Hi,

This is my first post so first of all, Hello World.

Now to the point, i just got subtank mini and istick50, i got some questions regarding settings on istick

Some backgound info before questions:

i will be using both 1.2 ohm and 0.5 ohm OCC heads that comes pre-built (untill i am comfortable building my self)

the liquid i will use are blueberry from LiQuid

  • 10/12mg/ml - 50(PG) / 50(VG) - medium throat hit / excellent vapour.
  • 6mg/ml - 45(PG) / 55(VG) - mild throat hit / excellent vapour.

1) what should i change on istick watts or volts?
2) what would be starting volt or watts should i set for 1.2 and 0.5 ohm?

Thank you in advance :)

I can't argue with what Kangertits suggested. Start low (either watts or volts) and gradually work up the power until you get a burnt taste, then back down to a comfortable place.

I'm most comfortable with voltage regulation myself. A simple formula we often used was the Ohm's Plus Two formula:

Take the resistance (Ohm's) and add the number "2"; the sum will be an ideal place to set your voltage. For example, a 0.5 ohm coil you'd add the number two ... 0.5 + 2 = 2.5 volts.

It really doesn't matter which mode you use (watts or voltage), as making adjustments with one inversely affects the other.

From experience with my subtank mini, I would have to say with 50/50 vg/pg juices, my sweet spot for the 1.2 ohm coil head was around 24.5-27.5w. my sweet spot with the .5 ohm coil head was around 20-22.5w (depending on how "powerful" you wanted the puff). Just a word to the wise, ALWAYS prime the coil head with juice before firing (after installing a new head). Hope this helped!

Thank you all for your helpfull suggestions.

I have started as Das Auto suggested with minimum (12W on 1.2ohm). another thing when i press the firing button it makes noise like firework cracker it it normal? i did prime the coil head with juice before starting.

Anyway it seems 6mg/ml is slightly strong for me so might have to go for nicotine free :)

Welcome Nil!

Yes, the crackling is pretty normal. That just means that the juice is vaporizing :)

On the Subtanks and some other toppers, folks do prefer lower-nic as the concentration is greater. I see that some people still sub-ohm on 12-24mg/ml, but they're quite used to it....

You can either get the same flavor in 0mg/mL and mix the two (50-50 would get you 3mg/mL) or you could go to a pharmacy and get some Vegetable Glycerin (which is a component of the juice anyway) and mix the unflavored to dilute the nicotine level. Realize with unflavored, you're diluting not only the nicotine, but also the flavor of the liquid.

Best Wishes!

Good to know that crackling is pretty normal.
I am not regular smoker (stopped about 8 years ago) I just smoke when on holiday or after few drinks, so i might take your suggestion and get nic free in same flavour and mix two.

That popping sound will occur if the power is set too low. When I was using the Subtank Mini, I would get that if the iStick was set to 9 watts. Once I upped the wattage (I was using 15) the popping disappeared and was replaced by that nice slow sizzling sound.

I am currently running at 12W as when I tried with 15W it felt that vapour was bit hot (temp wise) for my liking.

Thank you for this overwhelming support and suggestions.

The coils have engraved on them what resistance they are and what range of Watts you should use. Go by that, starting at the lowest and working your way up.

The wattage suggestion you are talking about are not suggestions but what wattage that ohm will be running at on a mech mod, depending on how charged the cell is.
