Ok. Let me explain. I had the top off doing a vapor test. Basically a wet burn. It was only about 3 seconds long and it caught fire. It was a small flame like a cigarette lighter. Im running a clapton coil 32/26 ga 5 wraps .35 ohms. Battery is the efest 35/20A. So i should be running about 50w and 12A. Should be well within range. The atty was not hot when i started the wet burn test. I blew out the flame and tried it again but it flamed right back up. I dont see any charring on the cotton. Any ideas? Will upload some pics soon.

Here are my 2 cents:

Your wick was probably not wet enough therefore, you did not have enough juice to cool down your coils. Your coil went over the ignition point of the liquid so it caught fire.

I'm pretty sure that if you blow on your coils while "wet burning" (as you say), it would not catch fire.

Can't wait to see the results of Farsalinos temperature study....

So, what is a wet burn test and why are you doing one? Without air flow in the atty the temperature of the coil(s) will go way up and juice can and will ignite.

When I remove the wick and a dry burn the coil of my RTA sometimes excess gunk around the posts will catch fire. It's just a little flame while it burns the stuff up. I think it's fun.

Happens to a lot of my gunky RDAs as well. I walk around in the dark with it in my hand firing it, pretending it's a torch and I'm Indiana Jones exploring a cave with monsters (aka my cats.) Pretend time is fun :D

Only other men really understand that.

Roxy is rolling her eyes (and laughing). To be fair, men probably have more fun.

A "wet burn" would be when you take the top cap off juice up and fire the device to see how much vapor is coming directly off the coil. A small performance test.

Ahh, got it. I do that when I re-wick or make new coils. I only do it for a second though and that's not long enough to dry out the wicks. If I would get ignition when doing this I would assume I had a hot spot on a coil, find it and fix it. I have not had this happen to me since I stopped using SS mesh :)

VG and PG are both - chemically speaking - alcohols. They burn like alcohol because they are indeed alcohol. Your coils were hot and there was plenty of oxygen. Poof. Fire. --- No big deal. Don't sweat it. But do take it as a lesson about your device, your juice, and what could be possible when careless.

I've caught my RM3 on fire a couple of times since I started using readyXwick. I just dry burn and then rinse the whole thing afterwards. I've dry burned too long when the wicks are still fairly saturated and it lights like a zippo. - Again, no big deal. Blow out the fire - wait for it too cool - remove and rinse in water. Dry off, reinstall on mod, dry burn again to get rid of any remaining water... Good to go.
