I've vaped previously with ego based equipment and did not succeed in quitting smoking. I stepped up to an eleaf istick basic and finally quit after 35 years at 1-2 packs a day.
Its been 35 days now with no tobacco. The eleaf has been a bit of a headache for me. My coils start tasting awful in a day or two using only Ry80. I switched out the clearomizer to a cheep evod and it seems to work better.

About 2 weeks ago there were no coils available locally and all of mine were jammed up. So I built a mech mod and RDA out of spare electrical parts and a ryobi battery pack. I pulled the coils out of the atomizers and used those after checking ohms (1.5 generally). It works well enough but is kinda scary to use. And yes it is inherently unsafe. I had to build a battery charger as well. That runs at 350ma and 5.2 volts and has a high temp cut off at 70°c. I monitor my battery charger RELIGEOUSLY. By the way, I'm a highly experienced electric and mechanical technician.

I finally found a way to get gear shipped here so come mid August I'll have a brocly mech mod, mutation xv4 rda, 4 Sony vt3s, a no record i4 charger, kanthal wire and a coil tool kit

I'm currently engaged in sailing a boat around the world. I'm in Roatan Honduras until November then on to Panama. So I'll be talking about the struggles of vaping around the world over the next five years.

Hi and welcome! What an adventure you're on. Talk about self sufficiency. It sounds like you're handling your vaping quite well. Clearly you're extremely capable to truly "do it yourself", but the creature comforts of a nice RDA, proper batteries, an whatnot will make things easier. What are you doing for your juice supply. Are you mixing that up yourself as well?

Welcome to ECF, sailoralan! It sounds like you could be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to mod making. The fact that you know electronics gives me a good feeling that you won't do anything stupid like stories I've read in the past. It sucks that the US government wants to kill vaping, but if you can get yourself some 100 mg nicotine, at least you can make your own juice with it. Safe travels on your voyage, it sounds like a big undertaking!

Right now I have a local supplier for premised. I have made a batch of VG from a combo of olive oil and coconut oil that looked and tasted good. However it had a strong alkaline ph to it so I didn't vape it. I've got juice materials coming, and do plan to mix my own.

In the istick basic, I have used the gs air that comes with it, evod, protank II mini, and an old ce4 and ce5. (T2 and T3 are too wide).
The gs air 2 tank is petty nice i think, certainly I enjoy it more than the evod, but those are pretty much the only options available locally. At this point I can only get the evod coils here.

Welcome and happy sailing! Just a warning do not vape oils, very bad for your lungs. The flavoring should be mixed in PG. Or just vape without flavorings works too. A good rebuildable tank would make it easier for you, hope you can get those things where you are.
no worries mate, I've been around. I just didn't want to throw up a soap recipe on an e-cig site.
