hello All,
I am very new to vaping, trying to kick the two decade long smoking in the process. However, the lack of information and confusion on the internet is not helping me. I have got me a smok V8 baby from a local vape shop. But the liquid often leaks the sides of the pen, squirts out (tiny drops) in my mouth, and often the pen gets hot (tank side and drip tip too). What could I be doing wrong?
Also, where can I buy good eliquid from?

Hi and welcome.

Don't have one of those but sounds like it is flooding. Several things could cause that. The Juice you are using may be too thin. Higher VG juice is thicker. What ratio PG/VG is the ejuice?

Also check to make sure all the gaskets are in place and the coil is screwed down in the tank and the tank parts are not loose either.

Usually, these symptoms are user error. Your juice attachment, or tank, sounds like it is "flooded". E-liquid drops in the mouth while vaping is known as "spit back".

Flooding is a common occurrence in e-cigarettes. The definition of flooding is getting juice into the air passage of the tank. This can include any point between the mouth piece and the very bottom part that connects to the battery. Each tank has holes in that air passage, where the wick passes through. This is required for the device to work properly. Unfortunately, this opens up the possibility for flooding. The trick with flooding, is knowing how to avoid it. I’ll explain a little more, but a few common causes for flooding a tank include: improper filling, over filling, pulling too hard when hitting the device, and the temperature can even play a role and/or damage.

Before I get into the explanation, let me explain how an e-cig works a little more in depth. Nearly every tank has a wick that is used to absorb the juice in the tank. This wick cuts through the air passage. Typically, the wicks looks like a wad of cotton hanging in the tank. Each wick has a piece of wire that wraps around it in a coil. When you activate the button on the battery, you send electricity through the wire. As the wire heats up, it vaporizes the juice that is in the wick.

Improper Filling: When filling your tank, you have to be careful not to get juice into the center tube of the tank. This center tube is the air passage. When you take a draw, air comes from the bottom of the tank, through the air passage and into your mouth. If you get juice into this passage way, your tank is flooded. Be sure to add your e-liquid into the space outside of the center air tube.

Over Filling: If you over fill a tank (specifically a top coil like the ones that come with the starter kits and gift boxes), the wicks can become over saturated and just like a rain cloud, they will leak into the air passage. Once this happens, you have a flooded tank. Most tanks have a maximum fill line marked.

Pulling Too Hard: This seems to be the most common culprit for flooding. As I mentioned the wicks absorb the juice in the tank. As you pull on the device, you cause a vacuum effect that pulls juice into the wicks. If you pull too hard, you can pull in more juice then the coil can vaporize. If this happens, the juice leaks into the air passage and you have a flooded tank. Use a more gentle draw when you vape.

Temperature: E-Juice is a viscous liquid. Which means that as it warms up, it will thin out. And in the opposite form, it will thicken when it gets cold. When it thins, it is more difficult for the wicks to hold back the thin juice. This usually causes the wicks to over saturate and, you guessed it, it will leak into the air passage and you have a flooded tank. Heat generally makes liquids expand in volume, and the liquid will seek out the path of least resistance (center air tube or the air intake hole).

Damage: There are o-rings and gaskets used that can wear out with usage. If certain ones fail or get lost, leaking will occur, in turn flooding the air passage and causing you to have a flooded tank. Other than accidentally losing something, damage can occur when its carried in a purse or a pocket or by over tightening the tank to the battery. Over tightening is a very common cause of leaking due to the damage it creates. A micro crack in the glass will also cause leaking.

It's not unusual for the tank and drip tip to feel warm, or even hot to touch, especially if you hit the fire button frequently. After all, the tank has the heating coil in it, and that coil can get pretty hot in order to vaporize your e-liquid. The heat is easily transferred to the drip tip.

I can't offer any specific places to find e-liquid. You didn't include where you are located.

Thank you for your write ups and helpful tips. I am in PA, Chester county.
The smok V8 baby I have is brand new out of the box, has been filled with e-liquid only twice and both the times in a vape shop. I have been using it for the past 4 days and these leaks and flooding/spray in mouth is not helping. I really need it to work.
Thanks again for your help!!

Hi and welcome. You're getting good advice, so I won't overload you by adding my :2c:, beyond observing you do indeed have a "flood". I will, however, also observe you are not lost. With your joining this forum today, you are officially "found." The help you need is here, and available at high speed and free of charge. Welcome to the board.

