Hello, I've been doing very well making my own juice. I've been reading recipes on various pages and kept seeing S Desert Ship; and it was recommended as a good tobacco flavor. I made some, speed steeped in crock; however, it is super, super sweet. I like a fairly sweet flavor, but this is too much. I can barely vape it. But I do not want to run out of juice...again. I am looking for a good non-sweet tobacco flavor to add to the juice to cut that sweetness. I did make a mistake when making it. When I cut myself to 3mg nic, all my juice flavors, except the fruit, went up to 8% from 6. It may seem like a high percentage, but I like it there. I've been using 555 Gold (INA), 7 Leaves (INA), and RY4 (INA) as my tobacco flavors with great success. When I got the desert ship (INA) I went ahead and made it 8% before trying it; so yes, made a mistake, but I think it would've been too sweet either way. Maybe it would be a good flavor as an enhancer to a nice non-sweet tobacco. I desperately need something to mix. The RY4 probably would've been ok, but I am out of it now, and would like to try something different (don't want vape tongue) the desert ship was going to replace it. I prefer INA or TFA/TPA, but at this point as long as it doesn't have those weird chemicals diecetyl and the other one...sorry can't remember off hand but if I saw it I'd say, yeah that's it! lol. Since you guys make juice I am sure you're aware of the weird chemicals.

My recipe at is
3mg nic
40 PG
60 VG
8% S-Desert Ship

I find my PG/VG just perfect for all other aspects and the juice is already made, need something to ADD to it to cut the sweet. Thank you for any assistance!!

***If I am reposting from elsewhere, my apologies, I did a search and did not find the advice I needed.***

Might try TFA Western start at 5 %.
mild taste, ideal mixer, Good tasting and non sweet.
Or
TFA Red Type Blend 5 %
similar to above but with a dash of light airy clean and crisp taste(s).

Should I do Red Type or Red Type II?
The Western is flammable... little nervous about that lol
Seems like a silly question but... and Thank you so very much!!!!

8% sounds quite strong to me. It seems like a lot of vapers prefer this at 3-4%. If you take your statement that you found your general flavor profile going from a 6% to 8% {or about a 33% increase}, maybe a 4-5.33% might have been a better fit for you.
However, before I would start adding other flavors, I would first try diluting a small portion of what you have already made.
Since you started with a 40/60 3mg/mL base (with 8% S' Desert Ship); mix a small amount of the same base without flavoring (so you are using PG, VG, and nic solution only). Then you can mix several combinations to see if any get the flavor more in line with what you expected. I would not experiment on the entire batch but only a small portion of it.
If you mix:
1 part unflavored mix to 2 parts flavored mix (1:2) you will end up with 6% flavoring.
(example: 1mL unflavored 40/60 3mg/mL + 2 mL 8% S' Desert Ship 40/60 3mg/mL = 3 mL 6% 40/60 3mg/mL)

1 part unflavored mix to 1 parts flavored mix (1:1) you will end up with 4% flavoring.
(example: 1mL unflavored 40/60 3mg/mL + 1 mL 8% S' Desert Ship 40/60 3mg/mL = 3 mL 4% 40/60 3mg/mL)

2 part unflavored mix to 1 parts flavored mix (2:1) you will end up with 2% flavoring.
(example: 2mL unflavored 40/60 3mg/mL + 1 mL 8% S' Desert Ship 40/60 3mg/mL = 3 mL 2% 40/60 3mg/mL)

I am guessing that either the 1:2, or even the 1:1 will make this much more likable for you. This method has two benefits: 1) it gets you something you can vape right away, and 2) you will know at what percentage you should start mixing at next time.

That's my :2c: . Hope it helps! :D

8%??? No. No. No.

Seriously, I have had Inawera flavors change completely when used at the correct percentages, in truth, some have even gotten stronger as the percentage went down. Do yourself a favor and start ALL Inawera tobaccos at about 2%. Yes, I know it sounds weak, but trust me - this is the golden range for most of them. Inawera recommends starting at 1%, and they are not kidding, it's very concentrated stuff.

I use Hangsen at 7% to 8%, so it's not just me saying mixes should be light. It's Inawera. Make up a couple of 10ml bottles and try at 2% and another at 3% and let them steep naturally for 3 weeks or a month. Then try them out. You may be very surprised.

Question for the OP: Why would your flavor percentages increase due to you cutting the nicotine content. The only thing you should need tp increase is the PG/CG volume and keep the flavor percentage the same to achieve a lower nicotine content. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you meant and that is why I am asking you to clarify it.

