I have lurked for a bit but registered so I could ask for help. I would have posted this in the Colorado section but you can only post here until your first 5 posts.

I started vaping about a month ago. I completely switched from analogs to vaping 3 weeks ago yesterday. Yesterday morning I started to develop hives and they have gotten progressively worse. As of this morning they are very pronounced and in various parts of my body. I will be seeing my doctor in about 3 hours, but I am concerned it mightbe a delayed reaction to the PG in my e-liquid. If the doctor tells me to go back to analogs I'm going to tell him to take a hike, but I need to try to eliminate the PG as a possible cause.

Are there any vape shops in Colorado Springs or close by that sell 100% VG juice? I shop exclusively at J-Vapes because of the awesome service and great flavors they have but they mentioned some time ago that all of their flavors have PG and they have no purely VG liquids. I don't want to go back to analogs as I have come too far already, notice my health improving, and for the first time in 25 years, I have not had a cigarette and I'm ok and comfortable with that.

I welcome any other on topic advice for my situation. Thanks in advance.

HELP!!!

Thanks to all for the suggestions and help. I got to Mojo Vapes today an picked up some 100% VG juices. They are lower nicotene than I use, but in a pinch I'm not complaining. I also placed a fat order of supplies that will enable me to mix my own juice for long enough to confirm or eliminate the PG as the offending allergen. The doctor put me on a short run of steroids as well as benadryl and zertec. Hopefully the hives will clear up in the next few days.

It's likely due to the fact you quit smoking and not PG related at all.

I have seen this happen time and time again in the first 30 or so days of being smoke free. Hives, doctor visits, PG reduction... it could be PG but had it been you would likely had an allergic reaction after the first day or two. Your issue will clear up in a week or two from my experiences, welcome to a smoke free life.

That's what I think as well. I had several allergies as a child and every one of them caused an immediate reaction. This reaction showed up weeks after I switched to 100% vaping and stopped analogs altogether. To be on the safe side, I'll eliminate PG until it clears up but once it's gone, I plan to work PG back into the equation incrementally and see if it really is the cause or not.

Not to revive a month old thread, but I wanted to update the people who helped me and possibly help someone else experiencing my symptoms after the switch from analogs.

First, the help for those who experience hives after switching from analogs. As f1vefour mentioned it might be, it was a passing reaction. My doctor put me on Zirtec, Benadryl, and a 4 day run of steroids. My hives were significant and all over my body, hence the steroids. The doctor suggested I keep vaping the same juices because she doubted the PG was the cause of my hives. Her research found that PG allergies are exceedingly rare and while it could be the cause, she would rather rule out other things first. She also acknowledged that it is not as rare for people quitting smoking (altogether including nicotene) to have the hives reaction. Vaping is such a new phenomenon that she thoerized the hives might be from withdrawal from the other chemicals in cigarettes rather than just the nicotene. To be safe though I stayed on the medication and I stayed on 100% VG juice for about 2 weeks total. After that, I ramped back up to my preferred 50/50 mix and have had no problems with hives or other symptoms since.

Mojo Vapes came and if anyone needs 100% VG juice in a bind and in the Colorado Springs area, they had about half a dozen flavors in 100% VG when I visited. The staff was nice and the place was right downtown so you can grab lunch while you're there. That said, I did not care for the juice I got from Mojo. The nicotene level was under my usual but I also found the flavor weak. Full and fair disclosure though, I tend to prefer stronger flavors.

As for my foray into DIY...I'm screwed. I started with just some basic stuff and a small sample pack of LA flavors from Amazon. Less than a month later now and I have all but about 4 of LA's flavors in the dram size. I also have several FW flavors and a few other odds and ends. I got graduated cylinders, beakers, syringes, dropper bottles, funnels, etc., etc., etc.. I'm also rolling my own coils following the advice on this forum. I have about a 10-20% success rate with my flavors and have found 1 of the dozen or so that I have made which I consider an ADV.

Thanks again for the help when I needed it. Though I haven't posted a whole lot since joining, I am an almost daily lurker and I have gleaned so much useful knowledge from the forum.

NOW Products Pure VG. Either online or at a local Herb store. $6 for 16oz bottle. Totally Wicked on their Yo-Yo sale I got 38% off the Platinum Ice (72 mg, cut 1/5th to mix = 14.4 mg) and 40 flavours of Gold Standard. Sometimes I'll add about 2% Everclear to my mix. Vapes easier with lower power and cheaper factory atty's. Until I rebuild them that is. :)
