Now this is getting interesting. I was playing around and I now have a 1.8 Ohm coil that is working awesome with my Great Melonballs of Fire. It gives me the best flavor and vapor combination yet. Not too strong and not too weak with plenty of vapor. I do notice that it has tightened up the draw on the ProTank which is fine by me since I thought it was a bit on the airy side anyway.

What's odd is that it doesn't seem to matter how many wraps of 30g I do, it still comes out to somewhere between 1.5 Ohms and 2.0 Ohms. I tried anywhere from 6-10 wraps and it was still between 1.5-2.0 Ohms. I did try one with 4 wraps and it was right at 1 Ohm but I had a short when it fired and I never could get it to work.

It's also a much warmer vape than the stock coil which I really like.

What mod are you vaping with? It's possible you didn't have a short with the 1.0Ω coil; if you are using an APV like a VAMO or SVD I believe the resistance needs to be over 1.3Ω or so or the mod won't fire it.

Personally I've built coils for my IGO-L and recoiled Protank/EVOD heads at a bunch of different resistances, anywhere from 1.5 to 2.8Ω. When I end up in the 1.8-2.0Ω ballpark I get the best vape; lower than that and the vape is too hot and a little harsh, and above that I get very little throat hit. This is while using my VAMO V3 and my iTaste VV V3, I haven't gotten into mechanicals yet and don't really feel the need to go sub-ohm.

I think you are exactly right. I am using the eVic and after you said that it made sense. At first when I put it on there it read it as .8 Ohms. Then when I tried to fire it, it read 0 Ohms and then said "atomizer short". Then after the error went away it was reading 1.0 Ohm but every time I tried to fire it, it gave me the "atomizer short" error. So, I do think you are correct. I really don't need that low resistance but was just learning different techniques and how the wraps affect the performance etc.

I'm still not sure about the cotton. With the lighter flavors all I can taste is the cotton however the stronger flavors seem to cover it up. I might try with standard silica tomorrow. One of the reasons I wanted to rebuild it was because it seemed as though every other hit had a burnt taste. I could knock the wattage down but then I loose a lot of flavor.

A lot of what I am learning is what I like and what I don't like. I want to try new stuff but don't want to waste a bunch of money on stuff I don't like. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good tank system that is not a Genesis style. Just from what I have seen on Youtube, I'm not a big fan of the Genesis style. I would like to drip but I am always on the go and a tank system is far more convenient.

Concerning "tasting" the cotton - what type of cotton are you using? Are you boiling and drying before you use it?

I'm using the organic cotton balls from CVS. As far as boiling it, I think I need to do a face palm! Lol! The video I watched didn't mention it and I was so excited to try it that I didn't boil and dry it. I will try that and see if I notice any difference.

I got these cotton balls because there seemed to be many on here that liked these particular ones. Like I said, with the stronger flavors it is just fine, but for the lighter flavors there is a definite cotton taste. I am going to try boiling a few and see if that helps any for the lighter flavors. I have been using my T3S for those lighter flavors so I think I will rebuild it next. The ProTank is specifically for my plastic cracking juices such as the Great Melonballs of Fire.

I'll let you all know what happens.

I thought I would post an update on some experiments I did with the ProTank this evening as it may help someone else. I found that I like cotton yard better than the organic cotton ball. I also found that I was using way too much wick which was tightening up the draw and muting the flavor. There seems to be a fine line with the wick. Too much wick and you will get poor vapor production and muted flavors with a cotton taste. Too little wick and it will flood out and you will get juice in your mouth.

I rebuilt it again tonight with a 1.5 Ohm coil and the cotton yarn and this is the setup I prefer the most so far. Vaping Unicorn Blood by Fuzion Vapors is absolutely amazing. I just got this juice in today so it hasn't even steeped yet and is already amazing with this setup. Now I just can't wait to get my Sentinel M16 and Igo-L to see how much better the world of true RBA's really are. I have high hopes based on what I have been able to do with the ProTank so far.

It's hard to imagine it could get any better, but it just did. Now that I realized I was using way too much wick, I made a wick out of the cotton balls I boiled yesterday with just a tiny little bit and the flavor and vapor production are out of this world. The other thing I like about this build is that when I want to change flavors all I have to do is simply remove the wick and insert a new one in the same coil and I'm good to go. Anyone have any ideas on how long the actual coil might last? I am using 30g Kanthal with about 6 wraps. I am loving this build.

Yeah, when you get the build on a Protank 'just right', it works very well....almost as well as a RDA, IMO.

Your coil should last weeks, if not months. All you gotta do is swap out the wick when needed.

Personally, I don't use the Protank on a regular basis but my wife does. I rebuilt hers about 2 weeks ago and she's still on the same cotton wick....still tastes great to me.

Haven't tried the QTip yet. Thanks for the tip, will try the next time I make a wick.

I just made my first cotton wick ever with a Q-Tip on my IGO-L and it's really wicking fantastically. Great flavor as well.

Q-Tips probably aren't the most economical way to get your cotton for wicking, but they definitely work.

    No you can't
I wrap my wire around a 16ga Blunt Tip Luer-Lock Needle. remove the coil then burn it with a lighter then place it back on the needle then attach it to the base with the coil wrapped around the needle then I take a little cotton from Qtip or cotton swab run back and forth in my fingers to make it thin enough to go into the needle (turn the needle as you thread the cotton) then pull the needle through the wire coil and done. The cotton will get larger after you remove it from the needle.

Takes me about 2 or 3 min from start to end.

No need to change coils all the time I pull out old wick clean the coil and burn it again and rewick with new cotton every day.

Now my juice taste the same all day long.

How big do y'alls wicks end up being? I just got my kanthal wire yesterday and have been messing around with different # of wraps. But for the wick I've been using the Peaches & Cream yarn from Walmart. I just twist it up enough to fit through the coil, then flip one end back over to use as a "flavor" wick (really just to avoid flooding and leaking) but I'm wondering if the yarn might be too thick and if I should try thinning it out next time.
