I'm assuming everyone started out with some inexpensive ego type battery. When vaping at a fixed 3.7 wasn't enough the next move was to upgrade to a vv/vw device for a better hit, not to mention, they just look better. I see PV devices like the caravela, ihybrid or the chi-you and correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those fixed 3.7v? Everyone that has moved up to vaping at 4.5-5v or 8-10 watts, won't these devices be inadequate for your needs? I know about the kick, but that's just more money. What I'm getting at is - is the build quality, the rba and the looks (and these mods are beautiful) enough for these PVs to be so expensive and to sell out so quickly? I would love to get in line and purchase one of these mods but if the hit isn't punching me enough, then it would just sit in a drawer. Am I missing something here? I have to be....please shed some light on this please.

Thanx in advance,
K

Fixed voltage mods doesn't mean it regulates voltage at 3.7 but rather it will give out 4.2 volts when battery is full charged and drop as it drains. Lowest resistance I have seen on a carto is 1.5 ohms. You should get good results on a fixed voltage mod + 1.5 ohm carto but performance will not be up to par for me when battery voltage drops to 3.4 volts or lower. Build a 1.2 ohm coil on an RBA and you can still get a satisfying vape up to low of 3.2 volts.

Help you out? Sure! Which way did you come in?

Just kidding. The wire gauge and length (wraps) is the two main factors to the end resistance of your coil. Each wire has a set number of ohms per inch/mm etc and you can use that information to determine what length of the wire you need to achieve the resistance you wish to have. My preference is NiChrome 80 as I find it has a clean taste over the long run.

I just build my coils between 1.1-1.5 Ohms so the 3.7-4.2V my Reo puts out is sufficient. When I had a Provari, I ran 3.0 cartos and Vivi Novas and ran it at 4.8-5.0V. So since you just have to match the resistance on your atty, I didn't really find VV too useful other than to get a constant voltage, I just switch the 18650 batteries out every morning so it's fresh. The mechanical mods are appealing to me because they're simple, elegant and small and just matching the coil will work so I guess lesser the better.
