Hi all,
New member here.
I have a Cool Fire IV battery that is charged. When I press the button, the green light comes on and the display numbers start going up, but there’s no power. I was using it not long before this happened. I also replaced the coil tonight and used it successfully afterwards.
I’ve tried switching it off as per the instructions - press the button 3 x times then the manual switch to off on the bottom, but still nothing when I turn it back on.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

I'm failing to understand your issue. You tried using your mod - everything looked fine, but it doesn't fire. You replaced the coil, and then it worked. Now you're trying to turn it off and back on and it isn't working again?

    Also, welcome to ECF.

    Thanks for your reply Z-Lee.
Sorry if it didn’t make sense - bit tired & frustrated when I wrote it,
Yesterday, the device failed to work and kept saying ‘shorted’ & ‘check atomiser’. I looked it up and it said to replace the coil, so I did that & it worked again. It was fine for a couple of hours. Then i went to use it again and although the green light came on and the display numbers came on - so it looked like it was working - it didn’t, There was no power and it wouldn’t fire. So, I turned it off and on again. It did the same. Not sure what else I can do now.

There we go. That's much more descriptive than what you originally wrote. "Shorted" means your mod isn't detecting a coil, or any thing with resistance. This could be many things, but a lot of times replacing the coil can fix this. It could also be the 510 connection, or even something inside the chip that isn't working correctly anymore. What atomizer are you using and is it new? Are you using a new/different atomizer that's now causing this issue?

The CoolFire IV is pretty old, isn't it? I had a very similar issue with one of my old JoyeTech eVic VT's. Do you have another mod to test your atomizer on? This would help in figuring out if it's the mod that's the issue, or the coil/atomizer.

In my case with the similar issue, it was the 510 connection. First, I'd check the 510 pin in your atomizer, to make sure it's still secured in there tightly (the brass or silver colored circular button on the bottom of the atomizer thread post). Next, I'd try firing the mod while slowly unscrewing your atomizer. Fire the mod for a second, look to see if it's still saying "shorted" or "check atomizer" & listen for it to fire. If the message pops up, loosen the atomizer a quarter turn. Fire the mod again, look for your mod to say "shorted" or "check atomizer" & listen for it to fire. If it's still saying that, loosen the atomizer another quarter turn and do it again. Do this 10-12 times. What you're checking is to see if the 510 receiver on the mod is spring loaded, or if it is, whether or not the spring is still working correctly. In my case, I believe it had been mashed down by an atomizer with a longer thread post, and was not reading correctly when using the original atomizer on it again.

Thanks for your reply. Not sure I explained correctly. It’s not saying ‘shorted’ or ‘check atomiser’ any more. It did that earlier in the day, I replaced the coil and it was fine for a couple of hours.
Now, it looks like it should be working when I press the button - ie, the green light comes on and the display numbers count upwards - so to all intents and purposes it looks like it’s firing - except there’s no power. I’ve unscrewed it, checked everything, charged it up, turned it off and on - nothing. If it was dead, there’d be nothing on the display and the green light wouldn’t come on. I’m stumped

Oh, and no, I don’t have another mod (is that the battery?) to test the atomiser on :(

    Correct, Mod=battery device.
IMO, a trip to your local vape shop may be in order.
They should have another battery device and a topper(tank/rda/rta) they can use to test your Coolfire and your current tank.

    Cheers
    I
P.S. If you have a multi-meter, you can test the continuity of the tank and the power output of the coolfire as troubleshooting steps.

I found an old reply, 5 years ago, from a Innokin rep to someone experiencing something similar to you.
"Have you made sure that the manual ON/OFF switch is switched to "ON" on the bottom of the device? That master switch takes precedence over everything else.
To do a complete power reset, hit the fire button 3 times rapidly and then switch the device off via the manual switch on the bottom. Then, switch it back to on, press the fire button 3 times"
It could be it's not recognizing your atomizer/tank you could also try cleaning the connections well on both the tank and the unit itself.
    Good luck :)

Thanks - the green light comes on and the display lights up so it’s definitely switched on
