Hello all. Just signed up and have some way newb asked over and over questions.

I bought my first mod a few days ago, Innokin Proton, and really like it. I sampled some juice at my local shop and found one I really like. Return of the Dragon (strawberry, dragonfruit and peach) and really would like to start mixing because I can see buying premix may get quite expensive. Is there a standard method to mix? How difficult would it be to mix to compare to the Return of the Dragon?

Thank you very much.

Welcome to ECF. You might want to take a look around our DIY forum:

DIY E-Liquid

Overall, trying to recreate a specific juice doesn't often work particularly well. A more successful approach to DIY is to just start looking for new flavours you like. Most people find plenty of flavours that work for them; they're just not necessarily the same as commercial juices.

If you want to try it anyway, you can start where dennism suggested and Google for recipes. Good luck!

Hello and welcome to ECF. You have already been given some good resources for DIY. The beginning cost will be a small set back however you will save loads in the long run. There are great recipes that will be freely shared. The best advice I can give you is Write It Down! There is nothing worse than coming up with a great vape and then not being able to duplicate it. Don't ask me how I figured this out.
Again, welcome to ECF and the world of vaping.

I have the TFA versions of all those flavors and they aare all pretty good. I haven't tried them all together yet though. I use between 1-3% usually unless it is tobacco or a single flavor. You may like stronger flavors but be careful, it's easy to overdo it. This is a good DIY thread to ask questions...

It can be tricky duplicating a commercial made juice. They obviously have magical elves putting this stuff together as some of them are quite awesome to vape. But once you start playing around with diy, you'll find that you can accidently make something even better than what the elves make and sell. Just make good notes so it wont be a happy accident the second time around. I found a commercial made lemon pastry/cake juice i liked but didnt much like paying so much for it. I messed around, tweaking recipies and came up with something i like very much (im on my second 100ml, first 100 lasted all of 7 days). Its nothing like the store bought but to me, its even better. Be aware also that you can and probably will accidently make a batch of crap on occasion. This is part of the learning curve. You can always pawn these off on unsuspecting friends and who knows, they might actually like it (this happened to me once lol). To begin with though, follow recipies first before you go out on a limb and go all martha stewart with it lol.

Thanks everyone for the replies and info. I'm starting to get things in order as far as supplies. This may be better in the diy section but I'll ask here first. I've noticed that bull city vapor seems to be a popular place for supplies. I know a lot of this is very subjective but are there any brands that are most popular/better? FlavourArt etc?

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to mixing, flavors and flavor types. MOST FA flavors seem to be on the stronger side, but again it's personal preference.

It's fine to TRY and clone a recipe (I mean, manufacturers aren't going to hand you the recipe as you tell them you are now going to try DIY, so just go in kind of open minded and do your best. You may find you like something BETTER than the original flavor you are going for, and the sky is the limit as far as individual recipes.

The best part is you are mixing for YOUR palate and no one else's

I really like BCF and Niv Riv. Each brand has flavors they do best. I like a lot of Flavorah, TFA, Flavor Art, and some Flavor West. The FW Butterscotch Ripple is delicious.

How difficult would it be to mix to compare to the Return of the Dragon?
Welcome and glad you joined.
It's kind of difficult to start out DIY'g when you are still trying out new equipment and establishing your taste favorites. One shot flavors are starting to gain momentum for those interested in mixing their own and want to start out simple. One shot flavors (OS/Flavor Blends) are premixed flavors that are only designed to be used on their own and mixed with a base of Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerin and Nicotine (at least one/two/all of the three). One shot mixing is supposed to be close to the flavor promoted on the bottle. These mixes may allow some adjustment of the strength (percentage) of the mix. OS Mixing can be a good introductory to DIY. One shots and flavor blends are simply added per directions to the mixer's desired mixing base, Shake and Vape (SnV) or steep as directed.

Just my two cents but I would play around a little bit with all of the sample juices out there available to new customers before you commit to just one flavor for DIY. I have been trying out different flavors for about six months and ready to jump in now with DIY. Some flavors that I liked when I quit smoking I no longer like and some that I never expected to like are now favorites. My long winded way of saying your tastes will change if you are quitting smoking.

Thanks again for everyones replies I really appreciate it.

All of this is kinda overwhelming even down to the lingo. Anyway I did order a few flavors and other supplies to do some mixing myself and still have some other questions so please bare with me.

As I mentioned I have the Innokin Proton and am using the mesh coil that came with it. Can I use a whole different tank on it and if so which one would be recommended? I would like to do some rebuilding.

When I take the drip tip off there is some juice inside the cap not the drip tip. Is this normal? The reason I ask is I didn't know if I had the wattage high enough, I keep it at 60 watts, and it wasn't getting it hot enough. The juice I'm using is 80/20. When I do the mix would it be better to mix it 50/50?

At that wattage and I do lets say and 1-2 sec hit, I don't taste the juice. If I turn up the wattage I can taste the juice and hear the "popping". Does it matter or does it come down to preference? Again I ask wondering if the wattage is high enough. I know these are some lame questions so thanks again for the replies.

You can use a different tank (and an rebuildable on it) yes. As far as which ONE that will depend on your vaping preferences, but your mod should be able to handle a fairly decent wattage with the right batteries. I have a hunch you want a more DL, low resistance tank, and I vape MTL and at low wattages, so any recommendation as to what tank... You could check out this forum for suggestions, or ask there:

Or I'm sure more DL folks will be along, etc.

Good luck.
