I use Sony VTC4s in everything. It's an honest 30 amp cell, 2100mAh. Partly because I am a mech modder, and I want the best amp loading capacity I can lay my hands on; and also because I have been using them for years and have had excellent results. I do not have your mod, and can not quickly find a reference to the battery requirements in your SX Mini M, and I don't know what battery the manufacturer recommends. However, if it is an honest 60 watt mod, reference to the handy-dandy
Ohms Law Calculator tells me a single 18650 has to draw at least 14.28 amps to provide 60 watts at the full charge voltage of 4.2 volts, and more as the cell discharges and voltage drops. Allowing a 20% safety margin, I would not load a 20 amp cell more than 16 amps, so I would put at least a 20 amp battery in it. Even then, at 3.5 volts when it is partially discharged the draw will be 17 amps+, thinning down the margin more than I like. If you go to a 20 amp cell, there are better capacities (mAh) available than the VTC4. The Samsung 25R cell, for example, has 2500 mAh.
@Mooch is one of our resident battery experts-- he does bench tests on actual cells and
reports these on his blog-- and he recommends this cell for 20 amp applications. First, check the owner's manual of your mod and see if there is a minimum ampacity recommended. If so, problem solved and you have your amp recommendation. If not, if it just says "18650 high drain battery" or the like, then go 20 amp for best longevity between charges and 30 amp for the best possible safety. All that said, let me repeat:
I use Sony VTC4s in everything. I recommend everybody does, unless you
know your amp loading is going to stay below 16 amps or so
. A note about the Sonys: they are popular, offering high draw and an excellent price; so they are often counterfeited. Don't buy them on eBay. Buy from a trustworthy dealer. I can recommend Orbtronic.com; illum.com; or rtdvapor.com. RTD currently has these cells on sale, 4 for $29 and includes 2 safety battery storage boxes. Their regular price is 7.99 each and from Orb they're 7.55 in singles. Haven't looked at Illum lately. Another thing to think about is charging. The SX Mini has an on-board charger. However, quality 18650 cells are expensive enough to be worth treating well and dangerous to mishandle. Therefore I recommend a stand alone charger at least for at-home use. Were it my mod, I'd charge my batteries at home and carry a spare rather than use the on-board. Good brands of chargers are Xtar and Intellicore. I use the Xtar VC4 and heartily recommend it. It has an LCD screen that will give you a lot of information about your battery-- like the current voltage and exactly how many mAh it put in it when charging. This can be useful to know. Given you have a 1-battery mod, that may be overkill for you as the VC4 is a 4 bay charger. However, they make the VC2, which is the same thing except only two charging bays, and is a few dollars cheaper. If you are going to carry spares, or even just at home, it is generally a good idea to keep batteries in a non conductive case to prevent them from being shorted. A short is dangerous on these batteries (actually, any batteries.) You can buy these cases online, and RTD includes one when you buy batteries in pairs on many of their models.
