I have used 510 passthoughs for a while now and just recently ran into an issue with using my usb wall adapter. I ordered 5 passthoughs that I was told were 5v. I cant get any of them to work with my USB wall adapters but they work fine running out of the USB port on my computer.
The weird thing is that I have tried 3 different adapters all rated 5v, (2.1A, 400-500 mA, and a 1A), the only one I can even get to minimally draw smoke from is the 2.1A. If these are the amp ratings then I assume I need a higher amp rating, right?....but then if a USB computer port only puts out 500mA then how is it the only thing that can power my passthrough.
Unfortunately there is no information on the passthrough itself except the info I got when I ordered them through a website out of china. Please help me find the right adapter:blink:

A Mac has one USB port that puts out more (1000mA ?) to charge iPad.

What atomizer or cartomizer you have on the PT determine how many mA it draws.

We won't know why it works. Maybe your PC has incorrect USB and has a pool of power for all of the USB ports and is letting one port have more than 500mA. Maybe your PT is currently willing to work partially with 500mA. Maybe your PT will fry your PC's USB subsystem.

You should be using a 2 amp (2000mA) USB to AC adapter. They are made. Buy one. (wait - that 5v 2.1A one should work)

tj is correct, I don't think it is advisable to hook a high current device to a computer USB port.
especially a direct wired (without an internal battery).
The price of a computer is more than a pass thru.

For your USB wall adapters rated less than 2 amps, there is just not enough power available.

For the 2.1 amp one it may be a switching type and shut down when the load exceeds 2.1 amps. Measure volts, fine, try and vape, shut down. The switching regulator is working properly. Even when you try to overload it :)

If you get vapor from your computer USB port, it is not shutting down when you overload it. Maybe that is not a GOOD THING. The voltage probably 'sags' but the power doesn't shut off.

Thank you all for answering back, I really appreciate it (as i'm about to pull my hair out)...the clearomizer and fluxomizers i'm currently using are .-3.2 Ohms and 2.8-3 Ohms and I'm not sure about the ohms on my cartos and the passthroughs are hollow and DON'T have batterys attached to them. I'm not sure how Ohms convert to what Amp I'm supposed to have not to mention having to throw the voltage in toboot.

thanks for the advice, I definately wont try to test them on my computer anymore because I definately dont want to blow that. I guess i'll try to find higher ampage converters. I'm not sure if a USB hub will help though because I dont use my computer to power them and i'm assuming I have to hook up a hub through my computer right?

wow with all this Ohm Amp and voltage talk I wonder if i've been using the wrong cartos, chargers and converters on my Ego too.

ClubSoda nailed it. The lower the number the hotter the vape. Low resistance technology simulates HV vaping at lower voltage but puts a lot of stress on the battery. Totally worth it imo. YMMV

Low Resistance:
1.25 - 1.8 ohm very warm cigarette-like vape good for tobaccos and non sweets
2.0 - 2.8 ohm warm vape nice for fruits and sweets

If all the info is confusing, perhaps when you go to a suppliers site- that you buy for your PV. A good supplier will have all the dodads for your eGo listed together.

Try to use a supplier that separates everything, and lets you know- per item- what works with what.

Right now, it looks like you need that Mad Vapes adapter for your powerful passthrough. Your clearos and fluxos will be fine on your 5voltPT, but may be too cool on your eGo.

The OHMS for you cartos may be printed on each carto or the box- anything 2.0 or under or LR maybe too hot for your 5vpt- will be fine on your eGo.

Wow, who would have known it would be near impossible to find a 5v 2+amp ac powered adapter or usb hub. All the ones i've found have the usb ports with below 2amps or the price is outrageous. I wish the one I already have worked considering its rated at 2.1 amps but i'm assuming the sticker on the backs of some of these units are exagerated.
Does anyone know of a brand or model number that they actually use that has been able to put out the 2amps?
