Hello everyone, I'll start by saying I'm not a 'forum' person as I seem to get overwhelmed. So please bare with me. I started out by searching so I didn't have to post lol. But I am so overwhelmed and I need help, apparently more help than I realized now that I've spent a week reading things online it started by helping me understand things my local vapor shop should have told me but didn't, then 'thinking' i knew what I needed, to the, 'then severely overwhelmed' and then, back to scratch stage. Been using a vapor for 2 months, own 2 inexpensive vapors and time for something better and need HELP. lotsa lotsa help with everything from my battery unit (can't decide) and understanding tanks, coils/wicks (was given the wrong coil/wick TWICE from local shop) which resulted in me buying a cheapo quick unit elsewhere or it was going to be back to a packaday. So how do I start asking for the help that I need?? :)

Welcome.

Just ask your questions. What is happening with your battery? What type of battery are you using (or at least what does it look like)? What do you like, don't like about it? What type of battery unit are you looking for/at?

What kind of tank are you using now? What kind of coils does it use? If you don't know, what does it look like (you can take a picture if you can't describe it)? What have been your problems?

Don't go back to the Cigs. These folks on here are really nice and happy to help. I also found B & M Vape stores to be much less than experts on their products. It was pretty disappointing to me. I have learned 3 times more in less than 24 hours here as I did in In two months of going to the vape store and I am a question asker.

I'm almost ashamed of the answers to all of your questions. I spent a few months wanting to switch to a vapor and took the plunge by buying an excel pro. I had to start somewhere and only knew that I did not like what my daughter was using but a friends bottom coil was what I decided I liked best. As for size NOBODY knows. After 3 weeks and knowing i needed a new coil/wick (they insist at my store, on calling it 'just a wick' *sigh...) and just handing me what they said 'fit' it. But with new coil/wick it just wouldn't produce vapor the way it was. My battery was draining FAST and I thought I needed a new one thinking i fried it by leaving it plugged in. (now found out not true :) I'm believing it to be the coil/wick (new one) which I didn't know at first about 1.8, 2.0 2.2 etc!! Was only being told what FIT! and them pulling out what 'looked' just like mine.

oops sorry, my battery is a 650, I'm considering something that lasts longer but if not, at least I obviously need another. One does not cut it obviously. But I need to know more before deciding on a new one. For instance name brand ? Tho it seems the battery is not as important (i'm always home) as deciding on a tank. It's all the talk of airflow that I'm never going to understand what I need. Coil size I've somewhat figured out is a matter of trying a few.

Hey Orchid,

First of all, welcome and congratulations for taking the plunge. I think most of us here started with the same questions and issues you are. I know I stated with a cheap cig-a-like style unit that quickly died and left me unsatisfied. There are a lot of options out there these days, so the best way to point you in the right direction would be to ask you some questions:

- What style of device are you most interested in? (Cylindrical tube or box style mod): This question is an important one and will most likely depend on where/when you use your device. For example, there may be some box mods that give you better battery life, but they may be more cumbersome to carry around if you are "on-the-go" all the time. Will this be something that you need to easily fit inside of a pocket or does a box style mod appeal more.

- Do you have the ability to carry extra batteries with you or are you more interested in a device that will last most/all of the day without changing the battery?

- You mentioned bottom coil tanks. I think that this is a wise choice as there are some really good options out there for these and they are simple to use. Are you still OK with this style of tank?

- Realizing that there are options for devices where you physically need to change the batteries, and others that can be plugged into a USB port on your PC or via an outlet, which is more appealing to you? Note that the USB option is more common on box style mods, however, there are cylindrical batteries that can be charged in the same manner such as ego and other "starter-kit" style batteries.

My first thought based on your issues is to recommend something that I know is proven and countless people have used and love, which is an MVP v2 device or the newer, smaller iLeaf iStick with either an Aspire Nautilus Mini (BVC coils), or a Kanger Aerotank. It's a fairly simple setup, top of the line bottom-coil style tanks, and a device (box-style) that has great battery life, good form-factor, and great for newer vapers. These devices will give you the power to run your coils, regardless of the resistance you choose. So 1.0/1.2/1.5/2.0 doesn't matter, you adjust your power to your liking and go.

