If it's illegal it will definitely not get released, I've seen a couple of chinese shops saying they will mark their packages as "Gifts" so they clear customs easier but I haven't tried them (and tbh I hope it's not that easy to fool customs). Let us know how this proceeds, I'm quite interested to see if there's a fine or something.

How far are you from the International Post Office. I ordered Sony Readers from the US and customs sent me a text message saying that I could wait for them to determine the duty and taxes (and then another message, then shipping... maybe 3 days)...

Instead, I just dropped by the Terminal D of Incheon Airport, walked around until I found the Int'l Post Office... and stood in line with all the EMS and FedEx guys to pick up my package. Five hours on subway, bus, walking, waiting, filling out forms... way better than waiting a few days for the usual method.

If your item might be rejected for import, then showing your face to government officials might not be a waste of time. They're still human and might release it to you just for all the trouble you went through?
