My name is Jordan and I'm new to the forums and I am new to vaping as well. I recently quit smoking for a few months and started vaping this past Friday. I bought a disposable blu cig and am still using it at the moment and I like it pretty well. I ordered a starter kit with a battery and 2 cartridges and then an extra 5 cartridges from SmokeStik Electronic Cigarette (eCig) | The Alternative to Smoking . I was wondering, how much safer is this than actual cigarettes? I figure it's WAY more safer, although I'm not sure.

Hello Jordan and welcome to ECF. You will find a lot of information here, and a wide variety of answers to your question. I would say the general consensus from my research is that vaping is safer than smoking, but how much safer is up to debate. If you vape too much, despite the strength of the juice, you can still intake way too much nicotine (and that in itself has health consequences). This ECF forum relates to health and safety issues:
Health, Safety and E-Smoking
There are more sources out there on the internet, videos on YouTube, etc. Unfortunately at this point you have to read the info out there and decide for yourself what to believe.
I personally believe vaping is much much healthier than smoking. Others will definitely offer their opinions as well. Good Luck to you.

Hi and welcome to the forum, and welcome to the world of vaping... I've been vaping for almost two years now and have seen no bad side effects, as with smoking, your still using nicotine which is a poison but your leaving all the other junk in analogs to the wayside :) I breathe better, taste food again, don't stink like a smoker, and love the money I'm saving (mind you I waste my savings buying new mods... But I get to keep those and not toss them in the ashtray) there is tons of info here and around the web, read all you can and make up your mind ;)

The "facts" page from SmokeStik spells out how safe e-cigs are compared to smoking: FAQ

I was not familiar with your particular brand of e-cig, so I clicked on the link that you supplied. The first thing that I noticed about this company is how much they overcharge for their products. It looks like you paid $40 for your single battery and 2 cartridges. At a more reputable company like Smokeless Image Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Smokeless Image Electronic Cigarettes - The Future is in your hands , the same can be purchased for $20. Five flavored cartridges from SmokeStix costs $15, at SI they cost $9. The SmokeStix have but a single tobacco and menthol flavor, Smokeless Image carries 15 pre-filled cartridge flavors; what can you do if you can't stand either of the two flavors that SmokeStix offers?

SmokeStix offers no opportunity to expand into more avenues of the world of vaping. Their best battery for $32 is only rated at 250 mah for 2.5 hours of vape time. Smokeless Images smallest battery sells for just $13 and will last that long, their best battery sells for just $20 and will last for 13 hours.

With SmokeStix you are limited to use only expensive pre-fill cartridges. You can save even more money with Smokeless Image by purchasing empty cartomizers and filling them yourself with bottled e-liquid that they sell. And I'm just touching on the tip of the iceburg here with the comparisons.
_____

My point is to not waste another dime on this company. Their batteries and cartridges are nearly twice what you should be paying, and their mechanical devices and e-juice line is ridiculously limited.

Sorry to bring that to your attention, but it had to be said. If you have additional questions, feel free to ask.

They also have a 30 day money back guarantee and a lifetime warranty on their products. Not to mention you are also wrong that they only offer tobacco and menthol flavors because they offer at least 11 other flavors. Cartomizers - Smoke Stik All of their products are also made in the US and aren't some cheap Chinese ..... Sorry to sound like an ......., but I did do some research before I started vaping.

Congrats on making the switch:thumbs:
And welcome to the ECF forum!! You came to the right spot for info.
Seach what has already been listed and your sure to find the answers.
My quick :2c: is this,
Combustion of organic materials (smoking analog cigarettes) leaves behind ash and tar....both negatively affecting your lung tissues.
Also, cigarettes contain over 4000-5000 chemical additives to each cigarette that are toxic to your system.
Vaping is a much "cleaner" substitue. IMHO,
That being said, vaping is still new and has not been fully researched, but the general consensus is that vaping is a SAFER alternative to smoking. How safe??? is up for debate. Keep researching and you'll find your answers.
Smoking is bad, vaping is better, but to avoid both is BEST.
just my opinion

Their juice flavor selection is still severely lacking despite the 11 other flavors offered in the yet more expensive longer pre-filled cartridges compared to the nearly 60 flavors offered between two juice lines at Smokeless Image.

"Our traditional sized cartomizers, equivalent to 1.5 packs of cigarettes." and "Our XL sized cartomizers, equivalent to 2 packs of cigarettes." Have you found these claims to be true? Misleading advertisement in my opinion.

