Help with first attempt at DIY.

Hi folks.

Wanting to try my hand at DIY and looking for a question answered.

Been looking and seen that you can buy nicotine base liquids in PG and VG in varying strengths which would lessen the possible error of putting too much nic in my PG and VG.

I normally use 12mg liquids when I buy pre made so that's what I'm aiming for when I make my own. The only thing is I like a roughly 50/50 mix of PG/VG so 100% of either isn't much use to me.

So, was thinking, if I buy a 24mg PG and add that to an equal amount of VG to dilute, would that give me the 12mg total that I'm aiming for? That should work, right?

Yes, if you add--say--100 ml of 24 mg/ml PG liquid to 100 ml VG, you'll end up with 200 ml of 12 mg/ml liquid.

If you add flavoring to that, however, you'll lower the nicotine amount by some amount. It depends on how heavily you flavor, I tend to do so around 6% as I like lighter minty flavorings.

There's a boat-ton of online juice calculators that will figure everything out for you so you get exactly what you want (or as close as it can be made).

For flavoring, I have a personal preference for The Flavorer's Apprentice, and tend to purchase flavorings directly from them (they're cheaper, on average, than TFA flavorings purchased through a middle-man). Plenty of people are fans of LorAnn flavorings as well.

For my basic menthol, I purchase the crystals and make my own flavor concentrate. The cost is negligible compared to purchasing menthol flavoring from any company and the quality and flavor are identical. Menthol crystals dissolve easily (if a bit slowly) in PG.
