Help troubleshooting Vamo V5

I keep getting a "short" error with my Vamo V5. It happens with all my toppers, so I know it's not the topper. I tried gently prying up the contact to no avail. It does fire every 3rd or so try, then goes back to "short". I've tried multibple batteries w/ fresh charge, and cleaned the contact with alcohol and a q-tip.

Any ideas?

Well the short error means that somewhere the positive and negative are touching. From what you say I would think its inside, maybe a loose piece of wire touching its opposite number.
