Getting back into the game after years of being away from the forums

Been vaping a reo grand with cartomizers for the last 3 years. Has worked fine for me and i stayed away from forums. But recently got back into the forums again and wow have things changed. I made a new purchase and stuck with what i knew. I got a reo vv which at first i was disappointed in, then got the rba for it and its quite nice n highly recommended.

However, Im looking for another device. Reos have served me great n will probably always be my mainstay do to the durability and ability to grab it and go and have 6ml of juice at disposable but vaping them for last 3 years im simply just curious as to what else is out there.

Ok. This brings me to my questions- what the heck are tanks? Can someone just break it down simply for me. As far as i can tell an atomizer has like a tiny hole drilled in the bottom and this is put in the middle of the tank and the juice slowly seeps in the hole keeps the atomizer wet? Do you have to squeeze on the tank or it auto fills ? One thing im curious about is dripping tanks/atomizers there is something about a atomizer that gets fed from the top tastes just amazing to me- do these exist?

And grimmgreen godbless you for your enthusiasm, your contributions to the vaping community, and your knowledge but i cant get thru a video for the life of me. Is there someone who is knowledgeable who is neutral who does reviews that is shorter winded than the worldfamous grimmgreen? No hard feelings buddy

There's two types - Carto Tanks which are basically just juice-holders you slot an empty cartomizer into - the tank 'feeds' the carto with juice - some vapers prefer the taste of cartos so this is a great way to vape for longer for them.

Then there's tank attys such as the ProTank and the Vivi Nova (and most recently, the Aspire Nautilus) - these are a big tank 'o juice with an atomizer in there somewhere - BC=Bottom Coil, BDC=Bottom Dual Coil - these are handy because you just fill up the tank and vape although the kind of vape you'll get depends on the type of atty (ProTank=bottom coil=cool vape, Vivi Nova=mid/top coil= warm vape).

In both cases, the atty is kept fed by the wicking and the vacuum created drawing air through the tank - attys like the Nova (with the kind-of octopus wicks) need to be tilted when the juice depletes to stop you from getting dry hits.

CARTOMIZERS IN CARTOTANKS

Cartomizer Anatomy.jpg

Cross-section anatomy of a pre-punched cartomizer (click image to enlarge). Red arrows = juice flow. Blue arrows = air flow.

When using a cartotank, with each draw on the cartomizer, the negative pressure within the tank allows juice in the tank to enter into the carto to replenish the juice in the carto that has been consumed.

If you think Grimm is long winded, don't watch PBusardo! LOL. I love both those guys - Grimm for a good look at using the stuff, and Phil for the in-depth number crunching and data.

Another guy who's reviews are good is Rip Trippers. He does a lot of sub-ohm stuff, but he does great reviews on gear that are less "long winded" than Grimm or Phil.

The top dripping atty with a tank is the KayFun Light, or Russian, or the genesis style tanks, like the Kraken. That may be what you're looking for - you build the coil to your liking, and it's tank fed.

you may want to stay with what you got , other than spending alot of money chasing after a cloud can get very disappointing only to end up with what you have now , i have never tried a reo but i hear they are awesome myself ive done the tank carto which worked very well i cut slots in mine with a dremmel tool so i never had a problem with wicking but it will at times get a pressure equalization and you will need to burp the top cap (you will then see small bubbles come out of the slot in the carto) these work fine but newer things came out but most were not better , alot of them were too inconsistent vaped great for a while then crap likt the vivi nova , protank etc and buying or recoiling the heads is more time and expense , for me ive stayed with my provari until recently i got a DNA20 mod between the 2 i cant see needing anything else and ive been using 2 different genisis style attys ( AL-1 and AC9) which im very happy with it cost very little to no money to rebuild them after the inital cost of a roll of wire (100ft for $6 and ss mesh $10 for 12inx12in or use cotton balls) i have enough to rebuild them for 3yrs or more for $16 thats a heck of a deal so i tend to stay away from most of the fads

