I read through the post in the health question section and everyone says that they have issues with their teeth only because they had bad teeth to begin with... I'm nearly 40 and have one cavity, been vaping for about 4 months now and my teeth are starting to ache. I've been to the dentist and he doesn't see any problems... I just don't know what to do. I've never had this problem with cigs before, but certainly don't want to go back!! I'm using the green smoke device and am considering switching to the T-rex device.... Any suggestions???

PS, to the ECF team, I've never heard of such ridiculous forum posting rules and restrictions! This post would have been much more appropriate in the health section, but I can't post or respond to the nearly 3 year old, 5 page discussion thread on tooth issues. The reason I'm here. :glare:

Any chance that you are subconsciously clenching your teeth? We may be satisfying our nic addiction, but there are other things in cigs that are also addictive, to a lesser degree. After four months, you've probably overcome any withdraw from them, but may have developed a habit without even realizing it during the withdraw phase.

I had a few bad canker sores in my mouth and sore teeth shortly after I quit smoking. I read that it is normal for those who quit smoking. It is your body cleansing itself of the chemicals we were inhaling in the cigarettes. I have been brushing my teeth three times a day, and using mouth wash each time. Try that. The mouth wash I used contained alcohol. It burned like hell for a few minutes, but after that I felt good. Try it out.

Agreed. I had similar short term issues too. My feeling is that by not smoking and coating the teeth with, well, all that crap that is in analogs the whitener in tooth paste actually does it job for the first time in a long time. The pores of the teeth are becoming clean making them temporarily more sensitive to the nerves.

(that's my story and I'm sticking to it) <g>

Whether that particular theory is right or wrong, my teeth are whiter than they were 2 years ago when I quit smoking and they don't hurt one bit...

Good luck.

:evil:I've only been vaping for four days now and I'm starting to have the same problem. I have had tooth problems on and off for awhile, but this is different. It's not like a normal toothe ache, it's more of a dull pain(at least so far) and I get a metallic taste in my mouth. I'm really hoping it goes away because I'm really enjoying my Vapor 4 Life e-cig, they have resonable prices, quality products and a HUGE selection of flavors. I've went from smoking 3/4 pack aday to 2-4 cigs a day and besides the tooth ache I'm feeling great. I've had a couple other minor side effects such as headaches, and dizziness/cloudy feeling, but I think that was just me getting use to it, because they seem to be going away.Lets hope for the best and good luck.

They have the posting rules there for a reason. It's really not long before you're out of here, and many olders members stop in to give advice.
Like me!! :)

You will experience all sorts of weird and odd little changes while your body gets use to it. Just keep drinking plenty of water and pay attention if it's really odd or scary. Other than that, most things pass in a week or two.

My money is also riding on the "holding your pv with your teeth" -- try not to dangle it and see if that helps.

And welcome to ecf. !

My teeth are great, always have been. If I develop problems with my teeth, I'm switching to something else.

Here's my tooth story, though. Before, when I smoked, my gums bled often. Sometimes when I brushed, ALWAYS if I flossed. And sometimes they would stay inflamed, and hurt all day, for a few days. I guess this happened for so long that I convinced myself that it was normal, due to my age, whatever. But it wasn't, it was due to smoking.

When I stopped smoking, and started vaping, my gums stopped bleeding. Ever. I can floss daily now, no blood.

BUT my gums hurt for the first week. (Gradually stopped bleeding after all this time, but it was painful.) My best theory is that the pain was really the feeling of healing after years of injury.

I have seen my dentist, and he said KEEP VAPING. :)

I apologize if this was already said. I didn't read through the other posts.

Smoking makes your gums recede. Stopping smoking lets the blood come back and they can start to heal. I don't think I would worry much if your dentist doesn't see any issues, but I'd think about getting another dentist that would be willing to impart a little more knowledge to you.

Reply to a couple more threads and to those who have posted here, and you'll have your post count in no time. The rule really does help to keep out the spammers and other ne'er-do-wells.

Nicotine is a skin irritant and can make your gums bleed

Trying to hold a heavy ecig in your teeth could certainly make your teeth ache

Dragging hard on a wide ecig could make your jaw hurt - bothered one woman's TMJ. I would sugegst you get manual batteries so your drag doesn't control the vapor but you bought a KR808D-2 ecig and I have never seen manual batteries for those

They are actually quite reasonable and common on most large forums that really care about keeping clean of spammers, trolls, and other non-productive members. Limiting initial access to one section for a period of time is not unreasonable, and you are only required to make 5 posts before you can post in almost every section of the forums.

Re Pg and VG - it's usually not the PG that causes problems. It's the fact that nicotine is a skin irritant and PG does little to buffer the irritation. That's why PG lets through more TH and more flavor too. VG dulls irritation, TH and flavor, and makes more visible and persistent vapor. Even 18mg nic in 100% PG would make my tongue sore and numb from the nicotine. No problem with 70pg/30vg

I'm with Brewzz on this,
only yeasterday i found myself clenching my teeth....quite hard. i only quit smokes and started vaping 1 week ago. So far, and i am a tough guy really, i've had a sore throat, headaches, and then yesterday the tooth ache.

The headache issue i've kinda solved by keeping a bottle of water near me when possible.

The sore throat issue i've kinda solved by not toking such big "hits". I've backed off just a little.

The teeth clenching issue i am now aware of so will try to be more relaxed when i notice im clenching.

For my part i'm pretty sure i'm clenching due to tobacco withdrawal. Whilst i am totally sold, mentally on the e cig, and am enjoying vaping and being smoke free. I think my body and sub-concious is having tense times.

I have been smoking for a long long time. Smoking is almost akin to self harming. I expected to just give up and everything be ok.
Well hello real world. I been abusing my system the whole time i been smoking. Now, it's over, my body and mind need a little time to adjust. I understand that now.

I wish i could apologise to all the parts of me that i've hurt over the years.

Another couple of weeks and everything is gonna be soooooo great.

Thank you Hon Lik.
