Hey everyone. I just wanted to have my first thread here be an enthusiastic hello. This forum is so loaded with great information and excellent people!

I was smoking a half pack of analogs per day until a co-worker (Dtrue488) showed me her Kanger setup about a month ago. I took a few drags and was instantly hooked. That night I went out and bought my own EVOD battery and clearo, along with some German Chocolate Cake eliquid that at the time I thought was amazing. A month later, after my taste buds have returned, that original juice tastes nasty, but I haven't had ONE analog.

I love vaping so much and I've been bitten by the bug for sure. I now have two EVOD 650 batteries, an EVOD 650 VV, an Innokin iTaste VV V3, two mini Protanks, six EVOD clearos, and a shelf full of juice.

I decided I needed a better way to organize my stuff, as well as keep the tanks upright. So I drew up this "Vape Caddy" in Autodesk Inventor, and printed it out on one of our 3D printers at work. I thought I'd show off my efforts.

It's made out of ABS plastic. I drew the solid model in Inventor, and sent the file to a 3D printer. Which basically lays down layers of molten plastic about .005" thick. The machine adds layer upon layer until the entire part is complete. This was done on one of our older machines, so it took four hours to print, and as you can see the surface is not perfect. One of the newer printers could do it in half the time and make it look much nicer. 3D printing is the future of manufacturing. It's such cool technology!

I'm using Dropbox so the file is already hosted, but the image size is too large. I'll just leave it as a link for now and upload a smaller file tomorrow. This is a real PITA using my phone!

What's the little dookickie symbols you printed on the outside of each hole? I can't make it out. Looks very cool in a 1940's retro ash tray kinda way.

Your drop box link would work fine. BUT: You said you were using the phone interface? Not all options are available on ECF mobile and putting in images may be one of them. You would hover over the "Insert Image" icon when you compose a message - that's the one you want to insert a link to a hosted photo. (In the normal ECF interface it's the third icon from the right above your text typing box.) When you select that, it gives you the option for inserting linked images. Just make sure that "host locally" box is unchecked to prevent a size limitation issue.

Welcome! :)

About how much does it cost you to print something like that? (not the printer, but the finished ABS product) - Also, how sturdy is it?

A buddy of mine was looking to buy a printer in the next few months and was thinking about trying to print a few mods from it, but he's not yet committed to doing it just yet and I didn't really look at the costs of doing it.

that turned out pretty nice man i like it a buddy of mine is a member of our local hackspace its like a club for techy people they have a darehouse with a metal shop and a pc lab and a classroom they do computer classes in here and there for the public and they have 3 3d printers the older one they use gives that kinda rough finish too but we figured out one night if you take a paper towel and some acetone and get acetone on the paper towel and rub the surface lightly it slightly melts the abs plastic and gives it a smoother finish almost to a mold quality if you would like to try that

at this point with 3 printers they are printing 3d printer parts for more builds lol

I'm not sure how to post pictures in this forum, but here's the Dropbox link...

That is really awesome, looks nice, but you are going to need to adjust the design and print out another when you get your first Box mod!

Ok I'm in. What's your paypal address and what are the shipping times.
haha. that's awesome.

Well unfortunately I don't have my own personal printer, so this is going to be a "one-off". Trust me, I wish I could make a custom one for every person on here that wanted one!

Those are numbers, zero through nine. I was thinking that that may come in handy for keeping track of flavors, but with the resolution of the old printer they didn't come out so well. :(

I may have to try that!

I know, right?! I can see myself investing in more goodies like a higher end mod in the not too distant future, but I think my next endeavor will be rebuilding those Kanger coils. I needed a new hobby, and this is a relatively inexpensive one compared to others I've had in the past.

It is solid plastic. I could have made it hollow to save on materials, but I wanted it to be heavy so it would be stable. Because of that, the calculated material cost was a frightening $85 (of the company's money)! A hollow version would cost more like $30 in material. There are also cheaper plastics than what we use.
Regarding sturdiness - you could park a pickup truck on this thing!

That's a lot of money, but one must consider what it would cost to machine that out of aluminum or something. It would require sawing, turning on a lathe, and drilling the tank holes on an angle. The cost of machine time and materials would probably be four times that or more.