Glassomizers, like the Protank referenced by Aegis, have a removeable and replaceable atomizer head. Those heads can be rebuilt, although I don't think that was the original intention. They're not REALLY RBA's with tanks. They're of the clearomizer family. Short video: Protank Rebuild 28g Kanthal MicroCoil Cotton Wick - YouTube

Rebuildable atomizers with tanks are generally a bottom coil/vacuum setup like a Kayfun or Aqua or Taifun or Russian style atomizer - which are basically like a big Protank with a dripper style deck inside. The liquid goes in the tank and feeds the coil/wick through holes in the bottom portion of the tank. - Short video: How to build a Kayfun RBA // Vape Rev EDU - YouTube

OR

The Genesis style attomizer has a coil deck ABOVE the liquid tank, with a wick extended into the tank that feeds upward to the coil. A good example of this is the Smoktech RSST. - short video: RSST Rebuildable Atomizer Tutorial - YouTube

EDIT: there's also the carto tank. Which doesn't have a rebuildable atty.

Damn this carto tank stuff sounds crazy at first glance. Ive always been a juice feeder guy. I take an extra battery and go. I vape alot and dripping while tastes amazing is a pain in my .... While i absolute love the reos i always had a problem with the taste not being as good as i Liked. The rba i got for it a month a go is helping tremendously though. The combo is great and as one poster said yeah i can probably make myself crazy and spend tons of money to find that perfect vape but ya cant argue too much with a reo n a good rba.

My days of spending thousands a year on devices are over but i am enjoying the research and the "hunt" again even if i never do stray.

Thank you for the info on these tanks. Seems like a way to make a non juice feeder a juice feeder? I gonna re read everyones input again and thinks for heads up on a new reviewer to try. Nothing but luv for grimmgreen but i must have yelled at the computer a hundred times with him !

Thank you all for showing an old dog some new tricks N tips. I guess its kinda tough if you dont have one (tank, clearomizer) in front of you. Thank you all!

I was going to say Rip Trippers as well.

Just click on the actual whole post "frame"/"cell", whatever, in your Tapatalk app and it will pop up with a menu bar and allow you to click "like".

While I've tried RBAs, RDAs, RSSTs, Kayfuns, etc., I still find myself always coming back to my carto tanks. I'm severely jealous of Bad's IBTank collection. The other day I had to walk to the bank, and I had my SVD with an IBtanked with one of my favorite juices on me. Somehow, it slipped out of my coat pocket and went missing. The clerks were aware of it. I was circling outside the bank in sub-arctic weather (at least what felt like it, -32 after wind pressure) tapping my foot in the snow looking for it. Anyway, the bank literally called me 10 minutes later saying, and I quote, "I think someone found your electronic cigarette, sir. It looks... like a... thing... it's big...." I said yep, I'd be right over. I couldn't care less about the SVD. I was missin' my IBtank!!!!!!! Thank goodness someone found it and turned it in! I'm sure they had no clue what it was.

Oh. I got the like function down now. Thx for the info on tanks - it still seems all crazy to me. I might just stick with my juice feeders like the reo but when get some spare money n some boredom will definitely experiment with them.

I bought like 20 kits 5 years ago in my first two years of vaping. They were all crap ands in garbage now. My last device reo grande i purchased kept me in the game ever since. Reo with some cartos did me fine for years. Income went way down so left the forums cause i knew i wld be tempted to buy.... Anyways know that i really only have one device- at least every 3 days i misplace my mod and my heart stops anxiety goes thru the roof like nothing i ever experienced before in my life ! So can definitely relate to the bank story.

I would think that since you have loved cartos for so long, the next step for you would be to try a carto tank. Many say that the cartos last alot longer also because they tend to stay saturated with a tank. I personally never got into carto/tanks, although I've tried them. Many love them. I currently use and enjoy RDA's (rebuildable dripping atomizers). But since you don't seem like you have ventured yet into rebuilding coils, you should probably stick with a carto tank for now until you read up and watch some more youtubes on building coils, which is a whole other ballgame. It's loads of fun and provides some amazing vaping, but it does take some studying up on.
