Howdy! I live in the mountains of Colorado.

Smoked cigs for 30+ years and quit Sept. 2015. I used the patch initially and then the Vuse e-cig which led me to the vaporfi Rocket (disappointed).

I'm currently in search of a new setup. My knowledge is limited. I'm here to learn what's out there. What the heck is sub ohm and what's the wire for. Gosh, see, I need some schooling!

Wish me luck!

Hello and welcome to the forum @Down-Time. Glad to have you here!:)
What the heck is sub ohm and what's the wire for.
SubΩ are coils with a resistance below 1.0Ω. The wire is what heat up to vaporize the e-liquid. It is contained in the premade coils we buy and wire can be purchased it you are into making your own coils.
I'm currently in search of a new setup. My knowledge is limited. I'm here to learn what's out there.
I often recommend an iStick 30 watt or Coolfire 4 (both mods) with an Aspire Mini Nautillus or eLeaf GS Air M (both tanks). Videos below.

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.
Here are a few more links from New Members Information <= Link covers many topics. Here are two of them:

hi @Down-Time and welcome to the forum. I had to look at the vaporfi rocket site and bite my tongue on it's overpriced rebranded gear.

I would suggest a couple of different setups. The most recommended one is the iStick 30 w mod (battery) and the Aspire Nautilus Mini tank.

You have a hundred choices in the mod part, like the Coolfire IV, or even the 200 watt mods. 30 watts is the minimum I suggest as it allows room to grow.
Another setup to look at is the Kanger Topbox set (around $55). With the Subtank you can use factory coils or build your own in the rba (what the wire is used for). Building coils is easy and much cheaper than buying them.

Honestly the best advice I can give is to look around starting with the above and decide how much you have to spend to get the best vape for the buck.

Thank you for all the great links and info.

Do you use citrus juices? Will this tank leak while using citrus juice? I don't want to buy another setup that is going to leak.

Welcome @Down-Time

I used patches and cig-a-likes to stop smoking. I didn't work 100% (maybe 75%)

Then, I turned to the mighty god of knowledge (Mr Google and his lying, cheating, rip-off friends) and then proceeded to spend another $500 on top of $300

Bad brands are bad brands, what more can I say. Many of us fell for their sales pitch and marketing hot air feeling we were definitely onto a winner.
$119 for a $29 e-cig is not on. Yes... you probably need some help extricating yourself from these arrogant & greedy shysters.

- - -

I was on a website only 20 minutes ago which has a "top 15" of the supposedly 'best' e-cigs in the world. 9 of them were useless plastic sticks which barely work. The other 6 sold 2nd/3rd generation devices, but only the ones that pay the most commission.

There are over 100 of these websites set up purely to promote scam/rip-off brands.
This is what the market is and for many it means not quitting smoking.

I use Citrus a lot. Glass (Pyrex) is the answer. Most of the nice tanks by Aspire, Eleaf, Kanger, Innokin are now glass.

Welcome Down-Time!

Citrus and hot cinnamons and others tend to behave a little better with GLASS tanks. I know for sure the Nauti Mini is glass (I have and use some of those) Never tried the eLeaf GS Air, but I hear good comments on them.

Leaking can occur with pretty much anything, if a little bit of care isn't taken. Make sure that all the o-rings are in good shape (not pinched or nicked or missing!) Make sure that the coil head is seated properly (i.e. not too loose; not too tight - snug is the operative word)

Same with attaching the base to the tank - some tanks have multiple pieces - just make sure everything is snug but not mooshed!

Very short dissertation from me - the mod is merely the power source. The topper, in conjunction with an appropriate power source, is what seems to be the (at least my) driving factor. Toppers can be tight draws or really open/airy draws. Depends on whether you want to sip on a coffee straw or drink from a fire hose (or somewhere in between!)

Look for a mod that offers a moderately wide operating range, as this will allow you to accommodate multiple toppers as you try out different gear. And have a backup, if possible.

Good Luck - lots of great folk willing to help as you ask questions. Keep in mind - what works for THEM (ME) might not be what works for YOU.....

All tanks can leak from time to time. This can happen when:
  • you lose an o-ring (when cleaning the tank),
  • the coil is not properly screwed into the base,
  • your e-liquid/juice is too thin.
If everything is setup correctly you won't have many (if any) problems with leaking no matter what flavor e-liquid you use.

When I used a Nautilus I mostly used 50Pg/50Vg juice (all different flavors including citrus).

The tank I'm currently using is glass but has some type of silicone inside it that is not compatible with the citrus juice and started leaking. I bought a new tank but I like the citrus!!!

Would I be right in saying it's from the brand you mentioned earlier?
If so (and it's the type I think) it's probably still going to leak, regardless of the liquid.
Most tanks using the base pin (510) as the airflow have a chance of leaking. Side-airflow tanks can still leak a bit, but less so and with much less consequence.

There is no way (that I can see) to replace the silicone material in this particular tank. It has a factory press-fit top on the tank. The silicone material is partially up inside this press-fit top (pic attached). It's just a darn mess!

I made a post about my dilemma in the solution forum here.

Yes, I'm referring to the Vaprfi Rocket Tank. The silicone/gasket/o-ring material came out of the "inside" of the tank after using citrus juice.

I couldn't agree with you more! I had my head turned by the VaporFi devices, before coming here and learning more about them.

For me, if I had tried to quit analogs while learning how to sub ohm, I'm not sure I'd still be vaping. There's a lot to learn when vaping, so I always recommend new vapers use something easy and satisfying, like the iStick and Nautilus Mini combo or another similar set up. There's plenty of time for making clouds, if someone wants to make clouds, after getting comfy with vaping.

Another device I've heard great things about for a new vaper is the Innokin Endura T22. It's very simple, and is designed to deliver a vaping experience very similar to smoking analogs, which is perfect for someone making the switch to vaping. It's cheap too -- under $35 including tank. I know this one is pretty widely available, so can probably be found at many of the retailers you recommended above.

Good luck Down-Time! Let us know if you have questions! There are always people around who want to help.

I have three Nautilus Mini tanks, and I love citrus juice. I've never had an issue with leaking.

I thought so.

It's a $16-$18 Kanger E-mow (Aerotank Mow) tank. They will tell you it's not, but sadly, it is.

Send it back, ask them to make good on their customer service. $35.... disgraceful.

I used Citrus in some early Kanger EVOD tanks and although they didn't melt, things did happen to them... Citrus can be a tank killer.

Hold on.... I've been vaping Citrus all week in a GS Tank.

Eleaf GS Tank

Pretty nice. Floods on refilling (strangely) but I'm coming to terms with it. Better vape than mini Nautilus.

How is the GS Air better than the Nautilus Mini? I've been thinking of trying one too. Strange that it floods when refilled. I've not heard of that before.

I think the flooding is something to do with a) the tank bracket; it pools around where you screw in the atomizer coil to meet the chimney and b) too much pressure from limited air in the tank when full.

The vape is excellent though. More flexible air flow, "dryer" vapor (if you can say that).
I have it on 3 of the 4 air holes and it MTLs beautifully.
