Help, this is weird (batt vs atty)

Short version,
atty works fine, batt dies, new battery, atty doesn't work, have to keep trying and trying, sometimes have the button pushed while im screwing in the atty helps, eventually I always get it to work, thought it might be the batt, but works fine on other attys, ?????? bad atty maybe, but when it does work it works fine. Thanks in advance
