So I have been mostly using silica wicking in my RDA but I have done cotton a few times recently. The first time it turned out perfect & produced a decent amount of flavor, TH & vapor. All the times I've done a cotton wicked coil since the first have been less than impressive.

I'm wrapping the coil with 30 gauge wire & the ohms of the coils I've done have been 1.4 & 1.6. They're tightly wrapped coils like a mocrocoil so there are no hot spots when I fire the coils up. I wrapped them on a 3/16 & 7/16 screwdrivers.

I have tried different amounts of cotton & each time the result is low vapor production, lots of flavor (almost too much) and a feeling like I've vaped way higher nicotine than what my juice is (like I've taken several hits in a row rather than just taking 1). Not really any TH either. Just a feeling like I've taken a ton of hits rather than just 1.

I've had the same experience no matter which juice I vape & all my juices are 24mg nic, 80/20.

Any suggestions on what I should do to fix my problem? Thanks in advance. :)

Yes, the coil is in it's normal spot relative to the air hole & when I have built coils with other wicks in the past it has worked as expected. I feel like I'm either using too much or too little cotton but I can't quite get it right. But it's weird because the very first coil I did with cotton was a higher ohm coil (like 2.6 maybe) and I used a ton of cotton & the vapor production & everything was surprisingly good. So I expected a little change since I'm using a much lower ohm coil, but the lack of vapor production means something & I'd like to figure out how to correct this.

Try raising the coil higher in relation to the air hole. Coil height affects the vape too. Closer to the deck usually gives you more flavor, but at the expense of TH. Raising the coil can increase the TH. Play around with it a little bit and see how it affects it.

[ETA:] In regards to the cotton, you may be using too much, which chokes off the wicking. You need a very, very thin piece of cotton - it should slide back and forth within the coil fairly easily. Cotton expands when you wet it with liquid and a big, fat, swollen wick will get choked off by the coil.

It's pretty high in relation to the air hole. I generally always like it to be higher than the air hole.

The first one I did last night was the 1.4 ohm one & that one I thought had too much cotton since the coil was super small & even the smallest amount of cotton was not very loose. So when I rewrapped it I used a bigger diameter coil & I'm sure the cotton isn't too big now. I just can't figure out what's going on with it.

The first 2-3 hits are super weak in vapor & high in flavor & seem to be much higher in nicotine, at least as far as how it affects me, & low in TH. Then 1-2 hits will be ok & then it's time to refill & it's the same thing over again.
