Okay first most likely a similar question has been asked before, so if need be someone please just link me to the right place.

I am very new to vaping and I am using a vision spinner with a Kanger aerotank. I understand how this works and obviously how to fill it ( since I am using it :p) But then I see these amazing brass pieces and clones that look to have different tanks. They just look so nice!! How do these work? I guess those are considered Mechanical mods? Can someone help me understand them?

There is endless amounts of mods. the mechanical mods are everywhere theres no end new ones come out on the daily they are mainly used for rba's/rda's or dripping where you wrap your own coils and so on and so forth. The options never end they have no regulated voltage only contineuos 3.7 volts on most unlike your spinner which can variate voltage and has a internal battery mechs have external batteries.

Mechanical mods can be great and look good, but you need to know about batteries and how to stay safe with them. Most people who use mech mods also use rebuildable attys on them and that has a skill set attached to it too.

One Stop Reference Shop is a great resource for learning all about it. I suggest you start with the battery info and work through the rest that applies to you.

Have fun and vape on :thumb:

What I always tell new vapers is to stick with what works for you. You don't need a fancy mod with a fancy atomizer to get stellar performance. You are likely getting pretty good performance out of your set up now. Plus, once you get into other mods, it's easy to get wrapped up into spending load of cash, but who said vaping was meant to be cheap? :). I've been vaping for 3 years and right now I use an itaste vv version 3.0 and an IGO-L RBA. For me it is getting the job done. I mainly got into rebuildable atomizers to cut back on buying cartomizers all of the time. Now I spend a few bucks on cotton balls, kanthal wire off of amazon, and I'm set for a good while. However, with that extra money, I just try more juice, so I guess it's a fair trade off :). Stick with what works for you. When you're ready to move up, there are plenty of people on here to help. Happy vaping! :)

Mechanical mods dont do continuous 3.7 they do whatever voltage your battery has left of its charge usualy starting at 4.2 volts and dropping from there until you decide its time to charge agian but thats just the begining of what you will want to know. My advice is just look around here at ecf and you will find more answers than you need and more opinions than you can ever try to sort out. Happy vaping

Here's a quick explanation of the basics.

Cigalikes ---------- We've all seen them. Use them like a normal cigarette, just don't try lighting them,
njoy.jpg

eGo ----------- The most popular form ecig. You know this well.
eGo_Battery_Options_Small.jpg

Variable Voltage/Variable Wattage mods ------------- These allow you to adjust power levels to better dial in flavor and vapor production and to hold larger toppers that require more power. These will come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and can power any topper that is not using near subohm coils.

Mechanical Mods ---------- These are non-adjustable but extremely powerful mods. They're basically giant batteries and you control the power with the resistance of the coils used. They can be use with everything from retail toppers to subohm dripping atomizers.

I know how great the advanced stuff looks, it can be quite tempting. BUT it does require some homework before you dive in. A lot, actually - you need to understand some basic electronics concepts and, as previously mentioned but worth repeating, battery safety. Using these devices without some education can be very dangerous.

Thank you everyone, This is a ton of info to digest. I think everything is a bit advanced for me, so I will stick with the basic set up I have now, and get another similar one as a back up. Then I can really dig deeper into all this over time. It so awesome everyone is so helpful here. Thank you very much!!

Congratulations Lukewarmpuppet, you've gotten outstanding advice and you are wise to wait. Whatever you decide to advance to, the setup you have now will become your backup and eventually your backup's backup. If you absorb the information given to you, and it shouldn't take long, you will make an informed decision on what to try next. Shiny new stuff is so tempting until it lands in the broken junk box.

Good idea--and congratulations!

Vision Spinner is nice battery and very practical. I still use mine when I'm out and about or when I try not be too conspicuous. ;) There are so many nice toys out there! Read, watch YouTube reviews (I always recommend PBusardo's YouTube videos--he's a great reviewer and a teacher).

The main thing is that you're not smoking!

Oh, and welcome to the rabbit hole. :D
