Hello!

First off, I know that as a newbie, I should not be buying one of these. However, I don't want to waste money by purchasing other types and then ending up buying a higher quality one in the end. I've already wasted enough with this 21st Century kit.

In saying all that, I am a bit confused and need some help.

I've been looking on AltSmoke, and found a Silver Bullet that seems to be very reasonably priced. You basically have to build your own kit, which is confusing for someone like me. There are numerous options for atomizers, drip tips, batteries, tank addons, etc. I'm not entirely sure where to start.

This is the link: AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Silver Bullet - Starter Kits

As you can see, there are many options. I would highly appreciate it if some of you veterans would please have a look and tell me how you would build a kit and why. The site mentions blowing out atomizers by improper use. Would one of you mind explaining how to properly use one, or point me to relevant info, please?

If I were you, I would just get the Silver Bullet and no starter kit.

Do you have any idea what type of juice delivery devices that you want to use on a Bullet? I know you are relatively new to vaping, but have you had any experience with cartomizers, clearomizers, tanks, dripping atomizers, etc.?

I made a picture dictionary of the more common delivery devices in post #3 in this link: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...4-proper-terminology-carto-tank-what-lol.html

I'm currently at work and will check back here later when I get home.

I have only had -limited- experience with the 21st century cigs. Their cartriges come pre-filled, using no tanks or anything.

The Vivi Nova tank looks to be decent because of the amount of liquid it holds. I am not sure about performance or the amount of liquid they waste, though. I've read people saying that tanks tend to waste liquid. That nearly makes me want to avoid them, except I don't know anything about dripping and don't think I'd want to mess with it at first. Perhaps, in the future I will. Can silver bullets be upgraded to use the dripping method?

Hello, mmudde, I'm back and can more easily answer your questions, and offer you some advice from my own experience. First off, the Silver Bullet is a great first mod. It was my first mod and has served me well. Good choice on your part.

Silver Bullet with a pyrex cartomizer tank. Vapeporn.

I recommended to just buy the Silver Bullet w/o a starters kit. You can do better getting the other stuff from different vendors, unless you work it out where you are saving money from additional shipping charges when buying from multiple vendors.

For batteries, I like buying from one of the leading battery vendors, RTD Vapor
You can rest assured that what they sell is genuine brand-name stuff, and not a fake or copycat brand, which I feel is important. Go to the batteries listing and find the AW Protected 18650 batteries; you will find mAh ratings from 2200 mAh to 3400 mAh. The mAh rating approximates how long a charged battery will last. 100 mAh = 1 hour.

So for example, a 2200 mAh battery will last approximately 22 hours. I recommend getting two batteries minimum. The mAh rating of the battery to choose is your choice, depending upon how much you wish to spend and how long you . want the battery to last. Genuine AW Batteries at RTD vapor

You will need a charger to recharge those batteries. I recommend getting one of the more reputable quality chargers from Xtar: Xtar MP1S

RTD has a nice selection of drip tips should you decide to get one or two at this time. Drip Tip drip tips

Now is the time to determine what juice delivery devices to put on your Silver Bullet. The choices available are many, and everyone has their personal favorite.

There are many people who enjoy dripping on an atty (atomizer). These people say they experience the best flavor from their juices from this method. However, to others it can be time consuming, messy, and inconvenient. I won't make a recommendation on this method because I don't care for it, and you expressed an interest to not go that direction immediately.

There are other devices as I linked to in the picture dictionary. Cartomizers (used alone), clearomizers, clearo-tanks (vivi nova), ce3's, etc.

After trying many different delivery devices, my favorite has become the cartomizer tank. This is cartomizer with holes punched in it which allows juice from a larger reservoir (called a tank) to enter for continuous feeding to the heating coils. A small learning curve is involved, but it is not rocket science. I will include a video that demonstrates how these work.

For the cartomizer tank, I recommend an inexpensive pyrex tank called the Triple V from Valley Vapes. See the first image above. This tank will hold 7ml of juice and looks great on the Silver Bullet. A steal for $22. Triple V Pyrex 7ml Premium Tank

For the cartomizers, I always recommend purchasing cartos with holes already in them for tanks for beginners. There is an additional learning curve with punching your own holes. To make your first experience with tanks easier, get the pre-punched cartos.

After personal experience with a few different brands, I recommend getting the following Ikenvape Platinum https://www.ikenvape.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MGAPlatP, however at this time they are out of stock.

Another quality carto that I recommend is the following Smoktek single coil Single Coil XL Tank Cartomizer for the SmokTank XL. I recommend getting the 2.0 ohm with two holes to start out with. A few of these used separately in the above tank should last you about a month if not longer.

For juices, I won't recommend particular flavors, as taste and preference is highly subjective. I do recommend that you initially purchase some sampler packs from a couple of different vendors. You don't want to spend $10-$20 per bottle on larger bottles of juice for a flavor you may not like. Once you find a flavor or two that you enjoy, you can purchase more in a larger size.

I don't recall how heavy of a smoker you were, or if you even mentioned that. I would order 12mg - 18mg nicotine strength at first. I believe that finding a couple of flavors that you enjoy vaping is as important as finding the right gear. I'll give you a couple of vendors that I buy from frequently that have a huge selection of flavors and offer sampler packs with small trial size bottles.

Virgin Vapors. Organically Flavored E-liquid | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

When testing out new flavors from sampler packs, you won't want to put them in your tank yet. I use small clearomizer/cartomizer hybrids called ce3's. These only hold about 1 - 2 ml of liquid, are easy to fill and clean, and are re-usable. Generally come in a pack of 5.

Pardon, I should have included all relevant information. I have been a rather heavy smoker for 23 years. I currently smoke around 1 1/2 to 2 pks per day, depending on whether I am working that day or not. I smoke menthol RYO cigs, and enjoy a strong menthol flavor. Of course, given a while vaping, I may want to try other flavors. Cig tobacco doesn't offer many options in the flavor department. But, I do know that I will probably always enjoy stronger flavors and nicotine levels (though, I might be able to lower this one as time passes).

Thank you to all those who posted suggestions. Baditude, just wow! Thank you so much for the thorough reply. It has been exceedingly helpful.

After I finally get up and running, I'll be looking into mixing my own liquids. That will probably be harder to figure out. I don't even know the difference between the vegetable and p whatever bases, if those are the bases? I do know that they are made differently, but I've no idea how taste and performance come into play.

I've seen some flavorless liquids. Does nicotine come in those? I assume that I could just add my own flavoring to them without having to bother mixing more than 2 liquids (the flavoring and flavorless liquid)? Honestly, I'm a little afraid to handle nicotine right now. After what I've read, it seems similar to acid.

Nothing wrong at all with starting out with a good mod. I did have some help getting started and thats what I started with SB with a tank and also purchased an atty. Week two a second bullet, phiniac tank and a kick I keep in one bullet all the time (I love that kick)

Vaping is a slippery slope but I am enjoying the slide all the help and most of all being off analogs after 42 years. Day 25 and I am not going back.

Silver Bullets rock and is not a bad choice for a first mod at all. I agree that you should at least pick up a couple of batteries while at AltSmoke. You get free shipping on $85 minimum order and a Silver Bullet is only $84.99 haha. Anyway, "Like" AltSmoke on Facebook and you get 10% off. Congrats and I hope you can post some pics when you get your SB. And Welcome to ECF!! :D
