Heey Nick here. Hope yall are doing great.

I'm a former smoker for about 6 years before quitting a few weeks back because of vaping. I used to smoke around 35-40 cigs a day, so being able to say i haven't smoked a single cig in the last 3 weeks is a really big achievement for me. I just hope I haven't done too much damage to my lungs...

I'm making a new account because I want to be informed about this subject and I need advice to not waste money. Thanks!

Welcome to ECF, Nick. 3 weeks! Congrats. I smoked for more than 30 years and I can be pretty sure you haven't done any more damage than I haven't..
Man that's a relief. I was actually thinking of getting a checkup done now that I don't drink or smoke. Just to be sure everything is working lol.

Well if you were seeing a doctor on some kind of schedule, you should continue doing that. If you want to tell him or her that you've decided to vape instead of smoke or just say you don't smoke anymore is up to you. My doc was thrilled when I told him that I didn't smoke anymore but seems to have nothing good or bad to say about vaping. Actually his thoughts in general about THR are of no concern to me. I'm just glad that he's happy with me not smoking anymore.

This has been my experience with random people here too. I had at least 5 people tell me to stop vaping to "avoid a world of pain and a huge medical bill" later in my life. Everyone defaults to "it's bad for you" when they don't know about anything.

Welcome @NickRazz !! Good to see you here and congrats on staying off of the death sticks..... I am telling my age (not that I care) but I was a heavy smoker for 40 years and so I would not worry too much about what smoking has done to you.... The IMPORTANT point is that you have quit before something bad does happen to your health because rest assured something bad will happen if you smoke them long enough. You either end up with cardiovascular disease, COPD, or lung cancer, none of which is a fun thing to have happen..... I know first hand as my Mother was a heavy smoker for about 40 years and she ended up getting terminal lung cancer from smoking. So, I know first hand it's dangers.

Hang in there buddy as things will get easier and more pleasant for you :) I certainly do not know if vaping is safe.......... But what I do know for a fact is that burning tobacco smoke is definitely NOT safe and kills a lot of people.....

I also know that vaping is pleasurable and it does not produce an offensive odor to other people..... Yes, vaping helped me get away from tobacco but I also vape because I enjoy it.... In my case, I am getting older now and so if vaping ends up giving me some weird disease or does me in then it does not matter as much because I am old and something is going to take me out anyway. So, I might as well be doing something that I enjoy.... If I were younger, then I would not be smoking, vaping or anything else that my body does not need. But like I say, now that I am older, i sort of care less..... Glad you like it here on the forum :)

That's my goal too when I'm like 60 maybe. There's a lot more stuff that I don't do now that I will DEFINITELY try when I'm that old lol. For now, the worst I had is a mild case of a runny nose because of the condensed water because of water vapor but that's NOTHING compared to lung cancer from smoking I guess haha.

@NickRazz Yep, lung cancer from smoking is not something that any sane person would desire. When my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer she only lived 3 months with it before she was gone.....

What some people do not understand is that pathologists can determine lots of times what caused your lung cancer and not just because they know you smoke..... There are several things proven to cause lung cancer such as smoking, asbestos, and certain chemicals..... The thing to understand is that there are various types of cancer cells and that each type of cancer cell is only caused by one causative agent.... Lung cancer from smoking causes a certain class of cancer cells but lung cancer from asbestos causes a totally different class of cancer cells..... So, by looking at your cells from a biopsy it can be determined what caused the lung cancer (usually)....

As for vaping...... The only thing I can possibly think of that may be harmful are these not so wonderful things known as preservatives..... Some preservatives are very nasty while others are much safer....... Most modern food substances contain preservatives in order to slow down microbial growth, preserve freshness and color..... This also includes flavorings and sweeteners in e juice..... Certain nasty preservatives (Nitrates) are broken down into nitrites by the body and those nitrites affect the cellular Mitochondria. In other words, those nitrites are carcinogens and cause cancer.... I highly doubt you would ever find a nitrate used in e juice but other preservatives are used..... I personally have a hatred towards preservatives and my suspicion is that they cause more harm than is currently known.

Time will tell if vaping is harmful but personally I am an old duffer who is going to enjoy it and not worry about it :)

Welcome NickRazz, and congratulations on quitting cigarettes. It gets better and better from here.

My advice to new forum members is always the same: go to CASAA.org and sign up for free, to get alerts when the government nannies are trying to take away our vapes, so you can do what you can when you can.

My experience was that my lung damage from smoking began to clear and heal when I left cigarettes behind by vaping.

As for vaping without wasting money, you'll learn. I remember plowing through heaps of cash when I first became enamored of vaping, to figure out what equipment, pg/vg ratios, nic levels and flavors were right for me. It didn't take long, though, to get it the way I wanted, stable, with an all day flavor I love, and equipment I have been satisfied using for years and years now.

Will do! Although I'm not based in the US anymore. (I used to work in NY but now I'm working remotely from Sri Lanka).

Also, I know what you mean about having to spend a lot starting out. I already spent around a tenth of my last paycheck on mods, pods, and liquid lol.

But I think I have already learned a lot from the forums alone so I feel like I wouldn't have to spend too much going forward.
