Right now I'm really liking the japanese cotton pads, but before that I was just using plain cotton ball fluff. With cotton you want just enough to fill the inside of the coil, it will puff up when wet so you don't want it to choke. In a pinch, the cotton from the end of a q-tip works well.

One more quick question when you say just enough Cotten to fill inside the coil
Does that mean I don't want any Cotten hanging down to the deck of the base that is where I am having the most trouble and by the way thank you very much

Sorry, yes, you want it touching your deck, You're using a dripper right? It has to touch the deck to wick up the juice. I meant just enough width wise to fill the coil, if there's too much it will choke and juice won't reach your coil, too little and the vape will feel very light, you want just slight resistance as you pull the cotton through the coil.

As for the legs of the wick, I like mine just enough to rest on the deck, some people like to stuff their decks full of cotton, I feel like that's a waste since juice will get trapped in the cotton and never make it to the coil.

Oh and no problem :) we were all new once.

5/64 inch is what rip tripper always uses; that's close enough to 1/16 inch.

you can 'roll' it gently to help shape it to fit, but don't twist it or get it compressed and tight; if the cotton sticks and doesn't slide through, it's too much cotton.

There's a guy on youtube, Cloud 50 who has some interesting concepts on coiling and wicking Kayfuns, since I've been using his method my Kayfuns have been awesome.

I'm working on my first kayfun too; finally got one along with some 28 gauge kanthal a few days ago; used the stock coil for those days and today i put in a 3 ohm 28g vertical microcoil and some cotton; truth be told still feels like something's wrong with the flavor, like I didn't clean it twice good enough; maybe I need to let it soak in dish soap for a day or something.

I cut my finger too, got blood all over it trying to unscrew smooth metal; probably the airhole caused the cut.

Kayfun is a little different, I'd go a little larger than micro for inner diameter, 2mm is probably good, maybe even slightly larger. As for wick length on that, you want it long enough to touch the deck of the chimney base, but not so much that you're blocking the juice channels.
