I've been trying to build a Ni coil for my Subtank Mini rba. I used 30 ga wire with about 6-7 loops. The coil measures at .17 ohms. I used this setup on my Evic VT, but I cannot get it to fire unless I set the temperature to 500 degrees or more. The resulting vape is way too hot for me. I was considering getting some 32 ga. Ni wire and try to build a coil at .2-.25 ohms to mimic the coil on the EgoOne tank that came with the mod.

Am I on the right track or can you suggest anything else?

I don't know the specifics of the VT, but that doesn't sound right. Why would you have to fire it above 500 degrees for it to fire at all? It should be good all the way down to 0.05 ohms, so you are well within the range. I build with 30 gauge nickel and it works fine on my IPV4 which has lower limit of only 0.12, so it takes more wraps to make things work.
