I'd love to hear some thoughts on what the process is when you are trying and discovering new flavors and concentrates. For instance. Do you add the desired pg/vg with the flavoring that you want in small increments, let's say 5 ml testers, to see how the flavors will come together before adding the nicotine? I'm just curious because I have a everything and I don't want waste a bunch of supplies. I know a lot of this is trial and error but any processes or tricks would be helpful. I don't want to just jump into a 6 flavor recipe without doing the basics. I can't run before I walk so any information and help would be great!! Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum!
I also started diy liquids back in Nov'16. I mix single flavor to ratio I prefer ie. 20pg/80vg, no nic 15 ml. I test each flavor once a week over a month of steeping. This way I know what each flavor taste like on there own and steep time for each. After a month I'll mix 2 or more of the steeped flavors together and test these. After I find a keeper I would then add nic (if I used it).
Write down everything like % of flavor(s) used, date mixed, ect ect
Research as Opinionated suggests and have fun.

My nicotine doesn't cost much more per ml than my flavors do, and I use a lot less of it in a mix. It's the flavors themselves that end up being the most expensive component. I do mix small tester batches first (10-30ml, depending on if I'm at all familiar with the flavors that are going in) but I do test with nic in since it can affect the final outcome.

I mix all my new flavors individually and try them out to see what they taste like. normally doing the 100 drop test.

mix 100 drops, normally start at 5 drops of flavoring then 60 drops of vg and 35 drops of pg. give it a good shake and it's ready to go. give me a good idea of what it'll taste like at 5% with 60vg/40pg.

My best advice is make 5ml bottles and start off at low percentages; you can add nicotine after if you like how it tastes. 60vg 40vg is a nice blend for flavor and vapor imo. Choose flavors you like but can also mix down the line once you have the one flavor profile down. I like to think of diy juice like cooking, sometimes you would never consider a flavor in a recipe that would ultimately pull the whole thing together. Don't be afraid to take notes off other recipes or tweak them! I also keep a recipe book and notate what I do differently each time!

After mixing I would give it a couple days and then give it a vape to see if you like it, it will give you an idea of where it's going and what you can increase or decrease. I've been successful with maybe 10 recipes in almost 3 years of making my own juice. But don't let that discourage you; I'm picky and probably not the best mixer.

I did find the perfect flavor profile for me and have been vaping it religiously for almost 2 years now; it's very rewarding. It takes time and can be frustrating. I gave up multiple times and have hundreds of flavors that never got used or dumped down the drain. Good luck:thumb:

After all the $10-$18 30ml bottles of store bought juice I paid for only to find I didn't like all that much and some I never finished, I have no problem mixing up 20ml batches in 30ml bottles at $0.30-$0.75 per batch to try out mixes, including the nicotine. I'm fairly new, but have yet to flush a mix. But I've only mixed flavors and recipes I am pretty sure I will like.....not much of an experimenter.

i started out making 5ml when i first started experimented/DIYing but, it didn't take long for me to start mixing no less than 20mls because i hated not having enough of something that comes out great and having to wait till more is ready (i am an i want more now person or i am not happy vaping when it comes to mixes/juices that i really like).

i didn't use nic when i first started mixing because that was what was recommended to do but, after noticing how adding the nic changed the overall flavor of my first couple mixes, i started always adding nic right off the bat after that. i was already vaping at 6mg, now 3mg, so it didn't cost me much if i wasted a mix anyways and like olderndirt said, i too paid a lot more for bought juices and personally have not finished 75% of the hundreds of bottles i have bought so even if you waste nic while experimenting, you are still saving loads of $$!!

will say have gotten lazy overtime and nowadays i mostly taste new flavorings by adding a drop or two on coil in my rda with unflavored nic and 2% koolada in it instead of automatically making a mix with it. it gives me an idea of how strong flavoring is and if i will even like it right from the start.

Using 5 ml testers is my first step in evaluating a mix after I evaluate the flavors. I use 3 ml. testers to evaluate the single flavor prior to using them in a mix. This is my preference and works for me, there is no single right way to mix for all folks/requirements.
Glad you are familiar with vaping before you attempt DIY, read (and it makes sense to me) that most people should not attempt DIY'g until they have vaped for 6 months or more.

Hi again Bubble
I mix up 10 ml because I find 5 ml too hard to mix accurately to especially with the lower % flavors.

I started with popular recipes I was pretty sure I'd like. I didn't like them all by any means. Then I started doing 5 ml flavor comparisons with single flavors at 10%, comparing say Cap's strawberry to Flavorah's. Now I'm starting to do my own recipes, one for one so far. :)
