dont know if this is the right place for this since its not a mod of a pv lol i have a 510 type auto cig that had a cigarette pack like charger/holder for carts and battery. it was not consistently charging my 510, so I busted it open and removed the usb plug and wiring as well as the connector to the battery for charging. i had some njoy xpress rn4081 usb chargers lying around, so i cut off the batt connector end and wired it up to the same colors on the 510 type setup. When i connect the battery, i get no charging. I dont understand why. Can anyone help? Does the usb plug contain some kind of circuitry to charge the battery? (it was destroyed stupidly by me lol) The rn4081 charger has some kind of circuitry board in the connector end, but it also has a led light that tells about charge readiness. The 510 did not. The led in the battery is what tells whether its charging or not. Thanks for your help!

I am not familiar with the rn4081 but you should never use a charger designed for a different battery. This could lead to catastrophic failure of the battery you are trying to charge. It may be possible to use this charger with that battery but without knowing the specifications of the charger it is a very dangerous thing to attempt.

i didnt use the rn4081 charger for charing the 510. It has a little circuit on the end that regulates the voltage down to 4.2v. The 510 wiring did not have any kind of circuit board that i could find; it just had a usb connection that was wired to the battery connection. So i took off the battery connection and wired it to the 4081 after cutting off the circuit board. basically just wired it to the other wires. but it still doesnt work. WillyB, you said polarity. How would I check the polarity of the wires? Could there have been some kind of circuitry in the usb plug? It looked just like a regular usb connection. Again I think the cutoff is wired in the battery b/c it would flash when first charging and then turn off when complete. Also is there a way to check voltage? I have a multimeter but i have no idea how i would check voltage on this. THanks again for your help!

i just used a ohm meter to read the two paired together. looking at the top of the usb connector (with the usb picture on it above the connector) when i read the ohms from the right "hole" (connected to the red wire) i get no resistance to the first splice, and to the battery connector. I also get no resistance from the battery connector to either splice. However when I connect from the black splice to the usb hole on the left, infinite resistance. Could there be a short in this part of the wire? Thanks again for your help. Sorry about the non-technical description of this lol

Could you take a pic of the pieces laid out together and how you are trying to connect them just to clarify what you are doing. I am assuming from your last post that you are trying to repair the PCC case.

From your description I am assuming that the PCC has a multi cell battery pack and the charge circuit is inside the battery pack. But, without seeing what you are attempting it is hard to figure.

If the charge circuit is in the battery pack then that could be where your issue is and may not be fixable without ripping the battery pack apart.

Edit: I am just making assumptions based on limited knowledge of the equipment you are working with.

yes jimbalny, it is 4.2v, but 100mah I am thinking I might try to make a PT with that part, altho I dont know if 100mah would be enough to power anything? does anyone know? I am a know nothing when it comes to electrical stuff! lol

Haha ya man same here and im an ELECTRICIAN, just dont remember all the dc stuff I learned in tech school. All I know is voltage (force) adds up in series, stays same in parallel - amperage (amount) I forget the series parallel circuit rules. Makes me wish I stuck with community college I was majoring electrical engineering just had too many damn non credit remedial courses.