The learning curve can be steep and very frustrating. People here really want to help you. Unfortunately it takes patience on your part to get it right. We have all fought with leaking tanks, dry hits, bad buttons, dead batteries, nasty juice and maybe the worst of all is trying 20 fixes for one problem before finding the solution.

I will promise you that the fight is worth it in the end. I was a 2.5 to 3 pad smoker until I found vaping. In the first month or so I think I wore more ejuice from leaks than i vaped.

Baditutde has you covered in his post above. I'll add a link to some videos on leaking tanks, sometimes it helps to watch.

You are using wrong vaping device. Smok V8 Baby Stick is terrible choice for most beginners. I know it from many similar post on this forum and from my own experience because I also started to vape with V8 Baby Stick.

My simplest recommendation is to buy Zenith Kroma Kit and forget about your V8Baby.... do not throw it away... in couple months maybe it will be somewhat usable... Zenit Kroma Kit cost as much as 7 packs of cigarettes... if you really want to quit smoking and enjoying vaping do not try forcing yourself to use something that creates problems and provides experience that is too far from what you enjoyed for 20 years.

I second the recommendation for the Zenith Kroma Kit. It is simple to set up and fill, does not leak and provides a very satisfying vape. Cost for Mod and Tank is about $45.00 and the coils last a long time. As far as eliquid goes, I would recommend that you buy from a US supplier. Just Google US eLiquid and you will get many hits and can chose a supplier and flavor that appeals to you.

Welcome to the Forum and good luck!!!

Hi and welcome to the cloudheads!

If I had to guess I'd say you either closed down the airflow, hit it too hard or both.
Did you close the airflow to make it more like a cigarette? That's the wrong device for that, it's meant to be quite airy.

Smok has bad quality control so just changing the coil might fix your problem. Look at the bottom of your coil and make sure the bottom can be pushed up against the bottom o-ring. Google leaking baby beast tanks leaking and you will find videos showing what to look for and how to fix it

Some vapers do well with sub0hm, I was not one of them, I started with a very cloudy device that yes, got hot, and flooded me with so much vape, I wasn't enjoying the experience at all. The smok stick is not always well regarded for the issues you note, flooding, very hot vape, etc.

IF you want to try a MTL vape well the innoken kroma kit is excellent. If you want another fixed wattage stick like type vape that is easy to use a lot of folks swear by the Innnoken T18 and T20 and the coils are designed to match the wattage, many new vapers swear by them and their ease of use.

Finally you could get an Aspire zelos it's an internal battery mod also but you can adjust wattage and settings and the Nautilus 2 tank has the option of different coils 1.8 resistance, 1.6 resistance and 0.7 resistance .It is smaller capacity and can have its issues, but I quit on that tank, so I don't knock it although I think either of the first two choices could work well for you too.

Above all, don't panic, my road to happy vaping was sprinkled with at least SOME inadvisable choices. Work on the flooding with the information you have been given, do your best to keep vaping but if the smokstick doesn't wind up being the answer (and you may well get it functioning well enough for you, I don't know) at least you'll have a backup and once you've been vaping a while, you are going to want one.

Good luck!

Anna

First of all, congratulations on making the decision to kick the habit of smoking - vaping is the only thing that could get me away from it and I hope it does the same for you!

I started out before the whole direct lung, huge cloud phase - I was vaping 18mg juice out of mouth to lung RDA's on some pretty basic mods and it did me good. After a while, the cloud chasing fad began and the mouth to lung equipment and higher nicotine juices started being harder to find so I decided to give the mainstream, cloud chucking form of vaping a shot. I enjoyed it, but it didn't completely satisfy my urge for nicotine (I had also smoked for close to two decades and smoked at least 2 packs a day) - eventually, my cravings got the best of me and I became a dual user.

I quit successfully with the cloud chasing setups a few times, but each time it was a few months here and a few months there... then I discovered pod systems and nicotine salts! I would definitely recommend nicotine salts for anyone trying to kick the habit of smoking - I have now been completely smoke free for more than a year and haven't had a craving for a cigarette in I don't know how long. I still use my high powered mods and 3 - 6mg liquids the majority of the time, but the nic salts definitely got me over the hump!

Whatever you decide to do - try not to get too discouraged and I'm sure you will find something that works for you. I wish you the best!
