Hi everyone! My name is Nicole. I am 31 and am very new to the vaping world. I got my feet wet with the krave disposables and worked my way up to the ego-t kit. I have not had an actual smoke in almost 2 months...so happy about that! I haven't actually saved any money yet (since I am still shopping around for juices, etc.) but once I find something I am satisfied with I expect to save tons compared to what I spent on analogs. I have read as much as I could about cleaning the clearos but I was wondering if it is ok to soak the stronger smelling ones in vinegar? I always have vinegar on hand, since I clean with it, and I don't really want to go out and buy everclear if vinegar works just as good? It is nice to meet everyone and I am looking forward to learning. :)

Welcome and congratulations on your progress!
I honestly wouldn't recommend using vinegar. I did that once and I got a funky taste that lasted awhile. I guess that's totally up to you to experiment with, though:)
I think Everclear is too much work to go and get haha.
As far as other options, hot water works just fine:) All you need to do is fill and shake a few times. After though, it's really important to dab your wicks with a Q-tip or a paper towel. Get them some-what dry. You need to clean everything, the base, tank, wicks, tip..everything. Then just let it air-dry. Make sure you dry-burn it every once in awhile, too. It gets rid of all the gunk that may build up.
I also recommend soaking them in Vodka, if you have access to it.

Welcome to ECF, always great hearing about the success of others. I've done all kinds of cleaning, tinkering, and reengineering, but I've never thought to clean carto's with vinegar...I would imagine it wouldn't end well, as it has a very distinct scent (like nasty feet) that I would worry about sticking around. I've had great success with hot water and a childrens medicine syringe, the kind with the white rubber conical attachment, that you find at Walmart and Walgreens. The white rubber part fits a carto perfectly, and allows for some very easy carto flushing. I usually follow this with either blowing the water out, or connecting them to a piece of string and giving them a good spin dry.

Hope some of that helps, if you do go ahead with the vinegar be sure to let us know how it went.

Edit:

Just reread your post, I was detailing the cleaning of a carto...just a warm water rince for a clearo does just fine, and if you can get to the wicks, then a little drying with a paper towel after goes a long way.

I'm in Wisconsin too--still smoking about 5 smellsticks a day. For some reason I haven't been able to drop them completely even tho I've been vaping daily since October.

I use Graves grain alcohol--same thing as Everclear but a few bucks a fifth cheaper--for most cleaning, except for my empty liquid bottles, which are fine with a good soap and water wash. The Graves air-dries pretty quickly unless it's one of my clearos, which I just leave overnight and dry-burn a couple of times to clear before putting eLiquid in them.

Welcome to the madhouse of vaping,
Deb

Welcome! This forum is full of great folks. Just wanted to say that I am not from Wisconsin but I love the packers. They are my favorite team next to my super bowl champ Baltimore Ravens:D

This is a great thread too I am new as well and had some of these same questions about cleaning. Thanks to all and happy vaping :)
