Hi everyone! Why does it always seem like you find the forums on what to get after you've already wasted money on products. :p I'm using the SafeCigs right now, but I'm interested in trying another product because their battery sucks. History: I just quit smoking 9 days ago and I have successfully substituted vaping for cigarettes to get my nicotine fix. I used to smoke medium American Spirits cigs, about 5-7 a day. I wasn't a heavy smoker and am looking for a light duty vaping device. I've been looking at the forum, but I'm really lost on what and where to buy because there are so many different atomizers, cartomizers, batteries, and juices available. HELP! From what I've read so far I'm thinking I should get an ego or a 510.

I normally recommend an E-Power or Kgo as a good beginner model. They are the size of a sharpie pen and will give you 5 - 6 hours on a charge, so better vapor and less hassle.

But since you are a light smoker, I would look at the Volt or the Bloog mini-battery models. From all the reviews here on ECF, they appear to be the best in that category. You can get your eliquid or prefilled carts with eliquid from many different suppliers. The Volt is an 808 threaded model so a supplier that has a good variety of liquids in the prefilled if you go that route is Vapor4Life. Most of us by blank cartomizers and fill our own eliquid because it saves a lot of money and tends to taste better. Here is a well supported supplier for the Volt:

And here is the Vapor4Life site:

Thanks for all the quick and friendly replies! The SafeCigs work for now, but I'm beginning to notice that the vapor levels can vary and battery charge is kinda sketchy. The convenience of just pulling out a new cartridge and screwing it in is really the only benefit. Plus if I don't use a cartridge in a week I have to throw it away, which seems kind of wasteful. Question: How do you know the juice that you are buying from suppliers isn't really some crazy non-nicotine concoction? Just asking because to me smoking some of those juices that look like they were made in somebody's kitchen seems a bit unsafe and not very controlled or lab tested. Also, how do you judge how long to vape your ECF? Granted with a cigarette you are done when it burns out, but the ECF keeps going and going and going. I think I might have made myself sick the other night by hitting it too much. Do you time your sessions or just hit it until you are satisfied, pardon my French. :D

If you plan on buying eliquid, buy from a vendor someone here recommends. You choose the amount of nicotine, so generally that's all on your end. As for vaping safely, you just have to pay attention to what you're doing with your pv. If your heart starts racing or you get a headache, slow down or get a lower nicotine juice. You'll quickly figure out what your sweet spot is. For instance, when I'm at work or out of the house I use exclusively 24 mg/ml juice, because I can't be vaping constantly. When I'm at home I use 18mg so I can just hold my pv in my hand while working/relaxing. At night, I switch down to 12 mg so I don't keep myself awake all night.

When the "hit" starts to get inconsistent and light (assuming you have a fully or near fully charged battery) you need to add more eliquid. Your cart or cartomizer (these are two different eliquid holding mechanisums) should be moist but not dripping.

Most of us use manual batteries (small button) because you get a better hit and more control that with auto batteries like you have. I would consider getting a model with manual batteries.

If you use a supplier from ECF, you can be sure they are sending you what they stated they are sending you. If they didn't, it would be all over ECF and no supplier wants that type of press.

Although I recommended the Volt, and still believe you should really consider it as one of the best of the mini battery types, the E-Power or Kgo, to me, are even more "noob proof" because they provide more consistent performance for a longer time frame on a charge which takes away one of the reasons for light/inconsistent vapor, which is the battery getting weak.

Here are several well supported suppliers:

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - EGO E-Power

KGO 1100 mAh 2 battery kit

e-Power

With these models you also have much more variety in cartomizers, including 808, 510's, 901, etc. Cartomizers come in different sizes that allow you to put 3 - 5 ml of eliquid in them which means you can go much longer without needing to worry about adding more eliquid. Again, it makes it simpler to vape.

Good Luck

Welcome to ECF. So happy to hear you're off of analogs! I have little knowledge in the little 510s and stuff, so I can't help you much there. Drink lots of water, up your MG or your voltage (including your device if need be) if you are still having cravings, and sink yourself into communities for vaping (I suggest TVN at Stickam) to help encourage you to stick with vaping.

Happy vaping!

Welcome to ECF justchar! I also started out with safecigs in December. I'm still using them but I'm to the point now where I'm ready to try something else. I was so aggravated when I realized I couldn't remove the end of the cartomizers. Then I realized I could order them separately. I spazzed out when I saw the price of the batteries then I realized I could buy them from different vendors at half the price and with more power. That's what has kept me using them (or I should say using an rn4081 battery) ..plus the convenience. So easy to fill a cartomizer and pop it on. I have 7 batteries of various kinds so that's not a problem.

I just ordered more batteries since this will probably be my backup...but now I'm seriously considering a Riva or a Provari. I'm in no huge rush though.

Considering that you were a light smoker, you would probably be fine with a KR808 or a Volt. Battery size is a good indicator of capacity ... the larger the longer they last between charges. If you get the 78mm Volt battery, you will get about 4 hours of charge life. A spare batt will probably get you through a work day.

OTOH, an eGo class battery at 650mah will give you 5-6 hours of vaping. It's only a little larger than a KR808 and offers more options in atomizers and cartomizers. Whatever you buy, fill the cartos this way and you can juice up a few spares cheaply. A box of 5 empty cartos will cost you 8 dollars and one carto will last you through 5-6 days of refilling if you use the same one daily, longer if you fill several and rotate through the day.
