Hey, you do it anyway you need to. You are taking steps to better yourself; you have to do it any way that works for you. I am new at all this, and I am much like you. I can't seem to give up those last few a day. I know I will eventually, but needing those few as a crutch is still better than forgetting it all and just going back. So yeah for you and I hope both surgeries go as planned.

Welcome and congratz! I used an inhaler as well before I started vaping almost two months ago. I haven't smoked one cig since I took my first vape and I have not used my inhaler since then as well. My breathing is so much better! I have three packs of analogs left and don't intend on smoking them, ever. I guess I keep them since I did pay for them and maybe someday I will bronze them as a reminder that I beat that habit! :)

Hi again,

Here is an update and I'm looking for a dinky bit of encouragement. I've been on the e-cigs since Friday, so in 12 hrs it'll be one week. When I started I had one open pack of analogs left. Since Friday I've had 5 analogs total. I seem to have one at bedtime as a reward for not having any during the day. I'm on my 3rd Carto since starting too, so I've even cut down in that regard, I was a pack a day smoker. :)

I'm gonna do this I guess until the pack is gone then try just e-cigs. Just found out I'm having a minor surgery next week, and two days later my middle kiddo is having oral surgery (he's 12) and I'm worried for him with the pain he will have for a few days after. His surgery will be pretty extensive and he's more dental phobic than me lol, so I'm way more worried about his surgery than mine. I'm hoping mine won't keep me from driving too long, that's my main worry with mine.

So I guess when I get through next week it'll be easier to give up the analogs all together. So PLEASE tell me it's okay doing it this way until the pack is gone. I'm really trying and I hope it'll be easier after next week.

I hope it's okay if I'm doing it this way for a bit longer.

Remember that every cigarette you didn't smoke was a WIN, and every one you don't smoke will be another WIN! Out here in the real world sometimes we have to take a step back in order to take two steps forward, but that's okay as long as we keep our focus on those victories. If you look back since you began vaping I'll bet you'll see you've had a lot more victories than you've had setbacks. I'd also bet, going forward, on average the victories will increase & the setbacks will decrease. So just don't worry, just trust in the process & do what you have to do. It takes what it takes to learn what we need to know to get where we need to go, but that's okay. When we get there it'll be so worth it! Quitting isn't a race to the analog free finish line, everyone will find the pace that works for them. It's already a huge accomplishment that you have cut down from a pack a day to only one a day and that's something to be truly proud of.

Every analog you *don't* smoke is a plus. This isn't like AA where you have to turn in your chip and start all over...

It takes some people longer than others... and some never totally give them up. I did however read a statement once that, statistically, if you smoke less than 5 cigarettes per day, you're within the margin of error to be considered a "non-smoker" for health considerations.

Sounds like you'll eventually give them up entirely, though. It tends to happen by accident for a lot of folks; you'll wake up one morning & realize that you haven't had a real one in days.

I am new here, but I wanted to add my congrats as well!

I am 57 years old and have smoked 1 1/2 - 2 packs per day for 40 years. I started hearing about e cigs and did loads of research. December 19, 2011, I was going out to look at some Christmas lights and I stopped at my local Sam's club. I was there that morning to buy a carton of cigarettes and saw the Mistic e cig display. Well, I went in and tried some. As you can imagine, I was VERY skeptical. They were great, a "new toy". I used them as well as analogs and I was amazed to find that I began liking vaping more. LOL! Then I started reading about flavors, refilling and all... Well, I got some flavors from ECBlend. They came on Feb 7. I started playing around with them, testing, tasting, mixing... (some mix was good and others, well....) It was not really my intent to stop smoking because I really didn't believe that anything would help. On the evening of Friday, February 10, I suddenly realized that I hadn't had an analog all day! Today is Sunday, March 4 and I have not had a "real cig" since that day.

I didn't plan or really even try, it just happened. So Linda, just be easy on yourself and don't stress. You are doing GREAT!!!!! AND IT WILL HAPPEN!!!;)
 
Wow, you all are fantastic. I was away for a bit, and had a minor setback so to speak with the two surgeries I got a bit stressed. The day after my surgery and then with my sons (which made me way more nervous) I smoked a few a day instead of one. Then I went to the store and they only had the lower nicotine filters, so I only bought one 5 pack of those to hold me over until I can get to another store. They weren't as satisfying and with the added stress I worked my way back up to 3 analogs a day ugh. But tomorrow (Monday) getting a few packs of the max strength nicotine and will cut back down to 1 a day again. I still feel like I need that one at night dang it.

I read a few posts on here that told me to stop beating myself up and stop stressing about how much I've cut down. Looking back since Feb 10, I have smoked in 24 days about 2 packs ( 1 1/2 analogs a day instead of 24 packs. So I guess everyone is right, I will continue to do what is a comfortable level for me, the more pressure I put on myself thinking it should come right away is making it harder.

I guess because previously the times I quit, it was always cold turkey because I found out I was pregnant, and now I feel like it's cheating, but it's really not, it's working my way towards a goal.

It sounds like you're doing a fine job working your way to your goals. Just keep moving forward and don't let yourself get stressed out about your rate of progress. One day you'll likely stop and realize you haven't had an analog in over a week and didn't even notice! I know for me the whole accidental quitting was a very satisfying surprise.
