Don't you just hate it when some damned newb joins a forum and makes a new thread straight away? ;)

Anyway, hello! I'm Dan, I'm 30 and after 7 years of smoking cigarettes I switched to vaping last week. So far so good. It's been a hell of a transition, but I'm enjoying every step (and every puff)...

I started with cartridges on my Ego-C Twist battery, but today moved over to a Clearo to better judge how much juice I was getting through.

I found this Kanger at my local Vape shop:

Here are the replacement coils I got at the same time:

The shopkeeper recommended it due to the Titanium designed and encased wick. It pulls quite well.

Now, I need to know the model number so I can research and work out what voltage range will be safest with this model - can anybody recognise it from the picture? It didn't come boxed, so I really should have asked the guy in the shop at the time and they've gone home for today.

Also, as an aside; does anybody know if I'm liable to start burning the wick if I have the voltage on my battery turned up to the higher levels (circa 4.8v).

Thanks in advance.

Dan - S.W. England.

Thanks to all.

Lacking that, why not just ask the person who sold it to you?

I certainly will tomorrow, like I said, it's 5pm here and the shop is shut - thanks for the tip about the code; I can't see one anywhere on the unit.

Looks just like this, I forgot to point out - it says EVOD GLASS on the base of the piece.

Confusing thing is that the link says the unit is not 510 threaded - I thought my Ego Twist C was a 510 battery. Looks like my one came with a 510 conversion on the base.

Looking online, it does seem like an Emow, using the newer kanger dual coils.

Now, before you do research, just keep in mind, there is a variation on the ohms. There is no one answer for your question, since we don't know the ohms of the coils. As a general reference... start low, and work up until you get a nice vape. If the setting you are at is too high, and you start to get dry hits, then you try a different ohm coil, and repeat the process. If you continuously get dry hits no matter what coil/setting you're at, then you need to get a more powerful unit.

Those coils look like Kanger bottom fed coils.
Not entirely sure what you mean by "Titanium designed wick". There should not be any titanium wire in those coils (titanium wire needs a temperture control device to function properly) and the casing that holds the coil and wick is typically made from plated brass.

As far as Voltage goes, i would start at 3.6V and work my way up by taste. If you find that the vape isn't satisfying unless you turn up the volts to a level where you burn through coils quickly, it might be worth looking into devices that are a bit larger and capable of putting out more vapor.

Great advice, thanks - I forgot to add, the coils are rated at 1.5 Ohm. Seems from looking around that 3.8v is around the higher limit for these. I've started at 3.2, haven't had a dry hit yet but certainly a better throat hit around 3.8.

Yes, each has their own limit.. different ohms have their different limits... I think yours MIGHT be a clone, but to me, if it works, it works. Most of my atomizers are clones, but only half of my mods are clones. I do recommend getting authentic Kanger coils if you can, since it's the coils you're vaping from. With clones, you never know what kind of machine oils or quality of the wick you're getting.

You might be right, it's hard to tell as a novice. The sealed coil pack has KangerTech and the logo all over it, and I can't seem to get a properly focused shot but the clearo itself is lasermarked with KangerTech too.

Also, @Pushbutton is correct - the coils are bottom fed. I think it's a "Kanger EVOD Glass eGO Bottom Coil Clearomizer" as suggested above, or a rip off of one anyway.

Sorry for all these questions, can these wicks be cleaned in between juice/oil changes?

Wife and I both have that same tank! My tank has probably traveled 70k miles with me in the truck until that one day I filled it with elderberry ejuice and cracked one of the plastic windows. Wife still uses her's and really likes it.
Only thing I dont like about them is changing out atomizers just because of the wicks letting to much juice in, but now have a small box full of atomizers I can re-wick.
We have found 2.2 down to 1.8 atomizers, and I have been able to vape no higher than 14w on an istick 30 without getting an occasional dry hit, but it was satisfying for me.

Pretty darned good tank to start out with IMO, the istick 30's with these tanks were 50.00 each. We are both analog free now.
Playing with the new subtank mini now.

Thanks man, good to know it's a solid choice for a beginner. When you say the wick lets too much juice in, does that mean you spill it when you take the atomizer off?

Hi, Dan, and Welcome to ECF!

No worries about starting a new thread (particularly when it's a legitimate question!)

When someone says "the wick lets too much juice in" it means that the head has a tendency to flood - too much e-liquid gets into the wick and coil, and instead of a nice vape, you get this bubbling feeling, with very little vapor production. This has not been my experience with the evod-style heads (but I haven't used them in a long while).

And you have discovered the secret of "what voltage do I vape at" - which is really simple, start low and work it upwards until it tastes and feels good; if it gets too harsh, back it down.

It's certainly not a bad head, and a big step up from the cartridges!!!!!!!!

ETA: When you decide to open this up (like to add more juice) you MUST keep it upside down, otherwise the juice that's in there will all spill out! Been there, done that.

An atomizer lasts me about two weeks, I have never had one go out, they just eventually start flooding, so I would just put a new one on.
Have never had the tank leak other than that little incident with the elderberry.

Make sure your atomizer is tight when you refill your tank.

IMO this is a good tank to start out with, I actually started vaping in 2009, quit smoking for 3 yrs, relapsed and bought this setup this spring, quit again for good this time.
Eciggs didn’t used to be as reliable as they are now!

I am reasonably sure some of the atomizers I have purchased were knockoffs. I also view the fact that I haven’t fried any coils as a positive. Of coarse I have also had a few brand new duds that never fired.

EVOD2.jpeg There she is, not much of a pic, says Kanger tech EVOD2 at the base, and sits on a 510 adapter. on the istick30.
filled the windows with hot glue and duct taped it, now I just use it at my home PC.
I think you will enjoy this tank, I have been using 36g juice to start with and am thinking about cutting that in half since that nic level keeps me at a near headache state, lol. I don't miss analogs in the least though.

I found the hardest thing about quitting was the constant reminding myself to pickup that ecigg rather than think about analogs.
Just like when I tried chewing tobacco, I could be in full withdrawal before my brain would kick in and tell my body to grab a pinch of chew to make things better, "The cure is sitting there right in front of you dummy", lol.
The physical addiction was the hardest part to overcome, and this tank brings out the flavors real good and makes you actually not want to not set it down.
I would suggest getting yourself some cotton so you can re-wick some of the atomizers, its not a hard thing to do, and makes this hobby a little more economical. Best to you...
