I have had my REO for about 2 months now and I love it! Recently, it has been leaving an odd "char" mark on the top terminal of my batteries (button and flat top). this "char mark will not wipe off even with rubbing alcohol. In order to gett it off I have to use a nail file (carefully) to try and get the char spots off. These spots also make for a bad connection and I find that I am constantly turning the battery to try and avoid them.

A) has anyone else experienced this
B) what could be causing it
C) how do I correct the issue

Welp, it's being caused by arcing, and the problem seems to get worse the lower resistance you run. What resistance builds are you running?

Have you applied anything to the positive contact on the Reo - either the Noalox Rob includes or Deoxit? That will improve conductivity and help to minimize arcing. Isopropyl won't help, but giving the battery contact a polishing with some Noalox applied to a rough cloth should help remove the spots created by the arcing. (And also improve the conductivity on the battery contact.)

I havent but I will now. What would you think could be causing it to arc?

This can happen in any mechanical when you suddenly make contact and pull high amps across a temporary connection point. In non techno-speak the current wants to travel the path of least resistance, and when the direct contact point isn't that place the path of the current jumps - spark - and a new path is made, leaving behind a 'burn' mark from the spark. It's a known issue with Reos - or any mod for that matter - it's just with a Reo you can see it happen if you fire the Reo with the door removed. The goal is to minimize the potential for it happening, thus the application of Noalox or Deoxit to the positive contact on the Reo and giving the battery positive a coating of it as well.