I'd take 3ml of that 8% Desert Ship and add 5ml of 3mg 40/60 unflavored base. Warm the bottle, shake it like mad then let it sit for at least 24 hrs.

If you're looking to try more Inawera tobacco flavors, I can recommend Am4a, Gold Ducat and Turkish Tobacco. I prefer these at 3.0 to 3.5%. They're vapable after about 4 hrs in an ultrasonic cleaner or crock pot and afterwards reach full flavor after a couple of weeks steeping in the cupboard.

Hangsen Highway is also quite good, not sweet, has a little nutty taste though not so much as a 555 type. Seems to steep a bit quicker than the Inawera flavors too.

I cant do sweet vapes at all. I find HS desert ship, highway and No5 not sweet at all at 6% also look into tobacco absolutes like INW Garuda and RTS TA to name a couple I use. I vape 60/40 and the 60vg is plenty sweet for me. I have tried a few other tobac flavors from various companies and they are either sickly sweet, chemical tasting or like licking a ashtray.

Sorry it took me so long... been on hiatus of many sorts; I appreciate all you typed but that might be getting way to complicated for me. I just gave up on the D-Ship honestly. When my Red Type is done steeping, depending on the taste, I may try a drop or two of DS but honestly, even to my stronger tobacco flavors, 1 drop of the mix is too sweet, just one drop in a 2ml tank. I might just chuck it. I'm sure everyone who's new to DIY has had to just chuck a flavor or 2. If anyone wants it, you pay for shipping, it's yours and what I have left of the concentrate. lol.
That was more like 2$ than cents. Thank you; I very much appreciate it!!! I'm still learning. I'm keeping it simple though. I'd like to not vape one day. I quit smoking after almost 30 yrs; I'd really like to not be dependent on anything. Still not quite there yet and I may just decide I enjoy it too much to end it. But I just make 1 flavor and mix the flavors into tank if I want to.
Thank you.

I started all my flavors at 1 and went up to 5% at 6mg nic. As soon as my nic went down to 3mg my flavors were dead; had to up them to 8; that's the tobacco flavors. Any fruit or cream flavors even higher. Maybe after years of smoking my taste buds are dead. Idk. Everyone is different. I appreciate the advice though. Very much!!

I do not know. Of course when I did the calculations, my PG/VG also went up as nic went down. My 1st batch of juice when the nic went down all tasted dead and muted until I upped the flavor percentage. It just tasted much better to me. Again, I cannot explain it. It is just how it worked for me. I hope that clarifies?

Thank you; I'll keep those flavors in mind if I can find a way to afford new batteries. If not, I may be forced to stop vaping, possibly too early for me.
Honestly, I have just given up on the DS; it's just far to sweet for me. I didn't read the ingredients well enough to see the sweetener added to the flavor. My fault completely. I am not a sweet vapor, never have been.
I will definitely check out those other tobacco flavors from Inawera. I love the 555 though; just ran out :(
I do crock steep, because I am always waiting until the last damn minute... always a procrastinator I am. lol.
Thank you very much for your advice. :)

Yeah; I am also not a sweet vaper. I prefer tobaccos, coffees, closest I've gotten to sweet was a companies stawberry cream for a while but when I tried to make it, too sweet or too chemical tasting. I am trying a cream key lime right now; the key lime helps immensely to cut the sweetness of the cream. I've also added a little butterscotch to certain tobaccos; but at this point I'm finding that too sweet as well. I think I am done with sweet all together; but we'll see. I mentioned in another reply, if I don't find a cheap mod with removable batts and charger asap, I'll be forced to end vaping...and hopefully not go back to analog tobacco.

So sorry everyone who replied that I was on hiatus. I wasn't feeling well and had some personal stuff going on. I truly, greatly appreciate your advice and help. I do not want you to think I don't due to my late replies. I also was not getting emails telling me anyone replied which I normally do. So, that didn't help matters any. Thank you again. Much appreciation.

I use hangsen Desert Ship. Not sweet to me.
Perhaps the heat of the crock pot did something to it. Never heat steeped mine...

Thank could be. Mine was Inawera; I don't know if that makes a difference. I've also noted that when I was using plastic bottles (which I did for the Desert Ship) rather than glass which is what I use now; there was a difference in flavor.

Plastic bottles and heat do not go together.
Also very hard to get flavors fully out of a plastic bottle.
Wash thoroughly. fill with alcohol. let sit for 1 day and dump out then let dry while open for a day or two.
Usually gets rid of all the odors in the plastic.
