Most recently it has been some indy music like the Decemberists and anti RIAA stuff like NIN and Radiohead. Grew up on (and still have the original vinyl) Yes Pink Floyd, The Who, Emerson lake and Palmer, Genesis, and Jethro Tull. I regularly listen to classical, celtic, broadway, and blues in addition to the aforementioned.

Guess I like everything except pop of any vintage, country, western, country and western, and ANY hate/death metal hiphop or rap.

Eclectic taste here also.
More mainstream Pop though.
Classic rock: Rolling Stones, Mellencamp, Heart, Beatles etc..
Some country, older and newer: Patsy Cline, Shania Twain, Lady Antebellum....
Pop: Michael Jackson, Beach Boys, Adele, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Carpenters to name a few of many
Older stuff: Jefferson Airplane, Janice Joplin, Nancy Sinatra
Movie star/singer: Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra etc...
Every freaking song in Grease
John Denver, the Judd's, Lady Gaga, Pink, Whitney Houston even Cher.
Someone that Hula might familiar with: Israel k (Iz) iz somewhere over the rainbow - Google Search 1st YouTube. My favorite rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow EVER.

Eclectic here as well: favorite bands range from Modest Mouse to John Prine, with heavy doses of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Wilco, Ween, the Pixies, the Chieftains, Gaelic Storm, and the Squirrel Nut Zippers as well.

Lately though I've really been digging on Father John Misty, Bright Eyes, and Of Monsters and Men.

The Black Keys, Fun, Vampire Weekend, Beastie Boys, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Coldplay, the Doors, Johnny Cash, CSNY, Glen Hansard, Paul Simon, Ryan Adams, and RHCP also worthy of a mention.

Too many others to list...

Don't really know what qualifies one as a part of the army, but I will throw my hat in....
Mainly electronic, mostly good deep Chicago house and Detroit techno, but I am also taking a liking to the newer jamtronica from groups like the disco biscuits or sound tribe sector nine. Love me some funk, and have always been a fan of the Allman brothers and all of their side projects...
Pretty much anything but mainstream classic rock and country.

Country to black death metal.. Nothing that involves hip hop or rap at all. Country is a new found love for me so I'm still searching.
Lastfm.com/xxpiccxx if anyone wants a really great idea of everything the Internet knows I've listened to for 6 years.
Beatles and nine inch nails are 2 of my favorites but you throw some Phillip glass in there for good measure. Nothing beats a good piano solo.
In the past 3 months this is some of the stuff that I've listened to over and over again.

And then overall for years.

I love country, and by country I mean the original stuff to the 90's. Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, George Jones, Jerry Reed then on to Dwight Yoakam (awesome actor as well), Clint Black and Randy Travis. These modern day cats sound like crap, and they all sound the same. Playing dress up and singing about a rural life that they've never experienced. Then you have the folks coming from rock to country and I can't help but lollerskate!

I also forgot to mention bluegrass, it's beautiful music. A few others- Buddy Holly, Smokey Robinson, The Cars... we could all go on forever I'm sure lol.

...Um, I'll just take that as an invitation to go on maybe just shy of forever (though I'll try to keep it more brief than is my wont on the subject), but you can skip reading it if you start to nod off and just humor the new chick with a serious music monkey on her back:laugh:! CarbonThief, who briefly swung by the Lounge, already knows that I'm a crazed, rabid music fanatic. The link in my sig is to one of two music games (song name chains) in ECF's Lounge, where they also have two "what are you listening to right now?"-type threads (all are more than welcome). Music has always been my passion since the crib. So many of he old greats are still my staples. Some off the top of my head - The Weavers, Lead Belly, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Ben E. King, anything by Leiber and Stoller, Cole Porter, Ella, Etta and Billie, Sara Vaugn, Woody Guthrie, lots of the classic musicals, The Coasters, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Smokey, Jerry Lee Lewis, Sam Cooke, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, early Elvis, Dylan, The Band, The Byrds, Stones, tons of Beatles, Beach Boys, Velvet Underground, loads of The Kinks, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Tim Hardin, Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Joplin, Joni, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, X and some other punk, Judy Collins, Leonard Cohen, The Doors, CCR, Clapton, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, a lot of Motown and the girl groups fueled by Carole King and Phil Spector8-o8-o, Otis Redding, Booker T & the MG's, Dave Brubeck, The Mar-Keys, Mable John. Carla Thomas, Stan Getz, Miles Davis, Coltrane, Harry Belafonte, Jimmy Cliff, Toots & The Maytals, Desmond Dekker, plenty of classical, heavy on the Beethoven...

I do have to thank my parents' enormous record and old reel-to-reel collections for my discovery and love of much of the above. But, later in life, here's some of the artists that I fell/ am falling hard for - R.E.M., Liz Phair, Elliott Smith, Nirvana, Modest Mouse, Beck, Spoon, Pixies, Hayden, some Sonic Youth, Ween, Cake, Fiona Apple, The Smiths, Radiohead, Pavement (and all Stephen Malkmus spin-offs), Built To Spill, Sebadoh, The Shins, PJ Harvey, Eels, Ben Kweller, Dinosaur Jr. (and Lou Barlow/ J. Mascis spin-offs), Cat Power, White Stripes, Yo La Tengo, Adrian Orange & Her Band (AKA Thanksgiving), Karl Blau, Weezer, Andrew Bird, Bright Eyes, Beth Orton, some Blur, some Pulp, The Decemberists, Beirut, Regina Spektor, Sharon Van Etten, Unbunny, Heatmiser, Woods Family Creeps, Sparklehorse, Jeff Buckley, Smog (Bill Callahan), Bonny 'Prince' Billy, Daniel Johnston, Fruit Bats, Quasi, Ida Maria, The Essex Green, Folk Implosion, The Mountain Goats, The New Pornographers, Okkervil River, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Kills, Portishead Silver Jews, Angus Stone, The Delgados, The Vaselines, Heartless .......s, Dr. Dog, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Builders And The Butchers, Pedro The Lion, both the Duke and the Delta Spirit, A Hawk And A Hacksaw, Mount Eerie, Julie Doiron, Elf Power, Microphones, (Elephant 6 Collective bands), Little Wings, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Kelley Stoltz, Mason Jennings, Land Of Talk....

Well, I told you you could skip it, right:p? And that's leaving out SO much glorious music. After being a worshiper for life, I'm finally teaching myself to play the guitar, which is quite the challenge for my absurdly sissified little fingers, but is still a thrill. I know some in the Army play; and consider me your default fangirl (honestly:blush:). I know it's a bit off-topic, but any links to you playing or singing (*ahem* Robin *ahem*) would be fantastic:thumbs:!

MP, did you say piano solo? I agree, nothing beats a well done piano solo. Who you talkin' about?

bedemy8u.jpg

As I'm listening right now it's perfect timing.
I spent 3 years listening to the same 5 tracks by him.
By all means suggestions are welcome. Having access to millions of tracks on my phone, i listen to music all day and night as long as I'm not getting angry with talk radio :p

I assume you are referring to a boogie woogie piano solo such as Billy Powell's solo on Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Call Me The Breeze." ;)

I do love classical piano too, but nothing beats a good boogie woogie piano solo. Check out this guy. Amazing chops:

To much to list. But I got a big like for old school hip hop. Anything with a good beat. But I love classic rock too. Progressive/punk also a favorite. During work I listen to Stern a lot. White noise almost. Used to listen to local talk radio in the morn with our old police commish. But music just puts me in a great mood.
