Help with my 510... Doing something wrong?

Hey everybody! Been lurking for quite a while, but just signed up.

Hoping I can find some help here. I MUST be doing something wrong...

Anyways, I've been vaping for about 3 weeks now and immediately quit analogs. Wasn't really satisfied with cartridges, so I've just been dripping. The thing is, I usually drip 3 drops into my standard Joye 510 attys and I only get about 4 decent drags off of it. After that if I'll get this huge cloud of nasty SMOKE (not vapor). Everything I've read people say they get about 8-12 drags off of 3 drops... Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've removed the wicking from my attys and I've tried several different brands of (menthol) e-juice from Halo, a local blend, and currently (meh) Bauway menthol. I've done a lot of searching for the problem, but found nothing. Not only does it taste nasty and burn my throat, but I feel like I'm going through my juice faster than I should too...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice!

When I drip I usually do 2 drops to start, then 1 as needed. If you put in too much you flood the atty. Then you need to take it off and blow it out.

I don't like dripping. I only do it to test liquids. I like Boge cartomizers. 510 can use standard resistance Boge cartos (not the LR ones). I don't like SLB or random ones because I cannot stand the SLB style inside (fat wad of stuffing with and inner seal you have to pull out to add juice - ugh). The BOge ones are nice soft-caps with a defined center air channel.

And 3 weeks - have you cleaned your atty? I would swap attys weekly, prime the new one and clean the used one when I was using attys all the time.

Thanks.

I'll try dripping less, but could that be what's causing the burning? Like I said, after a few puffs my minty vapor turns to a thicker, nasty, throat burning smoke. That's my main concern.

*I've tried soaking with alcohol and still same results. After that is when I decided to remove the wicking. I also make sure to let the atty cool off before I hit it again. I've done a lot of reading and searching, but still no solution. I've also purchased additional attys and had the same results. I do take long drags (6-7 secs), but would think that's about normal...

Your drags seem quite long and it sounds like your atty is drying out. The norm is 3 drops but maybe you should try 4? Shorter drags may not suit what you want but if you use a LR atty with shorter drags it should give you the same as long drags with a standard atty? Everyone is different and trial and error makes perfect.

4 good drags on 3 drops isn't that uncommon. I drip 3 drops avg at a time and may get a little more than that but it's close. Everybody's vaping style is different no two will be the same totally. Type of juice, mix, length of a drag, ohm and type of atty, voltage and more goes into the equation. Don't worry about the number of vapes, when you notice the flavor start to drop of, DRIP to avoid that burnt taste which once gets set in an atty can be hard to remove.

I have tried dripping and never had more than 4 puffs of good taste doing it. I did some mods that transformed my bridgeless attys into something between a plain dripping and a normal atomizer. I did similar mods with Joye 510 Cartomizers also. Someday I will post my mods.

When I get bad taste, I tried alchool, boiling and nothing works better than pure water in a Water Pik. Just clean it like I do with my teeth and then burn it to dry.
Tastes just like new again.

I notice a big difference in how many hits I get when I use heavier VG juices. It is thicker and I get a good 10 hits per 2 drops. Not to mention twice the vapor too:)

Ditto that silkakc. 3 drops and tooten at least 10 big hits with great vapor. To me the throat hit is real good although i would suspect that the TH i like is far less then most would like. my mixes are typically 75/25 vg/pg. The flavoring seems to make a diff in the viscosity. Some thin the mix more then others. Took about a week to figure the taste diff when more drops are needed. Maybe not a burnt or metal taste but residue from previous flavors that have gloomed onto the coil.