This recommendation could be completely different after seeing the answers to some of the above questions, but these are pretty popular devices and great for those new to vaping but wanting more than a starter-style battery can offer.

I'm mostly home, not on the go much at all. But ego stick style is what I have and want another of. no box mod for me. I like my style tank and battery. I should add that my excel is not a bad battery at all actually, even tho it was a starter for me. I love my screen that shows me battery strength and puff count. Looking for something similar yet better quality probably? I will def. stick with a tank with coil/wick that just screws out and is easy to replace. Do not like my daughters system where she replaces the tank/coil/wick all in one. Also, def recharging is fine. I'll end up with choosing something a bit better for now and then later on maybe having a 3rd when I can afford it. :)

My coil/wick looks like the replacement for the kangerprotank and evod something or other :) I LOVED whatever came in my starter. Which nobody seems to be able to tell me what the ohm is. (I at first knew nothing about this part until recently! I'm stranded at home with my car in the shop and originally tried just 'ordering' coil/wick until i discovered the different numbers. I now understand what it means but not what i need. As for my battery, it is a 650 and I guess it turns out i have started vaping too much so it doesn't get me thru until bedtime. I started looking for a 2nd (probably better) online and got overwhelmed. This is how I endedup with a 2nd cheapy which is a complete starter pack til i decided what I'm wanting/needing. My daughter grabbed me a 650 battery (but seems to not keep a charger like my same size) and it came with 2 atomizers like she uses. I don't like them but needed something since nobody can figure out my coil wick replacement size. Wow, too much I think. Shld I just start posting separate questions?

So I think you need to get one thing figured out at a time. Is your most pressing problem a new battery unit or lack of vapor production? Post us a link or give us a name of the battery you have that you like.

And once you get this all figured out you can go back to the shop and school those folks

For starters I'd like to know how I would know what ohm coil I was using! When we are talking about 1.8 , 2.2, etc. Do they all look the same from the OUTside of course or is there an actual size difference visually looking at the entire piece? It's not something one can 'see' or tell looking on the website.

I think that the people who said the bottom coils are best. That's what I use. I have a Protank 2 and I like it. I have learned to use the web instead of the B&M. I like to give them business. However the cost is much higher and at the moment I am looking at the cost. Plus a good site will tell you exactly what coils you are buying. Then you don't get frustrated. I have a MVP2 which I didn't think I would like but I do. Since you are close to home the battery life isn't an issue. I also think that that the coils I use are easy to deal with. That's what I wanted. Anyway welcome to the forum it does get so much better.

I usually get 2.2 ohms. It seems to give me the best vape. The website should tell you what tank it goes on. That's the important part. You do have to experiment with them a bit to find your own sweet spot.

yes, I have read all about that the last week and have that much understood at least lol. I've now made sense of the 'visual' look and have my son with better eyesight looking for a number. He is saying he sees nothing! BUT the 'wrong' coil (bigger in size than mine) that my son brought home, we can see the number on that. (of no help of course :) So, now i'm asking if the type of coil matches the tank. Is that how it works? When choosing a new tank for instance, a specific type of coil will only work with that tank right? Keep in mind everything I knew before my online research was from my girls and turns out they know nothing LOL. my 2nd daughter (actually daughters bf) frequents the local 'better' vape store and even she thought you could use whatever 'bottom' coil type on any tank. again *sigh

So i'm thinking I had the strong or medium originally and when they sold me two new ones maybe lighter and that was why I felt they were not working (i actually thought it was my battery since the first 3 weeks i knew NOTHING :) But I do admit i used a lot of juice at first, I've rad that if using a 1.8 you use more juice because of how it burns correct?

sketchness, when you say the coil has to be the size to fit in device, when you say device, (slap my stupidity out of me plz) do you mean the tank or the metal parts that the coil screws into. Local shop insists I can take my tank and change the metal part that holds the coil to use a different one. See why i want to just start over from scratch? ;)

Could you take a picture of the tank you're using? It may help us to help you. On the coil you have with no markings is there a small wick at the bottom that is visible from both sides? The reason I ask is those are the only kind I have ran into thus far that do not have any ohm indications on them, and they are not that great.
