Hi I'm just wondering if anybody besides myself have tried a herbal/tobacco vaporizer. I am really surprised by the lack of information/discussion on the subject. From what I have been told our marijuana vapeing friends have been using them for more than 10 years. In my personal experience herbal vaporizers are in many respects better than e-cigs.

I have one, got it recently so i don't have much vaping experience with it. I have mainly been using my stationary V-Tower Extreme.
However it is very promising so far, I like the warm vapor it produces.

The only issue I had with it were the plastic threaded mouthpieces - the threaded part breaks easily - I broke 2 the first day I tried it. The manufactrer knows about this and has began producing metal threaded ones, again I have them but have not tested them yet.

The butane in the unit lasts for about 45-60 minutes constant vaping, definitely less than 2 hours suggested. I guess i'll have to keep a bottle of butane in the car. Its also a good idea to use highly filtered butane as cheap butane apparently clogs the unit over time. Look for "5 times filtered" or "near zero impurities" labels. The unit also takes about 2 minutes to stop heating after switching it off.

The price is definitely an issue, $259+tax CAD is the cheapest I found. but you will be saving money on tobacco as it uses about half/third a cigs worth at a time.

It heats up in about a minute.

I don't know if you have tobacco vaping experience, but tobacco selection will in large part determine your tobacco vaping experience. Most commercial tobacco has a lot of ammonia/additives. All tobacco has ammonia in it unless it has been cured a long time(pipe tobacco/cigar tobacco). To get rid of it and or pipe tobacco flavoring expel some vapor from the first few draws. Vaping tobacco selection and use would probably warrant its own thread.

Oh and you can also drip e-liquid into the chamber, careful as it produces a massive initial hit - draw a bit at a time. Dripping into the chamber also means no atomizer replacement like in an e-cig.

i was interested in the iolite, etc. but the price isn't good enough, its not very convenient & a bit noisy...might try later...there's also the cheaper 'vapor genie' pipe, though its not electric, its a vaporizing pipe, u use a lighter & it has a ceramic heat filter to keep it at vaporizing temperatures...i was gonna try it sometime, but preferred to spend the $ on more juice, etc. instead hehe...

Yeah..the price is definitely an issue for me for something I didn't get to try personally but the idea of perfectly warmed vapor is pretty appealing.

Good call on buying juice instead, The Vapor Genie is a POS.

Hey everyone!

I can say that I`ve been vaporizing herb fow a year now and like e-cigs, am not going back to combustion. My first vaporizer was of the conduction variety (heating cup like a frying pan with glass globe) and can say that , yes they work, but for the price of the globe style vaporizers...you can buy a convection/box type herbal vape for $60, and are WAY WAY better, if you are looking to try a vaporizer, I STRONGLY recommend that you do not buy those globe stye vaporizers (noble vapor vp 100 for example. They do work, but produce alot of resin and are not true vaporizers.

My second and current vaporizer as of 1 year, is the vapor daddy deluxe ($150-$200) and am VERY VERY satisfied !!!!! Yoou will come accross some bad reviews online about the "vapor daddy" (first generation) but no negative hype on the Deluxe daddy (second generation), I know many people who have the first genaton vapor daddy, and it ROCKS, dont believe everything you read. Of course the Volcano is better, but its also $700 and sounds like a hairdryer, so no thanks.

I also have the vapor genie pipe, and use it all the time when away from home, once you learn the technique, its a very efficient and flavorful vaping experience.

Now E-cigs produce a very clean smooth vapor, but a herbal vape will taste a bit different, but still odorless for the most part.

Hope this helps.

Neon.

Vaporizers need not be expensive. You can get a good stationary unit for starting at $150, something like US made Vapor Daddy. I have the V-Tower Extreme which was $275, its an excellent unit made in Canada. However you can get a regular V-Tower for $175, the difference is the Extreme can also inflate bags(very useful), and has a remote control(semi-useful). There are a few units priced higher that $300, but from peoples opinions I have read, they are not worth the high price. I'm talking about people who have owned them, and thereafter have switched to something less expensive and more functional like the Extreme.

As far as portable vaporizers, the Iolite has little or no competition at this time, whatever similar products that are available are far inferior. This explains therefore the high price.

I have not tried the vaporizing pipes, they are definitely inexpensive.

Never tried the "tube" heat type like vapor daddy myself, but I know I don't care for the volcano nor the mystifire by voodoo simply because of the bags (I hate inhaling from bags !).

So, since receiving the Iolite I believe the concept to be a much better choice and more comfortable (non invasive and more visibly acceptable) to use.

I've tried loose leaf tobacco and don't care for the taste, but I think it may be due to the additives traditional tobacco has in it. I'm tempted to try some sheesha (when I find a decent source that offers small samplers to see what I like or not), but need to read up more on "wet" type use with the Iolite due to the molasses.

My search is on for dried herbs, and apparently, I have lots and lots of reading to do in regards to their effects and medicinal values before just vaping away on them.

What an intriguing new past time !!

Greg

i have discovered googling the phrase "legal" and "herb" yielded interesting results. try it for yourself, and see. but stick to canadian sites.

Ixor, I just got a V-tower (not the bells and whistles extreme, but the one without the bag) and I'm wondering if you have some tips on how to use tobacco in it. The only organic tobacco I can find in Winnipeg is dried Mother Earth tobacco, which is traditional ceremonial tobacco. It is completely dry so that it will last without preservatives. I found that the V-tower didn't do much to that so I'm assuming it is too dry (much drier than Drum or something like that). I've found some recipes online for homemade shisha (tobacco, molasses/honey, VG) but they aren't too specific about proportions. I tried some with honey and got too much of a burnt sugar flavor, which I'm thinking can't be good. Also, what is a good temperature range? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hope that helps.......
