Help with carto tanks

Hey all. I have been considering getting into carto tanks for a bit now and feel I am at the point where I want to take the plunge. I have used cleros basically since I started. Haven't smoked in a YEAR as of 2/14!!!

However I have heard people say that the tanks give a better flavor. If anyone would be so kind to tell me their experience I would greatly appreciate it. I use a protank right now because it is pyrex and I use a lot of citrus juices. So guess my questions are:

Better flavor?

What tank would you recommend for me? (pyrex)

Where is a good place to get cartos for a good price?

Are they really that much more of a hassle than my protank?

I have a joytech ego ce5 set.
I can taste any flavor really good and strong. puts out enogh vapor on 2 pulls to make a rat pass out.
err, dont ask. the units are easy to clean and replace parts. I use the stock batterys and coils that came with it.
950 mah batteries and 3 om coils. I think.
no too bad in price for a 4 tanks, 2 bat set with both chargers and zip leather case.
around 40.00 at caterpiller vapes.

I 100% recomend IBTanked

I use PT2 and IBTanked and like them both.

It took me a few days to get the carto's figured out so that they would wick properly with my juice but now I have no issues. There is some great advice on here from the experts and I am sure they will chime in before long.

It really is just the carto that provides the flavor. I have tried many tanks and my two favorites are Phiniac and Loki Lab. I use Boge pre-punched cartos and I do enjoy the flavor I get but if there's something better out there, let me know.

Hassle? Hmmm, the ProTank is just simple but you said you wanted to get into cartos and tanks. Just make sure you get a tank tool and a well constructed tank. There is nothing worse than a leaky tank!

I won't recommend one shop over another because the cheaper shop might be cutting their costs in ways they don't disclose.

I mainly used smoktech 3 hole cartos from smoktek.com..2ohm for mvp and vv3, 3 ohm for devices that go above 5volts.

IBtanked.. quality tanks at a reasonable price.

I found that IBTanked has the most bang for your buck. I've tried cheaper tanks from Boge, and the cartos slide around far too easily. I have another tank from Cirrus, which is nice, with orings that fit well and keep the carto nice and snug, but if I didn't get it on sale it's normally a $60 tank. IBTanked has a ton of customizable features, comes in Pyrex, the seals/orings are holding up great and I have nothing to complain about. I use Boge cartos that I get in bulk from surevape

You can taste it when it starts to go. They do tend to last longer then clearo coils in my experience. Around 30 ml of liquid, depending on how dark and thick your liquid is. I switched both for the taste, and because I spend a lot of time on my husbands coils. Rather then spend all that time on two peoples coils, it's easier to just be able to fill my tanks.

In my experience carto tanks taste way better than clearos. I don't like cartos plain, because as the juice is used up you can taste the filler. Not so when you put it in a tank, first hit is like the last.

You know it's time to change cartos when the draw becomes tight, it starts flooding for no reason, and/or the flavor is off. I get about 60ml through each carto, but my juices are clear.

Hole choice for your cartos is a big factor... Too few and you get burnt nastiness. Too many and you flood the carto. I'm using 20pg/80vg with 3 holes. With a watery 30/70 I can get away with 2 holes.

Get a refill tool like the Slap Yo Mama or the one IBTanked sells. It makes refilling and swapping cartos much easier and saves your o-rings.

I own 5 IBTanked setups. They are really high quality for what you pay. About $25 for a glass tank with metal endcaps. The tanks ship in what they call a Thingy. The Thingy can be used to prime your carto. Look for the thread Do You Fiddle Your Thingy. The first post describes how to use it. This thread is IBTanked's vendor thread and a great way to contact them with questions.

Priming your carto is the key to how it will perform in the tank. Baditude (look up his blogs they are a must read) is the carto tank guru around here, recommends one way of priming and doesn't like fiddling his Thingy, I love it. Try a few different methods and see which works for you.

My next order of carto's will be from here. That is, unless some one can point me to the same products for a better price.

I've found them to be dramatically less of a hassle. Use a carto until it's productivity diminishes, then replace it. Pretty easy. Other than that, o-rings may need to be replaced on the tank occasionally.

I've fiddled with Protanks. I liked the performance of the iClear30S more. But the tank was polycarbonate. Either way, they both required more upkeep and nursing along than carto's.

OK after doing some reading I'd like your opinion on if these would be a good jumping off point to see if I like them?

Or do you think I should just go and get myself one of those ibtanked versions and just spend the money. If the Smok DCT are decent, I'm just thinking they are a cheaper option to try. But if they are just pieces of junk, I don't want to base it on that. Thanks

I think you should just get a 22mm standard pyrex tank from ibtanked. Its not that pricy and its really a beautiful piece of tank. Also very easy to work with. To the left you can go to my blogs and I have some tutorials on how I prime or replace cartos. There is also baditudes blogs on here, which contain huge amounts of info. As far as what cartos to use the two top imo are ikenvape laser drilled LR standards, or Boge LR standard laser drilled cartos which I get from litecigusa. The boges are cheaper, and the difference between the two is very small, so that's typically what I roll with

Boge have nicer cheap tanks that work. Smoketech-maybe, maybe not. Altho IBT is popular now, there are great similar tanks out there. Some with some pretty wild designs.

I've had no problems with my Smok DCT carto tank(think mine are a smaller tank though a 3.5 mls-got at another vendor)-ymmv-reason why I bought before going ibtanked was because it was cheaper and they had pyrex-decided what did I have to lose and I liked the "locking bottom" thing...I didn't want to initially spend over $20 if I wasn't sure if I'd like a carto tank thing-I learned I do like them, and will eventually probably upgrade to ibtanked-but for a trial thing, what you have picked out should be fine. Good luck to you however you choose!
