Well, however you measure, as long as you are consistent and make some notes, you can improve future mixes. I mix on a scale by weight right into the bottles I'm making. Are you using recipes you've found or just coming up with your own? I start with recipes I find all over the place from experienced mixers and mix my own recipes with the leftovers. Steeping time can do wonders for flavor too. I mix a lot of creams and complicated flavors, and most of them have been decent right away (vapeable anyway) but get really good at the 30 day point. Just mixed up 480 mls, 15 different mixes, late last night.
