According to my stalking of USPS tracking my REO Grand and RM2 will be here tomorrow. I've done some preparing but wanted to ask the REO experts for your advice.

I have Efest and Panasonic 18650 batteries already. Are these ok to use or do I need to get something else? Any battery information that is important to know?

Noalox - do I use it right away? And/or file right away (it seems like that is done when the REO needs cleaning?) And can you please verify for me exactly where the noalox goes?

Big one - 1st time rebuilding. I have 28 gauge kanthal, cotton & bamboo wicking, have watched many videos including Robs and plan to use my evic as an ohm meter. When I get the RM2 I will be watching a video and following along. What ohm range should I be shooting for to start off with? Are there flaws in my plan and I need to get something else like a multimeter or different gauge kanthal?

What should my first juice be? I'm thinking one of my all time favorites so I can recognize the differences? My choices would likely be GL Deadly Sin or Bryces Vanilla Pudding. Or should I go with a flavor that I like too but hasn't seemed strong enough for me in a clearomizer?

I hope you get a laugh from my simple and possibly over anxious questions. I'm super excited about using a REO and sure don't want to mess anything up right out of the gate!

Yours truly,
"I promise not to be a Reoville pest once I get the hang of things"

Would need to know exactly which batteries from these manufactures.

Should be noaloxed from the factory. After cleaning you apply it to the firing pin where it makes contact with the top of the battery. Others also apply a bit to the battery as well.

My evics would read any coil under 1.1 ohms as a short so shoot for a 1.2 ohm coil.

go with a juice you know well, that will make easier to fine tune the vape to top performance.

We love helping new Reo owners get the best results, ask away and post pics

no laughs!

these are questions most of us asked on our way to Reoville!

suggested batteries are the AW IMR 18650 1600mah

there should be Noalox on your Reo already- just apply a little more to the firing pin tip after a cleaning.

I was also new to rebuilding when my RM2s arrived- I used 30g Kanthal and after some trial and error, I like 1.4-1.5 ohm coils.

I had a feeling I would be selling my MVP, so I bought a separate ohms meter box thingy..

like F-B said, go with a juice you know! and be prepared to knock your nic down a little, and possibly dilute the flavor. the RM2 is awesome like that.

Congrats! Make sure you're home when the mail man comes. Signature confirmation is required.

I use AW IMRs exclusively. Using a flat-top battery can lead to problems with the firing pin.

Noalox - do I use it right away? And/or file right away (it seems like that is done when the REO needs cleaning?) And can you please verify for me exactly where the noalox goes?

You don't need to file the firing pin when new. Filing is only required if the tip of the pin gets oxidized due to arcing between the battery nipple and pin. Apply a dab of Noalox to the battery nipple each time you install a new battery and you'll rarely need to file.

Big one - 1st time rebuilding. I have 28 gauge kanthal, cotton & bamboo wicking, have watched many videos including Robs and plan to use my evic as an ohm meter. 28 gauge is probably the most widely used wire among us. For me, an 8-wrap micro coil around an 18 gauge needle (or something of a similar diameter) will result in a 1.1Ω(ish) coil. If you're going to be rebuilding, a multimeter or ohm meter are something you don't want to be without.

What should my first juice be? I'm thinking one of my all time favorites so I can recognize the differences? My choices would likely be GL Deadly Sin or Bryces Vanilla Pudding. Or should I go with a flavor that I like too but hasn't seemed strong enough for me in a clearomizer?

Like filthy beast said, I'd start off with a flavor you're familiar with.

