No the best IS USP grade. But in order to be sure that your getting Glycerin, USP, the labeling MUST be specific:

If a product does not follow this labeling protocol, it cannot be considered to be USP grade. The actual name of the product(on the front of the bottle) must be in this format
{Name of product , USP}
or

Quote:
{name of product}
USP

So, for example, if a bottle of glycerin is pure by USP standards it must read:

Quote:
Glycerin, USP

or

Quote:
Glycerin
USP

Other items that should also be included on a proper USP standard drug listed for OTC sale are:

• Drug Facts (HEADING)
• Active Ingredient - Purpose
• Uses
• Warnings
• Directions
• Other Information
• Inactive Ingredients (if any)
• Contact Information
• Lot # and a REAL, Actual Expiration Date (not just x number of years from purchase).

and the "active ingredient" will say anhydrous Glycerin 99.5%.

Kosher is totally different:
Kosher(Kashrut) Law:
Kashrut(kosher) laws are Jewish religious dietary laws having to do with the preparation of food products and really have nothing to do with the labeled purity of the product. Also, Kashrut(kosher) laws are jurisdictional(handled differently in different places). In some cases a rabbi must come to the manufacturer and verify processes and equipment conform to kosher law and in some places it's enough that the manufacturer says or thinks he is conforming to the kosher laws. In any case USP and Kosher are 2 different things. There is no such listing in the USP for "Kosher Glycerin"

There is also no “Vegetable Glycerin” monograph in the USP....

So anything labeled as "vegetable Glycerine" is NOT truly USP grade.

This is why I'm all confused over this..

This one and others are claiming both USP and Kosher...

Glycerin, Vegetable (Kosher USP)

Ingredients/Technical Specs:

GLYCERINE VEGETABLE (Kosher, FCC, USP)
VEGETABLE Source
Ingredient Type - NATURAL SOURCE
Extraction Method - 99%
Material Safety Data Sheet

Glycerin, Vegetable (Kosher USP) - Bulk - Wholesale

I'm just wondering that if something is a vegetable glycerine, wouldn't it be safe.. The one I bought ended up being non-USP and non-Kosher.. So I'm not even sure if it is safe.. On another thread someone said it was probably safe, but I'm now questioning it...

The answer(as I've said to other people who've asked the same or similar questions) is, it may be, but without the proper FDA labeling on the bottle, there's no way to be sure. If you read my sticky again, you'll see the DSHEA(Dietary supplement Health and education act) allows "natural product" manufacturers to "self regulate". The only way to be absolutely sure would be to insist on getting a "certification of analysis" of the product from the manufacturer of the "vegetable glycerine" then check the specs against the USP specs to see if they comply. But, again, there would be no way to be sure the certification your getting from the manufacturer is legitimate.

Also I've actually already checked out this source for another person:

http://www.essentialwholesale.com/product_p/272.htm (the Glycerin, Vegetable (Kosher USP) - Bulk - Wholesale item)

Go to the website, and click on the contract manufacturing link on the left, scroll down that page to the section titled:
What about labels and the legal stuff?

In that paragraph you'll see the link for CFR 701 labeling requirements(click on it): You'll see that it is NOT Pharamceutical but Cosmetic grade labeling they are refering to. This , most likely is cosmetic grade. Also the FDA Labeling spec is :at least 99.5%: not 99%. I, personally would stay away from this product for inhalation use.

For consumers, If it's labeled as "Vegetable Glycerine" as the actual name of the product, it's not USP. There is NO monograph in the USP for Vegetable Glycerin only Glycerin. As a matter of fact, the USP just revised it recently to reflect a few changes. go here:

Glycerin Monograph

If your purchasing it wholesale(as I'm sure you are since your a supplier) the labeling requirements are different as I mentioned in my sticky. You would need to make sure the manufacturer is registered and licensed by the FDA and they are approved by FDA to produce pharmaceutical grade Glycerin, USP wholesale.

Ok So I need to buy only USP Glycerine... That's cool!! Thank You Sooo Much For Helping.. I was very confused because I saw on the forum the USP, Kosher, and Veggie all used, but it looked like they were all interchangable...

Still don't get how something that says "100%" wouldn't be ingestable since it's a veggie... But that's just me.. My Mind! I miss my mind!!!
