Be careful when buying hemp wick. I have come across lots that have a waxy feeling to the twine and that ain't goin into my vape. I bought some hemp fiber loooong time ago from a ECF coop and been using it ever since. It outlasts cotton in my builds and has great wicking capabilities. When I was using cotton for a short time I would be lucky to get 3 days before the cotton began to loose performance and have to rewick but with hemp fiber I can go up to a week. I am super happy with my hemp fiber. I build some drippers but use protanks as my all day atty.
The only thing with hemp is the woodzy breakin taste you sometimes get but under magnification and pair of tweezers I remove all the off colored shards I assume are plant stock bits and some of the fluff balls. My builds have little to no breakin taste.
This is a suggested link I kept from someone else's post a while back. I haven't bought from this site but will when the time comes to replenish my hemp supply.

Sorry I couldn't help more with a place to buy the fiber but the coop was a one time thing that changed my vape experience for the better.

Well I know hemp is used for a LOT of things, I remember this time Ken Kesey came on the Dave Letterman show (ages ago) and just started talking about hemp. For wicking purposes there's the unwaxed twine which is kind of like an already made wick once you snip to size and coil up, and then there's the fiber that would likely be fish hooked through the coil like you would with cotton. I'll be trying soon. This place has all the Hemp I'd probably ever need- half a pound of hemp fiber for 8 bucks- that's a lotta wicks! My first taste of hemp wick (twine) was last night. Now, relative to the commonly used silica wicks which I think is the most flavor neutral, I'd say that as far as contributing its own element to the vape both cotton (I use the organic japanese in the box I learned about here, and I also tried something similar from whole foods) and hemp do add more than silica- at least with a tank, which is what I use. Hemp twine adds a bit of throat hit or harshness- however you want to perceive it and what I'd call an "earthy" undertone. I thought cotton also adds some harshness and a flavor that is slightly like your smoking a T shirt. it's mild, but it is definitely there, even the japanese stuff, just less of it. Right now I'm leaning towards hemp for a variety of reasons- I don't know it just seems like the right wick alternative. One of my favorite cereals is granola with hemp. I'm not going to say I'll wont use silica too sometimes- just feeling my way here. Anyway for those seeking hemp:

I've heard around here that it is recommended to give your hemp a few rounds of boiling in distilled water and any number of other obsessive procedures you might wish to include in your wick prep. I do two boils at five minutes. A full dry and a 3rd boil and dry, and I change the water on all 3 boils. As far as wicking videos there's lots of them on youtube just search "rewick" or "hemp".

Unwaxed hemp is a great wick. As stated above during break in most times there is a woodsey taste to it, but when it does break in there is still a woodsey off taste with clearer and fruitier liquids. It really shine on tobacco, sweets, and desert flavors, especially custardy and tobacco flavors, which either compliment with the woodsey flavor or eventually drown it out entirely.

I used hemp for about a month, IMO it's better than cotton but inferior to Rayon in every way. With Hemp even after boiling it and drying I would still have to break in the wick, meaning it took a good hour or so before this "earthy" taste went away, after that it was really a very good wick, never dry burned like cotton but it was a PITA to work with IMO. I got my hemp here - BOUNTIFUL - Spinning and Weaving Hemp - 4 oz - 7.20

Like I said, Hemp was good but Rayon destroys it. Rayon is cheaper, easier to work with, wicks better, tastes better, doesn't require a break in and is much more widely available locally. Rayon > Hemp > Cotton > Silica.
