Hi, everyone....

Hard to believe this is my first post after obsessively lurking here for the past six months. A big thank you to all - I've learned so much and am proud to say that after being a heavy smoker for 38 years - I'm now almost six months analog-free.

Anyway.... I've been using Joye 510's quite successfully and employing Highping's dry burn method using a mega 510 battery. Last week I received my first eGo and am loving it with the low resistance atty. Because I use a lot of VG (20 - 35% in my 12 mg juice) I suspect one of my new L/R atty's is getting a little gummy and would like to do a dry burn. I'm afraid to risk my new favorite eGo batt - I seem to remember ScottyB posting something about how easily the eGo battery can be damaged if an atty shorts out on it. So, I was thinking maybe I could use the mega batt, just like I did with the non L/R attys. I know a higher voltage device would be effective but don't own one - what if I buy one and like it? Oh, no! More exercise for my already overworked CC's. Noooo....

Any tips, caveats, advice, etc?

I haven't done a dry burn yet on my new LR atomizers, so grain of salt and all that...

I would think that you have to be more careful doing a dry burn on LR atomizers.
You can pop them easier than regular 510 atomizers.

For instance, I can sit on the button of my 3.7v Chuck all day long doing a dry burn.
It never gets any hotter than a nice orange glow with my regular 510 atomizers.

But I would be hesitant to sit on the button like that with an LR atomizer.
It should, and probably will, get a lot hotter a lot quicker.
So you may have to do the pulsing thing.

As far as whether you are using mega batteries or what, I'm not sure how much that matters.
But just keep an eye on that coil and don't let it get any hotter than orange.

If it starts to get hotter than that, lay off the button and start doing pulses.

Thanks, DC2.

I see what you're saying - makes sense about being more careful and possibly using the pulsing method.

I guess I was just concerned about whether or not I should try the mega batt (which is not supposed to be used with a L/R atty at all) or if it was safe to attempt the burn with my beloved eGo....

You're probably better off using the Ego battery for a dry burn.

But check out this thread and do what you think is best...

Thanks again for the feedback, DC2. I did read the thread you referenced and kind of feel like you do about using my mega batt for the dry burn. It doesn't mean that much to me now that I prefer the eGo. I'd rather risk losing/shortening the mega batt's useful life than risk frying my eGo batt. As long as no one thinks there's a risk of explosion. Not down with that.... Oh, incidentally, what did you mean about 'pumping' the 510 batt with the L/R atty?

Pulsing the button instead of just sitting on it.

This is an excellent thread about using the Highping dry burn method...

It describes how to pulse the battery to make sure you don't pop the atomizer.

I tried a dry burn of an LR atty on my SB. Atty lasted 1.2 seconds:blink:. With that achievment under my belt, I figured I would try to 'fix' one of my standard 510 attys that had started to be 'meeh'. Popped it on my REO at 6V, figuring I could kind of 'shock' it into working. That atty lasted 1 sec.

With that kind of success rate, I decided to not continue in my endeavors. YMMV of course.

Did you follow the instructions for the Highping method in the post above?

Everclear is your best friend for cleaning attys. Dryburns put added strain on an atty, and I've found Everclear or high proof grain alcohol is actually more effective at cleaning a gunked up coil.

Everclear is 95% alcohol will dissolve the gunk off the coil whereas I've found a dry burn can still leave some "charred" residue behind.

If you can't get Everclear try something thats 150 proof.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but can you prove that with pictures?
If you can, you'll revolutionize atomizer cleaning.

Because many people have tested using alcohol to remove the baked on gunk.
And as far as I know it just doesn't work.

The only thing I ever heard of that worked even a little bit was icemaker cleaner.
And when I say heard of I mean people who posted pictures of their tests.

Yeah, alcohol will work fine for removing dried out juice that may be clogging up your atomizer.
But hot water will do just as good a job of that from what I can tell.
