Not a new member but still new to some things. Made a newbie mistake today. The coil quit firing on my gs h5. Didn't have a backup with me. I had a spare aspire bvc in my case from my old k1 I broke. I ripped it apart took the wire out and built a coil for my gs h5. Wicked it with cotton from a q tip. It fires and hits amazing, but has a weird taste. The center of the coil is sitting a little low. Could it be too low and burning the rubber grommet? Or is it just the difference between cotton and silica? Or something else? I don't know what the resistance is cause I had no access to an ohm meter.

Depends on the flavor of the taste. Could be the cotton could be melting the rubber.

It doesn't have a burnt rubber smell to it. The taste is hard to describe. Not so much burnt just different than with the stock coil

Also seems to be giving me a burning in my throat.

The cotton on the qtip is not organic. It would be the same disgusting taste as using cotton from a cotton ball on an rda.
Re wick with some silica or organic cotton and see the difference

Will have to do when I get home. Stuck at work and had to use what was at my disposal. Call it a vape emergency I guess. On a side note this is the first coil I have ever built and it was successful. So not all bad I guess

Also, will it hurt me to use it like it is with the nasty taste? Don't wanna go get analogs cause I been off of them for over 2 months

Safe? who really knows.. IF something hurt my throat I wouldn't use. Since a pack of smokes cost the same as a disposable at the gas station why not grab a disposable?

Where I live a pack of smokes is 4 and a disposable is 8

I used to keep some white clouds around for those type of emergencies. I can go 8 hours now without a vape. Although around 4 I start getting jittery.

I'm still kinda new to vaping only been doing it for like 2 and a half months. So more than a couple hours is rough for me at this point. I'm still using 24 and 16 nic liquids

So I took everyone's advice and quit using the one I built. Dug around my desk and found an old ce4 that still works. Thank you everyone.

Could I steal the wicks out of a ce4 in an emergency?

Yes. You could. Really you can use almost anything as a wick. Just make sure you roll one (coil) that will suit your battery and enough wicking material so the liquid can wick.

Some people can taste the cotton others can't.

Yep, that is more than likely what it is.......... Q-tip cotton is yucky....... I have gotten some pretty awful tastes from vapor that was produced off of certain types of cotton. Get yourself some organic cotton.
