Did my first successful wick on the rba last night. Have a few questions :

1. Is it normal to have a loud pop immediately when I press the fire button?

2. The RBA heats up much faster than the OCC coils is it alright?

3. I feel that I get more flavor from the stock coils because I fire them at 20-25. What can I do to improve the flavor with the RBA? Am I having too little wick?

4. Many people fire the coil before adding liquid to find for dry spots? How can you tell if you're coil isn't even etc and how to rectify this issue.

Hoping to hear from you vets appreciate it!

Another relative newbie here, so I don't know how much help I'll be, but here goes:

1. I did get some popping at first. Increasing the watts eliminated that.

2. I haven't noticed that. Did you build your coil or use the one that came with? The prebuilts are .5 ohm, so I'm guessing they would heat up quicker than the OCC 1.5 ohm coil.

3. Again, are you using the prebuilt? That one should measure out at .5, you can increase the watts if you want. If you built your own and it is higher resistance, what is it?

4. Disclaimer: I have only built ONE coil so far, but I have watched tons of youtube vids. I fired it several times before I wicked it and made sure that it burned from the inside out, and quickly. I looked for even heating, rather than one spot turning red before the rest of the coil.

Does that help at all? I was disappointed with the OCC coils leaking so gave the RBA a try. I'm two weeks in, 1.5 with the prebuilt coil and a few days on my own build, and I'm completely satisfied with it, as well as thrilled with how much cheaper building my own coils is!

@BreilaRose thank you so much for your input. With regards to coil building, it's simply try n error or is there a specific guide.

E.g. If I got a 28g kanthal wire how many rounds must I go to get. 5ohms

I'd suggest at the least getting some 26 awg to build the .5 ohm coils, you'll get more wraps. I'm using 24 awg to get 6 wraps on 2.5mm diameter to get to .5 ohms.

EDIT : 5 wraps on a 2.5 mm of 28 awg will get you 1.0 ohm, and a cooler vape. Bookmark the steam engine :http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp?r=1&awg=28&id=2.5