Concerning the lifetime warranty, if you read it closely, you are at the mercy of the company to determine whether they will provide free replacements, and must return the items not working to the company at your cost. The company is already making a killing with the prices that they charge, they can easily afford to replace an item that already is twice the cost of its actual value.

Their Lifetime Warranty is a clever tactic to keep you stuck with their company. I give you 3-4 months at most before you are tired of the pre-filled cartridges and begin looking for a better vape experience, and you won't find it with this company. What you see now is all that you get.

No option to advance by using blank cartos and having the ability to fill them with e-juice from other vendors. No options for other juice carrying devices such as clearomizers, ce3's, cartotanks, clearotanks, etc. are noticeably absent. No options for longer battery life.

This company is no better than the shopping mall kiosks that rip customers off. I appologize ECF mods if I am breaking any forum rules concerning the bashing of vendors, but I just had to speak up.

And I have no connection with Smokeless Image. I only compare SmokeStix to them because it is a company that I have used in the past and is a popular company here at ECF.

My intent was to help a newbie get out of a bad situation. If after comparing this company to other's and you are still convinced they are the best solution for you, then go for it my friend. As we like to say here, whatever keeps you off of the smokes. ;)

I didn't really know where to start, I just didn't want to use cigarettes again is all.

We all started somewhere - the point is to stop smoking. The members here try to give people suggestions to get the most for their money and find a set-up to give them a good experience. If you aren't getting a good vape, it can be very discouraging. Everyone has their own preferences, so it's better to have a device you can experiment with to find what's right for you.

I started with Green Smoke - a set-up similar to what you linked to. I quickly outgrew it. Despite what they claim, those carts are not equal to "1.5 packs of cigarettes." I don't consider it was a complete waste though, it got me off of tobacco and opened the door for me to see the benefits of vaping.

Would I be able to buy cartomizers from Smokeless Image and use them on the stuff I already got?
That would be breaking the loyalty program and Lifetime Warranty agreement with SmokeStix. :p

Seriously, I'm not sure. Smokeless Image uses the 808 threading for their batteries and juice carriers and they make no attempt to hide this fact. I have no idea what thread (510 or 808) SmokeStix uses, I saw no mention of this on the website. Some companies actually go to the trouble of adding a pecular threading to a commonly used one in order to force you to stay with their products.
____

I agree with The Ocelot, the kit that you have on the way will get your foot in the door of vaping and possibly help you to decide if you will like vaping. A simple disposable e-cig from a gas station or convenience store such as your Blu would do the same.

It's just that there are two tiers of e-cigs brands that are out there vying for your beginner vapors' money.

Some are legitimate companys that make a quality line of products that are reasonably priced. The others are ripoffs that put a lot of money into their advertising budget that make questionable claims, yet put out an inferior overpriced line of product and keep you purchasing with them with unnecessary restrictions that only serve their own purposes.
____

If you are still under the 30 day money back guarantee of satisfaction, I would seriously try to get out from under this companies grasp. My guess they will throw some roadblocks into your getting that money back, but at least you wouldn't be wasting more money on them in the future.

I would not even open the package when it arrives if you chose to take heed of my warnings. You will likely be charged a processing or restocking fee if you choose to return it, so you likely will not get a full refund back. Contact the company and advise them that you have chosen not to use their product and find out what their return policy is. Your best bet may be to just suck this up to experience, cut further losses, and find a better vendor.

Any experienced vapor here on the forum can give you better recommendations of product and juices and keep you within a reasonable budget.

The kit that you have ordered is extremely inadequate to expect to quit and stay off of cigarettes. You need battery time to last you for the entire awake times that you will be vaping. The single battery that you will be getting will last 2-3 hours and then need to be recharged. What will you vape with while that single battery recharges? Whether you correct that with more batteries of the same, or go with another company that offers longer lasting batteries is up to you to decide. The cartridges will last most likely half a day each.

The "average" vapor consumes 3-5ml of juice daily. Considering that a pre-filled cartridge can hold 1 - 1.5 ml of juce, you do the math.
____

Again, jdw89, my intent is to not be critical of you. Myself and others are just trying to help you out. We are not trying to discourage you from your goal of stop smoking.

Hello Jordan,

My wife and I have smoked for over 18 years and just recently switched to vaping. The savings alone for me was worth the switch, around $400 a month!!! Since switching we have noticed we can breathe better and we can taste and smell foods better. I have also noticed that I now hate the smell of cigarettes. Most importantly, it is definitely safer for my daughter, who no longer has to breathe any second hand smoke. Good luck with your switch to vaping!

According to a thread on Vaper's Forum, SmokeStix has RN4081 threading, so you can buy empty cartridges for them.
