I've been a pack a day smoker for over 25 years, and after doing a bit of research on e-cigs, I've decided to bite the bullet and order one. But now comes the hard part... the choices! I know personal preference comes into play with it, but I'm really stumped on what to get. I want something with a strong hit, mainly because I've been smoking strong cigarettes and want as smooth of a transition as possible. I want something reliable with a PPC so that on days where I am out in the field all day I can make sure I have enough to last. I want to make sure I get enough supplies to last at least a month before I have to reorder attys, juice, or whatever else. I'd like to order from a supplier in the US if at all possible, mostly because of delivery time. Once I get my e-cig, I plan to not pick up a normal cig again.

Cost is a factor, and I really would like to get everything I need for around $125 or so. I may upgrade to a VP2 or something similar later, but for now my finances are a tad limited. I've been told that a manual is the way to go, but I'm willing to listen to other advice on the subject.

Like I said, I know it's all subjective, but I'd really appreciate some advice or personal observations in order to help make up my mind. I'm making the purchase this weekend.

Thanks in advance! :)

I would agree that the 510 gives the best hit for a small device and recommend it regularly. I also agree you need to buy juice and fill your own carts for better taste and less cost. And ONLY manual batteries for best performance.

But without a doubt, the best throat hit comes from more power which means either a 5 volt or 6 volt device. There are several that are very good. The two that are consistently well supported on the forum is the Prodigy and the GG. These are premiere, hard hitting, long battery life devices. 5-8 hours on a charge and although more expensive at first, the batteries only cost $2 so you save money in the long run.

The Big Nine in Long Battery Life Manual Switch PV’s:

Screwdriver: ecigscrewdriver.com

Prodigy: PureSmoker.com - Home of the USA Built PV !!!
GG: SmokeJuice - HOME
JantyStick: Janty USA - Janty USA

Super T: Super T, Innovative manufacturer of Personal Vaporizer products.

VP1/VP2: VaprLife

Honestly, the 510 is the rage right now. A couple of extra batteries, and a PCC. They give good hit, and vapor.

Juice is a must. Using factory filled carts will put you broke in no time. Also a couple of extra atomizers. You'll be set for a while.

I agree, not because of my opinion, but because of what he discribed. The 510 is the all the rage, but it's been around long enough the newness has worn off and we're still singing it's praises. You'll get a bigger bang for your buck ordering from China, but there are a lot of good dealers in the US.

Gosh, maybe try Smokesafe or rocky mountain vapor? Litecigusa? I still do most of my ordering through heaven gifts, but then I don't mind waiting a week for a shipment because of the prices. My first e-cig came from the good old USA, too, and it still seemd like forever! If you shop wisely, you can get a lot for your $125.

As a relative newbie myself, I went with the 510 and do not regret it one bit. It is extremely flexible and very easy to use. I have to agree with Jim....Juice Juice Juice!!! Although we are new to this and don't know what juices we will like, read everything that you can here regarding e-juice, then order some that you think you may like. If your 510 comes with some juice, you may like what comes with it and you are set. Chances are, you will want to try different things eventually though. I have to admit that I am now constantly looking for recommended juices to try.

I think you would be happy with a 510 starter kit. If you get it and don't like it, let me know and I may buy it from you.....I can never have too many batteries and attys now! :)

I started out a week ago with a blu and then came here and saw all of the posts saying that it's a POS. It's not that bad and it's a decent transition into e-smoking but I think I do want something with a little more "oomph" for smoking at home and socially so I ordered a 510. I don't know if we're allowed to endorse suppliers here so I apologize if I am out of bounds. I blindly chose "myvaporstore.com" out of the long list of suppliers in this forum. Got the 510 plus 3 bottles of e-liquid for under $70. I think that's pretty darn good!

As far as the Juice goes guys, this is only a suggestion. Try getting some unflavored juice. Stop at a baking supply store and pick up the Loranns flavors. You could mix a very small amount at a time to give you an idea of the flavors you would like to order in the future. I'm seeing so much unwanted juice being sold lately because people order bottles of it, then don't like it.

    Somewhere between here and there
I have been using a 510 for about 7-8 weeks now. The only complaint that I have for the most part is the battery life and small carts. The throat hit and vapor seem pretty good to me. I think that if I knew then what I know now that I would have bought a jantystick or prodigy. However, the 510 is a good and inexpensive unit to start with so you can see if you like vaping or not. I started with two kits, one from nhaler.com and one from ruyandirect.com. All parts seem to work the same. Also, totally wicked has some longer life batteries available for the 510. I haven't bought any yet but I have heard that they work good.

The mega batts do work. Like I said elsewhere - they seem like they last longer than the 2x regulars...

Only problem I see is they won't fit in the PPC.

I was really leaning toward the 510, after all of your glowing reviews, but I think I've decided on the Janty Stick. Longer lasting batteries, replacement rechargeable batteries are dirt cheap, built-in passthrough, and not too ungodly expensive. $150 should get all the extras I need for a while, then I can concentrate on trying out different juice.

I'm still going to be stocking up on atomizers every payday for a while until I have enough stockpiled in case of a ban. :)

Thank you all for your excellent opinions and assistance. I'm really beginning to like this place. :)

No, they're an inch longer. There's a 'trade off' there like anything else.

A good choice for someone starting out but it is usually out of the reality not to get something that looks somewhat like a cig. Highly recommend the JS for the exact reasons you state and I've said many times.

You get two batteries with the JS so no need for more of those now, you can always get them and you don't need to go to Janty for them. You might pick up an extra atty when ordering but get bulk attys elsewhere - ruyandirect.com for one. And get some Janty juice while you're there or at dietsmokes you could try out Parked juice - I like that Dulcis he sells. RY4 like but without the smoke. You should come in well under $150 unless you go crazy on the juice.

I'm still going to be stocking up on atomizers every payday for a while until I have enough stockpiled in case of a ban. :)

Me too. Again, go to ruyandir or ask Janty or dietsmokes what a bulk purchase would cost.

Your welcome and appreciate the comments. This place is simply the best source for information and misinformation on ecigs :) Your job is to figure out which is which.

I started with the 510 and still have it although I use other cigs as my main vape.
you cant go wrong with the 510 as a starter. Has good flavor output and pretty good throat hits.
Just get some extra batteries, a passthru and a couple of extra attys. try some good juices. Get some empty carts is important and fill your own with your favorite juice.
You can get poly batting at walmart and stuff your own carts or use the pyramid teabags from Liption. They work great too.