I really shouldn't respond because you asked for 'experts' and I never want to be insulted like that ;)

Your new REOS Grand will have Noalox on the firing pin. Apply noalox to firing pin whenever you wash/ clean your mod. I use a toothpick to apply. I have never filed a firing pin in 9 mods, some for I've had over a year and a half. Don't be intimidated by RBA's. I was so uncertain I actually started a thread "RBA's for Dummies" on this sub forum. No one laughed, lotsa good advice. Now all my REOS have RM2's. wouldn't have it any other way. Of course use your favorite e-liquids. Vaping should be enjoyable, not punishment. Finally, some of the nicest people you will ever meet are here in REOVille. Example- last weekend a battery charger failed on me, and within 30 minutes three people offered to send me one to help get by until payday. REONauts are genuinely that nice to one another. There will be a slight learning curve, but there are scores of wonderful people here that are pleased to be of help.
Welcome to REOVille. I suspect you will be here awhile....

Like has been stated above exact numbers off your batteries would help to know exactly what you have. If they are not button tops you can have problems with the firing pin making good contact. The button top AW red 18650 1600 mah are the recommended battery for 2 reasons. They will make good contact with the firing pin and they provide better power for longer in the range of 4.2 down to 3.7 volts. You will want to change out the battery around 3.7 volts because the vape will noticeably drop off at that point. 1.1 to 1.3 ohms are a good place to start out.

Here is a very handy tool to assist in making easy perfect coils. Amazon.com: Artistic Wire Coiling Gizmo(R) Deluxe Winder for Jewelry Making: Arts, Crafts & Sewing You can also pick these up at Michael's or those types of stores.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions.

All the important stuff appears to be covered, I'm a Reo noob myself but have quite a bit of experience rebuilding so the biggest change for me was the squonkin' thing. Just goin' to add that Bryce's Vanilla Puddin' is purdy awesome at 1.2 ohms, it's what I have currently loaded ;)

Pick up a bottle of Noalox from Lowes it's in the electrical section. Apply it to the top of the battery and you'll never have to file. It will provide a air free place for the contact to be made and without air there will be no arcing or oxidation. I've been doing this for months with zero ill affects. I do it on every battery change yes it uses more Noalox but to me it's well worth it. Go with your favorite juice so you know what to expect and how it should taste. AW IMR 18650 1600 Mah are the best battery for the Reo. The Reo was made to use this battery and who knows better than the maker of the mod. 28 or 30 is the wire gauge most people use it's just a matter of what you like I picked up 32,30,28 from the site when I started and prefer 28. A multimeter and a ohm reader both will serve you very well. As far as questions you may have there are people here that what you to have your perfect vape as much or more than you do. We're all happy to help you find it so ask away.

Youse guys forgot: squonking 101

"Why isn't this working!?" Before you fill for the first time, check where the tube inside the bottle is sitting. If the tubing is on the long side and mashes right against the bottom of the bottle, the tubing will be "closed off" and you won't get liquids up there. You can try pulling the bottle & cap down a pinch, but chances are you gotta do what most of us gotta do: Snip a notch out of the bottom of the tube. That notch will make sure liquid will feed into the tubing, even if it's pressed right against the bottom of the bottle.

"I notched it. Why isn't this working!?"" Easy. The bottle needs to be screwed on tight enough to seal, but not so tight that you shove the black o-ring in the cap out of place. Some times you think you have it right, but it needs just the smallest amount more screwering to make a good seal to the o-ring.

It's easy. You can see all that - when it's working right and when it ain't - by checking your squonk with the door off. Liquid is gonna feed up that tubing or it ain't. It's just a couple little things you need to figure out about the feed system when you first work with it.

Thank you all very much!

I did look at my batteries - 1 is flat top. The other is an Efest button top 18650 but 2000mah. I do have AW IMR 18650 1600mah batteries and an ohm meter on the way, the REO is just going to beat them here. I was too impatient to wait on them!

Let me describe this scene - checked USPS tracking again, has left Atlanta & on it's way! Arranged to work from home to sign for it. Sitting in my recliner in front of the window with the clearest view to the door & driveway.

If all goes as planned at 5pm, 1 second you can find me following all of your tips! Thanks again!

Great advise. I'm waiting for the upgrade SO kit to be added before I make my purchase and hoping that flat-tops (like Sony VTC5's) will work with them. If not...then it'll be new button tops. Either way - the Reo is getting all new batt's for it's arrival.
