Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the forum!

I am new to vaping and having some minor atomizer issues.

My first tank I bought was a Kanger Protank Mini. I was very happy with that for a while, but eventually wanted a larger tank. I got an Aspire BDC tank and have had trouble with it. My first atomizer was DOA and the second works but I am always having to pry the pin up to get contact. I've seen this is a common problem. I was thinking I might replace it, so my roommate gave me an extra Kanger Protank 2 he didn't use.

Anyway now I have an odd issue. On my itazte vv 3.0 the new atomizer I just put in I'm finding is showing different Ohm ratings at different times.

When I first put this atomizer in it said 4.7ohms! This is a Kanger 2.5ohm supposedly by the marking, new from the box. Well I had already dry hit it a while to get the wick wet, but I dry hit it over and over and eventually it started to come up at 2.8ohm. Then a few hours later it started reading 3.5ohms. Then later back to 2.8.

I'm suspecting there is a short in this atomizer and I should just throw it away, but most of the time it is hitting fine. I've had a few hits that were burnt tasting.

What do you think is the problem here? Any ideas?

Does anyone have a preference to Kanger vs Aspire BDC coils for reliability? I was thinking I may just stop using the Aspire but now I'm just not sure if I'm having these Kanger problems as well. At least the Kanger does hit!

Anyway thanks in advance for any advice!

Kat

Thanks Benny!

that definitely sounds like a short. i use an rda and whenever the ohm's fluctuate it means the posts have become loose. after tightening the posts it goes back to normal.

I would imagine on since this is not an RDA I should just junk the thing? Is this something you can fix on a Kanger atomizer or not worth it?

I've had that problem too on a Kanger AeroTank. Changed out the atomizer and it worked fine, must have been a bad one. I did notice that after I take it apart for cleaning, I have to be really good about screwing in the atomizer tight or it won't register in my eVic. I know that the Aero uses a different atomizer but make sure it's in the base of your tank really good before closing it up and loading it onto your mod.

Disassemble the PT2 and take a look at the coil head. Chances are that the leads from the coil are poking out from the rubber grommet on the bottom. If so, you can use a poking instrument to push them underneath and on top of the grommet, respectively. After that you shouldn't have any more shorts and the ohm reading will be truthful again. :)

Thanks for the advice on that ieremia and Kryyptyk. I will check those things out when I get home later.

Anyone have any comment on the Aspire reliability? Keep buying coil heads or throw in a drawer?

I've heard one person in a YouTube video say possibly Aspire will update the QC on these and they will become reliable in a future model update?

Have you tried rebuilding the MPT2 heads? I have the MPT2 and have nothing but trouble with it but I found it was pretty easy and cheap to rebuild the heads. Rip Triper has a couple vids on it and I think the micro coil is much easier.
(oops can post links)
Also found loosening the top of the tank made it wick much better with less dry hits.

I have been going back and forth between Kanger and Aspire and to be honest, I haven't had problems with either but I prefer the Aspire. I would occasionally get dry hits from the Kanger Pro-Tank 1&2 and I still use them on a couple of my mods but my Aspire's are my daily drivers on 2 of my mods because I don't get those dry hits.

This doesn't sound like a short. You are seeing HIGHER resistances than you should, right? A short will cause a lower-resistance reading.

Sounds to me like the coil head is not making good contact, which can happen if you screw the head on too tightly. Take it apart, and make sure the coil head is screwed in tightly to it's base, then put the whole thing back together again. Don't over-tighten, since this tends to "back out" the coil head (causing exactly this problem).

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Unfortunately before I saw twg's message I already just threw the atomizer away as I had. A few on hand. Next time I will try that. New one is fine!

Has anyone found that PG makes you cough or feel odd? One girl was mentioning this to me at a place that sells 100% vg liquid. Thinking about everything she described I guess it could be that I experience some of the things described when I vape a lot, such as headache or stomach ache. Course it could be something else or nothing.

If you can feel with your finger some of the wire sticking out as described above, cut them off with nail clippers is the best way. In any case don't throw out the coil. Save them, they are easily rebuildable if you so choose down the line. Believe me, in a short time all this isn't going to be so confusing...and you will rebuild. So much better....it's good now, but rebuilt...wow.
