Hello,

I started vaping a while back on a joytech ego pen but I have been going back and forth to cigs. I finally made my mind and decided I want to stop smoking cigs and bought a mod Smok priv mini starter kit and this thing is really powerful. I'm vaping at 30w on a .63ohm coil. I love it but for some reason I feel like my throat is really dry after a day with it. Do you guys recommend changing the settings to a lower set up or is it something that I need to get used to since the mod produces a lot more vape than the pen ? Anyways I would like to know and get into the temp feature on the mod but I'm scared to try any other settings than what is recommended on the coil. I come from smoking newports and I'm also looking for an e juice that gets close to that flavor. I have tried a few different menthol e juices but they taste really different. I recently ordered Halo subzero and I'm hoping that give me the feeling I'm looking for. What do you guys recommend ?Thanks

Welcome.
Yes, a big, powerful mod can be too much of a step up. I mostly vape 14-18 watts during the day and higher power at home. Vaping will dry your mouth so more vapor more dry, presumably. Maybe step it down.
To me, Halo is kind of yes & no. Most of the 'old' range is higher PG and not really subohm juice. Very harsh, too much flavor; intended for extinct devices. Do they care? I doubt it - too much money to be made pretending they are still in the game. I tried some of my original Halo liquids the day I stepped up to subohm and never bought a drop since. Hardly good value in the UK, can't speak for USA. Sorry to be hard on them but I just don't see folk using them anymore.

Welcome to ECF, and best of luck dropping the cigarettes.

Vaping does tend to be drying. You can try lowing the wattage, but also make sure you drink plenty of water.

About your settings - there's no harm in going lower than the recommended range. In fact, the best advice for a new coil is to start well below the recommendation and gradually increase the wattage until you're happy with the results.

You need particular coils to use Temperature Control (TC) because the mod needs to know what metal the coil is made of to assess the temperature. You'll probably find your mod has separate settings for Ni200 (nickel), Ti (titanium) and SS 316L (a specific kind of stainless steel). Get a coil made of one of those and pick the right setting and you're good to go. Nickel and titanium should only be used in TC mode. Stainless steel can be used in either TC or regular mode.

Good luck!

Welcome and glad you joined. You will want to read through and perhaps save for future ref:

"Is there a juice out there that actually tastes like a Newport?" No, tobacco ash and vapor are two very different types of inhalants. Are there e liquid tastes that approximate Newport? Might want to try Googeling " newport flavored e liquid ".
I recently ordered Halo subzero and I'm hoping that give me the feeling I'm looking for
I'm not familiar with Halo e liquids, I mix (DIY) my own to suit.
