Hemp fiber is my wick of choice. Out wicks cotton, last longer and is more heat tolerant. Has it been treated and boiled? Degummed Hemp fiber is what I have been using.

Very similar to cotton but can pack it more densely. Takes a bit longer to fully saturate and expand, can have a slightly nutty taste till totally broke in and seasoned.

be sure to check out the http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/atomizer-mods/378875-just-hemp.html thread. Break in time depend on how thoroughly the hemp was cleaned and treated before usage. Untreated it could take a tank or two to fully come in its own and diminish the nutty flavor. I used the uber clean method outlined in the just hemp thread, and break in time is quick. After about 20 minutes of soak time it's usually well saturated. Depends on your build, watts vaped at and usage. It's damn fine from the get go, and just gets better once all is seasoned.
